ASHLAND, Ky. (WSAZ) -- A mother says the straws she bought for her three-year-old daughter were shaped like a male sex organ.

What is your take on the straws?
Toy, Rocket, or other child-friendly shape
Male sex organ

Andrea Bailey says she went shopping at the Ashland Wal-Mart on Thursday, February 28th, and bought a package of fun straws for her three 3-year-old daughter, Ashlynn.

Bailey says Ashlynn came in and used one shaped like a heart. A couple others in the package, though, were shaped like something different.

“There are two of them that are shaped like the male private area,” said Bailey. “I called Wal-Mart and they very rude with me about it. They acted like I was lying, like I was making it all up. You know, I would never make something up like that, especially about my little girl. But, that's just how they treated me and it’s just not right.”

A communications representative at Wal-Mart corporate headquarters e-mailed us a response.

"At Wal-Mart we take customer questions and concerns seriously,” said the spokesperson in a statement. “After being contacted on this matter, Wal-Mart pulled the product in question from our shelves and is investigating the claim. Of course, our customer is welcome to return the item for a refund, if they would like."

Wal-Mart informed us the straws came from a manufacturer called Eagle Marks Corporation. We could not obtain contact information for the company from our own search or Wal-Mart officials.

Andrea Bailey says her concern is not the $1.69 she paid for the straws, but what might happen to other families with kids a little older than Ashlynn.

We searched at three other Wal-Mart stories in three different states last week, and found no fun straws on any shelves.

A Wal-Mart corporate communications spokesperson told us the regional stores were aware of the flap, and Wal-Mart was reviewing the product.

Ok here it is folks, at todays price of $1.69 throw the 2 straws away that offend you and let your child enjoy the rest, and then call wal-mart in an adult like tone of voice and let them be aware that a product that they sell, not produce (see the difference they can't see what is in the box, they buy and resell the closed boxed item). then contact the manufacture in again, an adult like tone of voice not a ranting and screaming idiot, and voice your concerns. Just think now instead of just your child being expossed to this possable offensive item. You now have exposed it to people all over the net and there children looking over there parents shoulders. that can equal approx. 14 million children way to go.............. here is your sign

I give my ups to mrs. bailey. it takes alot to stand up to a company as big as walmart. if my children had seen such things i would be very angry. we as mother need to stand together and watch out for one another. to keep this dangerous world some what safe for our children.

I think that she is overreacting. She should check they things that she buys for her daughter. Also it doesnt look like a penis, it looks more like a rocket. Did she get her 15 minutes of fame? Perversion is disgusting...

FLeeBaily, the McDonald's lady got 2nd and 3rd degree burns from the coffee. She had no idea it was heated to the unreasonable temperature of 160 degrees. No one would have guessed that. These companies have liability insurance for that very purpose. In dealing with such vast amounts of people you can guess that some will be injured in some way. Just like Ford chose to continue producing the Pinto when they calculated that more money would be spent making the corrections than they would spend in paying lawsuit settlements to those they killed and injured. Corporate America is all about the big bucks, not the other way around. People only bring up the McDonald's coffee story because they heard about it vaguely and didn't look into the details. You can win in a lawsuit unless you have some sort of evidence of wrongdoing. Duty, breach, causation, damages are the formula for a personal injury claim. You must meet them all. The straw meets none of these.

People love sex and sex sells. For example, you're reading this.

Posted by: Sue on Mar 24, 2008 at 03:41 AM
As James pointed out, this has made some national news. Still anyone who reads the Huffington Post is suspect for reading intellectual dribble. Right up there with the New York Times and NewsMax. But I digress... Alot of the hits are not coming from people in this region but from all across the country which is why this story has not died a well deserved and timely death. Other news sources didn't pick it up until well after everyone around here got sick of it. Let's hope it dies soon.

hey Yvette, lighten up, I know where I'm at. this has been the best story of stories yet, at least it's not about a crime that we all don't like hearing or reading about. I'm surprised it's went this long.

Straws. For crying out loud! ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!!!!

Posted by: Denise on Mar 22, 2008 at 10:40 PM
If you don't believe what this woman is saying go take a look at the straws on Bacholorette.com they look exactly like the ones as the naughty ones being sold for parties. The fun straws were definitely sent to the wrong location.

Posted by: Not over it yet? on Mar 22, 2008 at 08:04 PM
WSAZ and this woman need to get over this please.

Posted by: Yvette on Mar 22, 2008 at 10:14 AM
Ok, enough of this, there are 2 elderly, sick people missing, they have been missing for over a week now, they should be on the news, not some stupid straws that some woman is tying to make something out of nothing!!!

Posted by: Sherri on Mar 22, 2008 at 09:19 AM
HELLO, DID ANYONE NOTICE THAT JAMES REFERRED TO THE BIBLE AS A 4000 YEAR OLD FAIRY TALE. FORGET THE STRAW, THIS IS A LOT MORE SERIOUS!!!!

Posted by: FLeeBaily on Mar 22, 2008 at 08:39 AM
To Andrea: No, Wal Mart didn't agree with you at all! The reason they decided to pull the straws from the shelves was simply because they are already littered with frivileous law suits from people just like you trying to score a few easy bucks. People can collect on the most rediculous grounds. Just ask the lady from the MacDonals law suit that became a millionaire because she spilled a hot cup of their coffe on her lap! That's why you see the "caution" logo on so many products today. My blow dryer has a caution tag that says "do not use in shower"!!! These companies figure that some moron out there may try and use it in the shower or else someone already has. Andrea, you may not be looking to score a few bucks, but Wal Mart is being cautious because they know it's a possibility. My wife is a Wal Mart employee, and says that it's unbelievable what some people come up with when they see $ signs along with opportunity.

I think this is absolutely hilarious, and yes, it does look like you-know-what! I love it, I want to buy some.

Posted by: Mary on Mar 22, 2008 at 01:05 AM
You know, I find this no longer amusing. Even if the straws are inappropriate. from the bits and pieces I've read, this lady is the one who made her daughter aware that there was a problem with them. She should have just taken the bad straws out of the package and gotten rid of them. Bring them back to the Walmart she bought them at, show them the straws and complain, demand that they pull the rest from the shelves, contact the company who makes them,----ANYTHING but don't bring the actual details to the attention of your three or four year-old!

After hearing about this on the news for the last 3 days, I had to check it out. Sad is a good word for this story, which is still in the news. Simple like anything else you are going to buy, check it out first.

Posted by: gabbyanne on Mar 21, 2008 at 06:23 PM
seriously. out of all the news in the world, we worry about straws. questionable shape of straws. get serious. and find something that could be of more importance than a straw.

Posted by: James on Mar 21, 2008 at 03:38 PM
You folks made the huffingtonpost. Well Done! Please fondle a straw while you polish your guns and watch American Idol. Then read your 4000 year old fairy tales(bible) and call it a night. And one last thing. Please keep the straw out of view as people get their heads blown off in the DVD you just rented.

Posted by: Stacey on Mar 21, 2008 at 03:24 PM
you have to wonder where your mind was to think such a thing...they are silly kids straws..please lets talk about something more important...

Posted by: Casey on Mar 21, 2008 at 09:44 AM
I think Ms. Bailey is making something out of nothing. I didn't see anything perverted with the straws until I looked for it, and I still think it is a reach. There are more important things to worry about with our children, than the shape of a silly straw.

Only give your daughter one of these straws if you want her to turn out to be the next Monica. Apparently from some of the comments below some of these Clinton supporters would be all for it.

Posted by: don on Mar 21, 2008 at 06:22 AM
well, i think it is now time to remove bananas, cukes, pickles and yes even mellons from our grocrey shelves. of course all this so some frustrated mother isnt reminded of the male organ. it may be time also to chisle away at the statue of david as well before she has a heart attack.

Posted by: Albert on Mar 21, 2008 at 06:16 AM
This is so lame. Please don't let Andrea shop at our produce department. Whats next bananas/cucumbers/zucchinis.Its not just walmart that sells straws try $store cvs all under diff, name brands shoprite savalot the list go's on and on.She need's to get a life.

Posted by: Red on Mar 21, 2008 at 01:29 AM
Believe what you see folks. A rocket ship? It doesn't look anything like one to me I guess in the top picture, but not the one down below that one. I believe it to be inappropriate. I applaud the mother for coming to wsaz with this public concern. Kindly leave the lady alone and don't post.

Posted by: Mary on Mar 20, 2008 at 11:37 PM
looking at the two straws, I would never have thought they looked like male sex organs. The purple one looks like a bell to me but since it's been brought to our attention, the green one IS questionable. That one surely does NOT look like a rocket! I can see how this whole story can bring a few chuckles.

Posted by: Lacey on Mar 20, 2008 at 11:30 PM
If she is so offended by the straws, why is she showing the straws to the reporter in front of her daughter?

Posted by: Wendy on Mar 20, 2008 at 11:29 PM

PERSONALLY, EVEN AFTER READING THE HEADLINE, MY (ALMOST)10 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND I BOTH SAW A BELL, NOT A ROCKET OR MALE SEX ORGAN. MY (ALMOST)17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER SAW A FISH (SHE DID NOT READ THE HEADLINE) BUY THE PLAIN OLD FLEXABLE DISPOSABLE STRAWS, THEY ARE SAFER(NOT HARD PLASTIC TO HURT A NOSE OR EYE. I HAVE 4 KIDS FROM THE AGE OF 25 1/2 YEARS TO ALMOST 10 YEARS AND A 2 1/2 YEAR OLD GRANDDAUGHTER. WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL OF THESE STUPID CRAZY STRAWS IN OUR HOUSE OVER THE PAST 1/4 CENTURY. AT FIRST I TRIED TO CLEAN THEM, AND SOON REALIZED THAT THEY ARE AS EASY TO KEEP CLEAN AS THE DRAINS IN YOUR HOUSE. WE NOW HAVE A SINGLE USE POLICY FOR THEM IN OUR HOUSE. ( I DO NOT BUY THEM, BUT THEY TEND TO COME IN CERTAIN DRINKS FROM DIFFERENT PLACES) THEY ARE UNSANITARY AND DISPOSABLE. WHY SOMEONE WOULD PAY $1.68 (OR WHATEVER) FOR 2 STRAWS WHEN YOU CAN BUY 100 FOR $1.00 IS BEYOND ME.

Posted by: Kaycee on Mar 20, 2008 at 10:36 PM
Does anyone remember the "Everybody Loves Raymond" episode where Marie made an abstract sculpture in art class that was a bit too "ladylike?" As Debra said when Ray pointed it out to her, "Well, NOW I see it!" Phallic straws? Um, yeah, NOW I see it..."

Posted by: Jessica on Mar 20, 2008 at 10:32 PM
Andrea made this comment below: "No I didnt inspect the package I shouldnt have to." We shouldn't have to inspect our kids candy from trick or treating at Halloween either, but in this day in age we DO!

Posted by: Jessica on Mar 20, 2008 at 10:23 PM
I'm reading a lot of comments on how "stupid" this story is and I have to disagree. This is just a story suggested by a concerned parent and her argument is extremely valid. The straws do look like male sex organs very much and could easily be construed that way by slightly older children. They shouldn't have included that shape if it was borderline offensive. It's not even appealing enough to be worth it. They could have picked any other shape instead.

Posted by: Julie on Mar 20, 2008 at 10:22 PM
Bellboy, you are incorrect, the spelling and GRAMMAR of these posts are TRULY priceless hahahah

Posted by: Dee on Mar 20, 2008 at 10:04 PM
I bought the straws too for my daughters. When she opened the package I was in shock !! Yes it does look like a male organ! Everyone thinks the same thing. They think it looks like fruit, but anyone over the age of 8 knows what it looks like .....

Posted by: Mark on Mar 20, 2008 at 10:00 PM
First, this woman needs to get a life. Second, how can you as a TV station actually consider this news enough to do a story on it? Maybe someone will see a dirty word in their alphabet soup tomorrow! People wouldn't get away with being so stupid if journalists like you weren't so dumb as to give them the time of day.

It looks like a fish. And even if it didn't, Andrea Bailey, what exactly are you afraid "might happen to other families with kids a little older than Ashlynn?"

Posted by: Sherri on Mar 20, 2008 at 08:30 PM
These don't look like the male sex organ of any creature I have ever seen--and I'm a biologist. They don't look even vaguely vulgar to me. They remind me more of a bell of a bottle opener--or perhaps a fish as drawn by a young child.

LISTEN UP PEOPLE, (those of you who are behind this distraugt mother), focus your attention to what your kids are exposed to on television and some of the music listened to. Even your wholesome WTCR country music has innuendos of illicit sex, violence and drunken stupors. But who is making ANY attempt to clean this up?

I just want to say I havent even been back on this website for at least 4 or 5 days. I cannot believe people are still talking about it. I havent talked to Wal-Mart or Randy Yohe anymore. For those of you saying my daughter wouldnt even know if it wasnt for me? You actually think she will remember what I said? I was just very upset I cant buy a pack of fun straws at a "family store" without something that looks vulgar being shoved in her face. No I didnt inspect the package I shouldnt have to.But as soon as I seen it I took it away because I dont want my baby exposed to things like that at 3!!Even though she has no idea that its anything but a straw. Then when I called Wal-Mart to tell them they need pulled off the shelves I was treated very rudely about it.When it was really for their own good.Because unlike a lot of people Im not out for money, only what I think is best for MY DAUGHTER.If I wanted money why would I call the news instead of a lawyer?I just want to be a good mother.

This story is a little to much if you ask me.At 3 yrs old i'm sure that kid really thinks that the straw looks like the male sex organ. The best of this story is though, that Wal Mart at first told her they didn't have time for this. But when WSAZ came to talk to them it was a whole different story and said they take this kind of stuff serious.Wal Mart who you kidding.Only time you take stuff serious is when your on the new's and to get your name out there more than what it needs to be.Only thing Wal Mart cares about is there money and not the worker's or people that shop there,I know this cause I used to work at one.I was there only a month but that is all it took for me to figure out what they are all about.Good Ol Sam Walton the richest dead guy going in the USA.

I have to agree with those of you who support Ms. Bailey. If more people were concerned with what their children were being exposed to, maybe we wouldn't be wondering why the newest generation is so wrought with problems. We assume that "if it's on TV, it's ok", "if they learn it in school, it's ok" and i guess "if it's labeled fun straws at Wal-Mart, it's ok". If this was an innocent design "look-a-like", then maybe we are over-reacting. However, as parents, it is our right and our obligation to at least be concerned. It is a real shame that so many hateful things are said over something like this; another sign of the degradation of the times.

This woman saw a straw shaped like a male organ in her mind. Her child would have thought nothing ,unless she brought the subject up and told it. Teens see and think different than most young children, they would crack jokes and laugh about this! So teach your teen not to talk about it in front of people,if they think the same as she does! I'm sure if you look at everything around you will find all kind of shapes like this! So, why make an issue out of it! My first thought upon looking at this straw was a just a shape,2nd thought a hat! I hope this woman don't get upset if her child gets to do finger painting in art class at school. Who knows what she will think if she looks at the painting to long enough!

If you don't like the straws, return them. But don't inflict your obsession with genitalia on the rest of the world. Anyway, how would a little girl know what that straw looks like IF HER MOTHER HADN'T TOLD HER? I can just see her out with that kid: "Ashlynn, don't look at that cloud, it looks like ...", "Ashlynn, don't look at that cucumber, it looks like ..." etc. Way to raise a hypersexualized kid, lady. You'll never explain it to people like that, though. I'm reminded of a joke about a man taking a psychological inkblot test. In every inkblot, he saw something graphically sexual. The psychologist finally said "Sir, you seem to have an obsession with sex." The man replied "Me? You're the one showing me all the dirty pictures!"

Poor America, They love war, guns and violence but Oh my god... making love, it's so dirty. Naked people are being censored from their screens but dead Iraqis are a joy to watch. I grew up loving America, but since George W has been elected President, I'm disgusted. Glad to be living in Europe!

I'll bet the kid wouldn't know what it looked like if mommy dearest hadn't thrown such a fit. Half the kids already know what one looks like, the other half will. Big deal. For the McDonald's coffee post, if you're huge, put a cup of coffee in between your legs and try to drive with the lid off, you will get burned. If you need to be warned about that, you scare me.:)

Do people really have nothing better to do that complain about the shape of a straw? There are hungry homeless children out there. Worry about them and stop complaining about trivial things like straws. Any anyways, it actually just looks like a bell or a rocket to me.

Posted by: Jennifer on Mar 17, 2008 at 03:17 PM
I don't know if my comment will get posted on here or not b/c WSAZ seems to not like what I say! But I just felt the need to say it anyways...I am SO SICK of hearing about a stupid straw. To this mother, Andrea Bailey...you are crazy! I can't believe what a commotion that you have caused regarding A STRAW! Eventually your child is going to learn the body parts of a human - A HUMAN IS WHAT WE ALL ARE and so what if she knows the body parts of a HUMAN. But I hope you're happy b/c obvioulsy you need money and what a better victim than Walmart. This straw doesn't look like a male organ at all and it looks more like the Arby's sign...what's next? Are you going to call Arby's and try to get money from them too?

Posted by: R.D.Davis on Mar 17, 2008 at 03:04 PM
enough about the straws,I read a quote from Charles Manson that I totally believe. “You know, a long time ago being crazy meant something. Nowadays everybody's crazy.”

Posted by: a loving mother on Mar 17, 2008 at 02:54 PM
It does look like something vulgar. Though, Very young children wouldn't know what shape it is. The bells, pears, and rocketships I've seen don't look like this and I certainly don't think they were trying to make the shape of an Arby's hat. I wouldn't let my children have them. I can't believe that every one is attacking this woman because she wants to make sure that these innappropriate straws. China must have mixed the bachelorette party straws up with the children's straws.

Posted by: BRian on Mar 17, 2008 at 11:54 AM
If Wal-Mart didn't have billions upon billions of dollars this would have never been an issue. The mother wants money. Now she needs to complain to and sue God because he made a bunch of different vegetables and fruits look like genitalia.

Posted by: Mature person on Mar 17, 2008 at 11:45 AM
The key to this imaginary problem is the following quote, "I can't think of anything else." I've sent this around and asked for opinions. It seems that those who are most like this and object to imaginary things such as this are those who are obsessed with sex in one form or another. Either this woman has this problem or she needs the attention. I wonder whether she has ever gone to a fabric store and seen one of those things which is used to darn socks, etc. I'm 69 y/o and, when I looked at the "offensive" straws, the only thing which came to my mind was the Arby's sombrero. This woman has her own little problem(s) and shouldn't interfere with those of us in the real world.

Posted by: Jessie on Mar 17, 2008 at 08:52 AM
I did what another person on here suggested and went to http://www.bachelorette.com/ and they ARE selling straws there called Penis straws, and they are the exact same shape. SO someone out there does manufacture these things and intended them to look like a penis. How they ended up in a child's crazy straw package is anyone's guess. But yes, these things are being manufactured as penis straws and were intended to look like like one.

I think this is all kind of silly--she should get her money back b/c she wasn't satisfied with the item. It does resemble the male private area and the woman who said to check out bachelorette.com does sale almost the exact same straws. I just think that this whole straw thing has went a little to overboard.

Posted by: Samantha on Mar 15, 2008 at 11:57 PM
Leave this woman alone! She is correct. If it were a rocket they would not be sold for bachelorette parties! If I had bought these for my kids, I would have done the same thing. Ms. Bailey, forget what these people on here say. You did what you felt was right and that is all that matters. Take up for your kids and forget everyone else.

Lisa, many complain about the lady who sued McDonald's over coffee. If you look into the case a little you would realize she received 2nd and 3rd degree burns. The coffee was heated to 160 degrees to keep it hot for longer. They didn't have a warning about such a high temp. No reasonable person would assume that the coffee was THAT hot. I mean, 160 degrees...come on folks. Mickey D's has the money to spare.

Posted by: Stephanie on Mar 15, 2008 at 03:09 PM
Here is my take on it. I do not see male private parts. I see a rocket ship, but if I did see male private parts, I would not call the store. I would get in my care and return the items for a full refund. Wal-Mart pulled the straws. Story over. I believe this woman only wanted her name in the news.

Posted by: Guy on Mar 15, 2008 at 02:48 PM
That's funny. But, that is the news and isn't there OTHER more important things than penile drinking straws. Wal-Mart customer service is always rude until of course media shows up.

Posted by: denise on Mar 15, 2008 at 11:25 AM
If these straws were in a holiday package, you would believe they were bells. I would never have thought of them looking like a body part unless someone pointed that out. This is a big fuss over nothing.

Posted by: foggy on Mar 15, 2008 at 07:23 AM
It isn't offensive, but it is inappropriate. If this is to be included the packaging should have indicated it was an "adult item" in some plain manner. As for customer service's reaction, I would want to know how the customer presented herself before passing judgment. If she were polite and just pointing out a problem they responded poorly. But if she were yelling and screaming, while not a good response, their reaction is understandable. Bottom line is this. If Wal-Mart did pull all this product from their shelves you can be very sure the manufacturer won't do THAT again

Posted by: mom of 2 on Mar 14, 2008 at 03:29 PM
Don't you think this is enough about the "straws"? There has to be something more news worthy to talk abut!!!!!!

Posted by: MONICA LEEDY on Mar 14, 2008 at 12:05 AM
I'M SURE THE MAKER OF THESE STRAWS HAD DOZENS OF SHAPE DESIGNS AND THERE IS NO QUESTION THAT THESE WERE PACKAGED FOR KIDS. SO WHY WOULD THEY PUT A SHAPE IN THERE THAT WOULD EVEN SLIGHTLY RESEMBLE A BODY PART OR ANYTHING BAD FOR THAT MATTER ,BUT I AGREE IT DOES LOOK LIKE A PENIS AND IF YOU DON'T THINK SO PERHAPS YOU NEED SEX ED ! MAYBE IF OTHER PARENTS WERE AS CONCERNED ABOUT THERE KIDS AS SHE IS THIS WORLD WOULD BE A BETTER PLACE TO LIVE !!HOW COULD THIS SLIP BY THE MANUFACTURER ? PLEASE , NO ONE COULD BE THAT NIEVE TO BELIEVE AS MUCH MARKETING AND RESEARCH THAT THEY DO THAT THEY WOULDN'T HAVE CAUGHT THIS ! FURTHER MORE IT IS OUR RESPONSIBILTY TO LOOK OUT FOR OUR KIDS AND THIS RIGHT HERE IS THE REASON WHY, YOU CANT EVEN BUY YOUR KIDS A PACK OF STRAWS AND EXPECT IT TO BE SAFE !!! TO EVERYONE TALKING TRASH ABOUT THIS MOM MAYBE YOU SHOULD ASK HER FOR SOME ADVICE ON HOW YO BE A BETTER PARENT !!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Hank on Mar 13, 2008 at 11:33 PM
All this fuss over straws, yet has anyone ventured over to Walmart's produce dept? They have cucumbers right out in the open for the world to see and nobody bats an eye. For shame people.....for shame.

Posted by: Bev on Mar 13, 2008 at 10:33 PM
Whether you see a toy or a penis she is entitled to her money back. Customer satisfaction should always come first.

Posted by: Linda on Mar 13, 2008 at 10:09 PM

Posted by: Raven on Mar 13, 2008 at 09:54 PM
To all of you here who are making comments about this lady you need to go to Bachelorette.com She had every right to be upset. Who makes these "male organ" shaped straws for adult stores then goes and puts them in a pack of crazy straws meant for children? At least she is taking resonsibility for her childs well being, which is more then most of you can say!

Posted by: Hilarious on Mar 13, 2008 at 09:45 PM
I can understand the concern the mother may have. I personally don't see what she saw. However, I do think the Walmart customer service department should have been rude to her. But,then again they probably get prank calls all the time.. Again, I don't see the resemblance.. If another site is selling them because they are suppose to look like a sex organ then they need to have a better model to use next time when they make the replica...

I see, smell, and hear jealousy. That's what makes me laugh And come on an Arby's hat ha ha ha a rocket ship ha ha ha a Bell ha ha ha very funny here i am going to make up a shape hmmm it looks like a triangle. Just plain and simple a male organ and that's the bottom line. People go back to school and learn your shapes in health class. My doctor says it is the shape of a male organ can't dissagree with a doctor. And she has repeatedly said "SHE IS NOT SUING WAL-MART" so stop saying law suit.

I really dont blame her for the concern and I definately believe what u she is saying about the Wal-Mart workers bein rude, because I know that first hand. To all you posters basher her for standing up for what she believes in... I guess you have no problem with Bill Clinton, or Spitzer having extramarital affairs either. What is wrong, is wrong. I admire someone who actually stands up for what they believe in. Too many people get offended by someone exercising their free speech. Why bash her? Because it is not what you would do? So what. It matters to her what her kids are exposed to. I am glad she did it. I don't want my kids exposed to the same straws that you can buy from a sex site either. I don't let my kids dress a certain way, either because I believe in modesty. Maybe if more parents were concerned about these issues, some of the other issues wouldn't be an issue. WE need not let our kids grow to be immune to this stuff. We need to teach them certain things are wrong. WE need to be the parents. Grow up, bashers. When was the last time you defended your kid's honor for something that was wrong?

Maybe the same company that makes the bachelorette party straws make these and goofed.Probably not Walmart's fault, they may have not known.Although a point I think she was trying to make was poor customer service, which seems to be the norm. I have been treated rudely by Wal-Mart employees.I would be written up for acting that way at my job.I think its kind of silly this made the news, but sometimes these big superchains need a kick in the ego. They seem to think that since they are the dominant business we have no place else to go and can have poor service.

With all due respect, I feel Mrs. Baily was over-reacting to the straws but I do feel her sentiment about rudeness from store clerks. Walmart isn't the only one, there are lots of others and I'm never rude to a store clerk unless they are rude to me.

I agree with several people that say that it is like art everyone sees something different. When my kids get these kinds of straws they don't look at them and see what shape they see. They watch the liquid going up the straw. I have kids aging from 6 to 11 and they don't think like that mother did. My point is yes alot of us adults see it but she was being paranoid if she thought any child would see that. Most parents out there would know that their children's minds doesn't automatically see the nasty side of everything. If we use our adult minds to view things for our children (which we do on a daily basis) we need to always remember that. BTW I just brought up the pic for my 11 yr old and asked what it looked like and they responded that it looked like a nose, the cartoon drawing of a nose. As an after note this story reminds me of the one who sued McDonalds for getting burnt by coffee. Can we say use that brain for something useful.
