CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Springtime usually means a break in the numbers of viruses circulating among kids.
We’re not quite to spring yet but things are looking up. We might be rounding the corner when it comes to flu season.
Dr. Art Rubin at ABC Pediatrics in Charleston says he's still seeing a lot of the respiratory virus, RSV, and also the flu, although Dr. Rubin says he thinks flu cases might have peaked.
He’s also seeing kids with strep throat, which is treated with antibiotics. Fifth disease is in the rundown. It causes a low-grade fever, headache, and mild cold-like symptoms. After that passes, a tell-tale rash usually appears. It starts with a red rash on the cheeks that spreads down to the body. It's usually most contagious before the rash appears. Dr. Rubin has also seen a few cases of chicken pox.
Doctors at Jackson Area Family Practice & Pediatrics in Jackson, Ohio are treating a number of ear infections, and they're also seeing a lot of patients with a cough and from Roane County. Doctors at Roane General in Spencer are also seeing a lot of people with the flu. They’re also seeing patients with bronchitis, and sinusitis.
