HUNTINGTON, W.Va (WSAZ)--HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall University broadcast journalism student Griffin McElroy has been awarded the first Leah Hickman Memorial Scholarship in Journalism.
Leah Hickman was a Marshall journalism student who was murdered at her off-campus apartment in December 2007.
Dr. Corley Dennison, dean of the W. Page Pitt School of Journalism and Mass Communications said: “The School of Journalism and Mass Communications is honored to help keep Leah’s memory alive with the annual presentation of this scholarship. ”
McElroy, who is on the dean’s list, has worked with the Parthenon and WMUL. He is serving as an online reporter for MTV covering the presidential campaign in West Virginia.
The $500 scholarship presentation to McElroy was made by Leah Hickman’s mother, Sherri Russell, at the annual JMC awards ceremony in April.

I think everyone who has been following this case needs to contact President Copp and tell him how disgusted we are. The day that this scholarship was awarded Leah's dad wasn't there because he was not told about it until the day of and by the time he found out it was to late for him to get there.
