GALLIPOLIS, Ohio (WSAZ) – The teenage driver of an SUV involved in a deadly crash that killed her passenger, has been charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter.
Bethany Hackney, 18, of Oak Hill, Ohio, was killed in the single vehicle crash on County Road 57 (Fairview Road) in Gallia County back on February 8.
Brianna Byus, 19, of Gallipolis, was driving that SUV.
Last week, Byus was charged for her role in the crash.
According to the complaint filed in Gallipolis Municipal Court, the Ohio Highway Patrol says Byus was speeding when she lost control, crossed the centerline, hit a ditch and overturned.
Byus is set to be arraigned on the charge November 1.

Bethany Hackney, 18, of Oak Hill, Ohio, was killed in the accident.
Hackney was a passenger in a Chevrolet Blazer driven by an 18-year-old woman. Charges are pending against the driver, according to the release. She only suffered minor injuries.
Two other passengers in the Blazer also had minor injuries. Only the driver was wearing a seat belt.
The Blazer was southbound on County Road 57 when it went off the left side of the roadway, struck a ditch, overturned and came to rest on its top.
The crash was reported at 3:05 p.m. Friday, and the roadway was closed about four hours during the investigation.
