RICHWOOD, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Richwood Area Community Hospital in Nicholas County is set to close in June.
That's according to a Richwood city council member.
Jim Fitzpatrick says more than a hundred employees found out the news during an emergency meeting Tuesday morning.
We're also told the hospital announced unless something happens financially it will close its doors June 27th.
A hospital spokesperson says employees were shocked when they got the news.
Lynne Williams says the hospital is in debt and there are making plans to file for bankruptcy.
We're told if the hospital closes, patients will have to travel miles to get the care they need.
The community is planning a rally outside the hospital Wednesday morning. It starts at 9 o'clock in the morning.

WHERE IS THE LOVE THAT JOE MANCHIN HAS FOR WEST VIRGINIA. SOUNDS LIKE THIS HOSPITAL NEEDS SOME SUPPORT FROM HIM AND THE ENTIRE STATE. SEEMS LIKE SOMETHING COULD BE PULLED TOGETHER TO SERVE THAT COMMUNITY AND ASSIST IN THEIR FINANCIAL HARDSHIP SO THEY DO NOT HAVE TO CLOSE THEIR DOORS. WHY DONT SOME OF THE OFFICALS OF THE STATE GO VISIT THE HOSPITAL AND SEE WHAT THEY ARE ABOUT. SEE THE CARE THEY GIVE TO THOSE NURSING HOME RESIDENTS AND SEE HOW GOOD THE CARE IS THERE. PUT FORTH SOME EFFORT TO SAVE THE RURAL HOSPITAL. HELP THEM TO SAVE LIVES. SHOW THE REST OF THE WORLD THAT WV LOVES THEIR FELLOW CITIZENS.

I am unbelievable sad by the closing of this hospital. This place is truly more than a hospital, it is home to 25 people who are loved by all who work there. My mother lives there. Her health made it necessary for her to leave her home and that was really hard for her. But thanks to the "family" she had around her at Richwood hospital she is happy and enjoying everyday. I pray that another solution can be found. I honestly believe that closing this hospital will be the worst thing that has happened to this community ever. I love this town and it's people. They deserve better.

Can't this hospital apply for PHS330 funding from the Government and set up as a FQHC? That would save them a lot of money. If someone connected to the hospital reads this, they should do some research and see.
