Firefighters are investigating a fire that destroyed 1 house and damaged two neighboring structures.

The fire at 14-hundred block of 28th Street was reported shortly before 5:30 Wednesday morning.

We’re told no one lived in the house that initially caught fire.

A family and a woman who lived in the neighboring house and apartment are now getting help from the Salivation Army. No one was injured in the fire.

Investigators say they are looking at the possibility that a homeless person have started the initial fire.

Firefighters were still on the scene at 8:30 putting out hot spots.

To DJ Fowler, I can understand your frustration. But do be thankful you didn't lose the most important thing, your family. Anything else pales in comparison.

This was my father In-laws home that was burned down. When we were down there 2 weeks ago my father In-law called the city and reported this abandoned house. The city didn't do anything about it at all. They just agreed that the home was a danger in the community. The house was literally falling apart. We seen someone living in the house, there was no water, elect., windows or anything. He reported this house over and over and nothing was done. Now my father In-law's family is without a home also. They lost everything in the fire. They got out with nothing but the pajama's they had on. If he wasn't up getting ready for work and smelled the fire his whole family would have probably died. So for the city officials in Huntington, I really salute you.(with a boot in the behind) To my father In-law and his family there, we LOVE you guys and wish we were there to give you guys a hand, you will stay in our hearts and prayers. I just hope you guys get this message.

The people who lost their home is now "homeless" are they included in the list to be run out of town. hgtn has great resources however some persons can not handle leaving in a shelter.. when they ask for money give the number to a resource in town...the true needy will seek help the substance abusers will quit asking....give them the number to harmony house, city mission, information and referral the numbers are in the phone book.

I know all about the grace of God. I am talking about the ones who are there to make a living. It's the same ones, day in and day out.

till the fire marshel decides you shoudnt be pointing any fingers.its just waiting to see who or what started it.leave it to the good guys to find out who did it.

When I go out to the store or sometimes to a restaurant in Huntington, I get panhandled. It is illegal to panhandle in the city limits but they do it anyway. They can make a lot of money doing it. One time I offered my meal to a panhandler since he was wanting my $$ to get something to eat and he denied it and got angry with me. I am sure he just wanted $$ to get drunk on. We had to stop taking our kids to Riverfront park because of this problem. There are plenty of opportunities for them to get real help and make a good life for themselves. It really is a shame.

This is a fine example of why stricter penalties should apply to the owners of abandoned buildings and houses. I, for one, am tired of the bums and riff-raff calling the shots...if all abandoned places were leveled and the bums (the ones who choose to remain homeless and refuse help) cannot access them, perhaps they will move on. It's high time we run bad elements out of town (bums, drug dealers, theives, scum).

So let me understand this---2 people's houses are damaged because of the actions of a bum? Something needs to be done about the habitualness of the bums in downtown Huntington. I cannot take my girlfriend to dinner without bums bumming for my money!!!
