HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Apple's iTunes now has a competitor hot on its tail and a there’s a website with unbelievable deals for one day only.
Amazon's taking a bite out of Apple's iTunes. In six months, Amazon's digital music arm has become number two, behind iTunes. That’s because Amazon sells more music that can be played through other software and/or other mp3 players.
Much of Apple's offerings are proprietary and only play on iTunes or an iPod. The competition has forced Apple, though, to offer more downloads without the copyright protection and at a more competitive price.
A security lapse prevents Facebook users from hiding their faces. A computer technician found his way around new privacy controls on the social-networking website, peeking at pictures that really should have been off-limits.
A Facebook spokesperson says the site fixed the problem an hour after being notified Monday. Facebookers should once again be safe and secure.
Two cable giants that operate here in our region are now looking to team up and offer a high speed wireless internet service. Comcast and Time Warner are in discussions to begin a nationwide Wimax network that would be run by Sprint, Nextel and Clearwire.
The system would promise faster internet connection speeds than most current wireless networks. We’ll keep an eye on when the service could arrive here in our area.
The link of the day is for bargain shoppers. It's called woot.com. It's an online store and community that sells lots of cool stuff for cheap.
The site started as a test place for an electronics distributor, but the site's owners say it's taken on a life of its own. Wednesday's item was the I-Robot Roomba Vacuum Cleaning Robot. Usually the prices aren't as high, but again you're actually getting a deal. We checked other sites and found prices $100 higher than woot.com. You only have day to buy the items.
One of the downsides, though, is that you can’t return the items you buy.
