CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Charleston has a vandal on its hands.

However, it's all fun and games when it comes to this type of graffiti.

The mysterious knitter leaves scarves, hats and other knitted things at popular places around the city.

Sarah Raydow of the Kanawha City Yard Company said, "I was putting away some yarn that I had gotten in that day, and finished. I gathered up my knitting bag and coat. I walked over and opened the door and there it was."

It all started at the Kanawha City Yarn Company.

From the yarn company to a dog park, even a statue off Kanawha Boulevard.

"Minnipurl," the self-proclaimed knitting graffiti artist, has hit a number of places, trying to spread some anonymous warmth during a cold winter, but its all in good fun. And it's got those who've been hit winking and wondering who this wicked spindler might be.

So who is this anonymous knitter?
Why it's Minnipurl of course.

You didn't think I was going to really spill the beans did you?

Minnipurl asked us to keep her or him anonymous for the fun spirit of the knitting graffiti. But Minni told us some folks are doing the same type of thing in other cities across the country.

This a great story I told my two kids about and they thought that whoever is doing this must be pretty cool. I think they are wonderful for trying to make people smile and not take everything so serious. If everybody would do something like this we would all be better off. Knit on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it is a great thing that this person is doing, taking their time and money to help others. To BDK, that was uncalled for! Grow up! And to "THE MYSTERIOUS KNITTER" KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

In the days of drive by shootings, drug arrest, crime on each street corner, it brought a smile to my face to think that someone still likes to do something good! Keep knitting and I challenge others to do random acts of kindess also!

That is a wonderful idea. They said that they do this in several other cities as well... is there a website about it?

I THINK THIS A GOOD THING. SHE SHOULD DONATE HER KNITTINGS TO THE HOMELESS OR SELL THEM AS A FUND RAISER TO HELP OUT A CHARITY OF HER CHOICE.

I dont think she has any right to be littering with her knitting, if so I am going to start throwing my trash at various city landmarks. Thank You

Wow this is nice. She should shower her knitted stuff around the homeless shelters.

I agree with "me"! This kind of "graffiti" is indeed AWESOME! "minni"...keep up the creative work! You're not only leaving behind beautiful works of art rather than ugly scribblings like most graffiti "artists", you're making us smile! GOOD for you! Whoever you are, God bless you! The world AND this State/area can use more smiles and beauty! THANK YOU! And Chris...thank you for not revealing Minni's true identity if he/she doesn't want it revealed! Somehow the mystery behind the "knit & runs" makes it even more beautiful! It's like the mystery of who leaves a rose on Edgar Allan Poe's grave every year...it would take all the fun & mystique out of it if we knew who "minni" really is, but whoever she/he is...bless you for making me smile this morning & a lot of others! We all need a LOT more creative, talented & beautiful souls in this world & this area & you are one of them MINNI! Now, could you teach ME to knit? lol
