MINGO COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The man who was responsible for creating a powerful radio signal in the mountains of southern West Virginia and eastern Kentucky has died.
Bob Harvit, the founder of WXCC-FM in Mingo county and former owner of WBTH-AM, died Monday at his home in Miami Beach, FL at the age of 70.
After getting a license for the FM signal in the 1970's, the station boosted to 100 thousand watts.
The Mingo county native was enshrined last fall into the West Virginia Broadcaster Association's Hall of Fame.

Just found out about Bob's death while browsing online for some news about what used to be my home. It made me very sad. I worked for Harvit Broadcasting when WXCC went on the air in the fall of '78, and I had a blast! I've lived many places and had many media jobs since then, but none of them has been nearly as much fun. I've also never encountered people who were any nicer and warmer or more down to earth. Wish I could tell Bob and the rest of the old gang at WBTH/WXCC how much I appreciated them.

Kenny, thank you for the kind words. While I will remember Bob first and foremost as the most incredible human being I've been blessed to know, it is good to hear that his groundbreaking work in broadcasting has had a lasting impact and that you continue to enjoy WXCC.
