Investigators have released the name of the man who died in a fire in Wellston, Ohio.

Fire officials say the victim is 60-year old Clarence R. Buskirk. The fire happened early Tuesday inside an apartment at 1439 South Pennsylvania Avenue.

Investigators say Mr. Buskirk’s body was found in a storage room closet about 5 feet from an exit door. They say fire started in a living room couch. Investigators are looking at smoking material that may have been improperly disposed of.

Investigators also found non-working smoke alarm in the apartment. They say the charged battery was not making contact.

Right now, fire officials have not been able to locate any of Mr. Buskirk’s relatives. Anyone with information should call the Wellston Fire Department.

I think it is terrible how he died. thoughts and prayers for the family. But it is bad that he was found so close to the exit. Plus the smoke detector was not working because the battery was not installed correctly. let this be a lesson. check the smoke alarms regularly. peace for those who mourn

My heart goes out for Mr. Buskirk. It hurts my heart that the media has to try to help locate his family. I hope his passing will motivate at least one person to install fire alarms for their family's safety. There are people out here that was affected by Mr. Buskirk's passing eventhough we never had the pleasure of meeting him.
