LOUISA, Ky (WSAZ)--Two members of the Louisa Police Department were arraigned this morning on charges of official misconduct.

Chief Kevin Adkins and Officer Barry Bellomy face first and second degree misconduct charges after being indicted by a Lawrence County, KY Grand Jury. All the charges are misdemeanors.

According to the indictment, Bellomy is charged with ignoring a police call while he was at the home of a former reporter for the Big Sandy News.

Bellomy and the chief are also accused of harassing the reporter, Roberta Blevins.

Blevins told NewsChannel 3 that both men were trying to harass her to get tape recordings she had relating to an investigating of the two officers.

During their arraignment in District Court, Adkins and Bellomy pleaded not guilty to the charges. Their next court date is set for May 21.

I hear that there's an audio CD recording going around out there of another officer employed by the LPD...supposedly, he uses profanity and cusses out a citizen of Louisa that he had a personal problem with...the worst thing about it is that i'm almost 100% sure that the officer left the recording on a cell phone while he was ON DUTY!!! at least thats what I was told by a member of city council....to me, thats just as bad as what Adkins/Bellamy did by ignoring a call while on duty...has anyone else heard anything about this or obtained a copy of the cd with the "other" officer's voice??? i think that its definitely something the public needs to know about. Any info is appreciated.

ya know what folks i have known roberta blevins for many, many years. and the truth is that she just loves attention and i just believe that she is full of it ! she has always just wanted somthin to go on about, and she just took the oppurtunity. just my opinion.the bad part is that selfish people dont think about the people around them and the ones that they hurt. its sad that a man may lose his career over people like that. these men will be in my prayers.

oh, and one other thing to add. don't you people think it's a little strange that the harassment charges came about only after mrs. blevins talked to the commonwealth attorney. i don't recall any thing in the paper where she filed any complaint with the state police, sheriffs departmaent, or the fbi. so who is scratching who's back. if it smells like duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck......

I saw in the Ashland Daily Independent that other officers besides Adkins and Bellony harrassed Roberta Blevins. Who are they Roberta? Will we find out?

Wow, does this attorney live in Louisa? Guess he doesn't know the real story. I don't care if you have worked for 50 years at the LPD, it still doesn't give you any higher authority than the citizens. The only thing they were good for is intimidation. This attorney needs to question the citizens and cut his clients free and not represent them. Boy is he in for an eye opener. Perjury more like it. Good luck Mr. Attorney, you're gonna need it! ha ha ha ha ha

Well regardless of what happens in the end, these guys will probably still be employed as officers by the city, so be careful not to post your real names as it could come back to haunt you in the way of being harrassed as Mrs.Blevins was. This Bellomy guy is a very, very, cold person, and if these officers get away with this he's gonna be worse than ever! You citizens of Louisa need to start a petition or something to make sure that this guy never walks the streets with a badge any more. People not from Louisa are probably saying"WELL IT'S PROBABLY NOT THAT BAD IN LOUISA", but believe me folks, all you have to do is talk to it's residents and they'll tell you. If the blue light hits you, just pray that it's not the gray haired guy with a tatoo on his arm. You'll think you've landed in the Twilight Zone. I know I did! And if you're reading this Mr. Bellomy, I WAS in Louisa visiting family, and I DID come to a complete stop!

I'm glad that Bellomy finally got in trouble for something. Maybe this will put him on a little closer watch so that he doesn't continue intimidating and being shady.

The funny thing is that Bert is not the only one that has been harrassed by our local police. Many people wont come forth with the news because the police do many things to intimidate them. I think that it is sad to fear the police that are paid and supposed to protect you. I think its about time all the crooked cops to be exposed, and to be fired. Once fired I dont think they should be allowed to have a badge or firearm.

Hello, I just want to say that there are very good officers here in Louisa. Two of them was walking around town the other night and spoke to me like I was a human being. I recognized one but who was the new dark headed boy. Very polite boys they were and we need more like those two men. It was nice to see officers walking the streets just like the old days. Thanks Guys. I think things are looking up already.

what? no post's??

Posted by: Sad on Apr 8, 2008 at 08:33 PM
This is a poor excuse for city police. Any town can do better than this. Louisa needs to cut the bad apples loose and move on to better help. Why can't police just do their job correctly anymore?

What was the investagation about she had the recordings for? What was the call they ignored?

Posted by: Anonymous on Apr 8, 2008 at 05:09 PM
Were they put in jail, like anyone else would if they were accused of doing what they did? Probably not. That is the way the system is in Louisa.

I AM NOT A CROOK .... OOPS WRONG WORDING . I KNOW PROVE ME GUILTY !! BE CAREFUL THE BLUE WALL DOES EXIT.

I thank that the to police officer should have to spend time behind bar because they think they do nothing wronge thinks to the reporter for pressing charges

Posted by: Anna on Apr 8, 2008 at 11:10 AM
Well misdemeanors, what do you expect? Slaps on the wrist. I say make them a statement and throw them in the cell. All they want to do is let them be convicted and that be that. As for ignoring a call, glad someone didn't die from this call. It could have been a bad situation. Yeah lawsuit. If they would ignore my call, I would go higher than lawrence co. to take care of the matter. And Ms. Blevins no longer works for the Big Sandy. She's not even an issue in this case now. It's up to the people now!

Maybe its time for Louisa to go to a County run government. You dont hear of all these problems with the county Sheriff's dept. I havent heard any complaints about the county deputies or the sheriff harassing anyone since Mr. Roberts has taken office.

IF the two are convicted then they should never be allowed to be police officers any were again.
