CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The Kentucky State Supreme Court is going to hear a case that would send chills down anyone's spine.

A convicted murderer isn't fighting for his life. Instead he's involved in the fight for his death.

Marco Chapman wants the high court to move up his execution date.

He's from Kanawha County, but is on death row in Kentucky for raping and stabbing a young mother and killing her two small children.

Chapman is on Death Row. He's a man who wants to die sooner, rather than later.

Chapman said, “You'd have to be surely screwed up to kill a child.”

With his hands held tight, and a face that showed little emotion, March Chapman talked about life and death decisions. In a controversial twist, this death row inmate isn't appealing his execution, he's fighting to make it happen faster.

He said, “Me living, their children dead. I'm ready to accept my fate."

Back in 2002, at a home in Warsaw, Kentucky, Chapman, in a drunken rage, brutally raped and stabbed a young mother Carolyn Marksberry. Then he stabbed all three of her children. 7 year old Chelbi Sharon and 6 year old Cody Sharon died. Carolyn and her ten year old daughter Courtney survived.

Chapman was from Cabin Creek in West Virginia.

Within hours of the murders, he was back in Kanawha County, caught and arrested after being spotted at a convenience store.

He never denied his guilt and instead has been fighting to be put to death ever since, “I took 2 lives, they should be able to take mine."

The case is unprecedented in Kentucky. The battle is built on the argument that moving up Chapman's execution date is court assisted suicide. Chapman readily admits that he's begging for death because life in prison is not worth the wait.

Chapman said, “A life sentence here would be death. There's no life here, you're just existing and death is just something they're going to do eventually."

He says he can see clearly now and realizes the true impact of what he's done. In Marco's mind, death is the only answer, “Like I said I can't ask for forgiveness, but I'd like them to know how sorry I truly am."

He also knows that sorry won't bring back Cody and Chelbi. It can never erase the pain their mother and sister still feel today, “I'm ready to have closure on this thing and give the family closure."

Now, the high court must decide if he should be forced to live longer with what he's done, or if his mind and life can be put to rest. It’s a fight to the death that might never bring peace for anyone involved.

Other inmates have asked for voluntary executions. But Chapman's case is groundbreaking because he waived his right to a trial, sentencing by jury and is begging to be sentenced to death.

The Kentucky Supreme Court will soon rule on his request to stop all appeals and issue the death warrant.

If the court approves, Chapman could be put to death as early as late June.

Posted by: Isaac on May 13, 2008 at 05:20 AM
To Jessica: I am sorry about the assumption it just seems more than not that is how these stupid people get their foot in the door to end up torturing innocent children.

Posted by: carter co. on May 12, 2008 at 11:18 PM
We only have one judge!! I am so sorry for this family that this has happened to,But does 2 wrongs really make 1 right?

Posted by: Isaac on May 11, 2008 at 01:08 PM
I am cold hearted, honey what this man did is cold hearted, all I did was tell the truth! All to often women with low self esteams take in men exposing their children to drug addicts.I never said the woman deserved what happened,I would be willing to bet however that she ignored all the warning signs that this peice of trash gave her and allowed him to stay around ,or by the time she got ready to give him the boot it was to late. This poor lady did not deserve this, her children certainly did not!As parents we must protect our children from all danger and that includes the people we date, she was responsible for who she brings around her kids! ALSO I do work and pay taxes but I am not stupid like you who can't see when a man would rather die to take the easy way out!So I guess your just to cheap to see a man pay for a vicious crime you would rather save a buck!!! Not me, I say make him do exactly what he doesn't want to do, live with seeing those poor babies faces every night!! DON'T BE DUMB

1. MC wasn't drunk, he was high 2. Mother's actions played NO role in what happened 3. MC wants to die 4. Mother wants him to die 5. Ky Law says death penalty applies You do the math. What you all want doesn't matter. He's not crazy, just remorseful. Actually refreshing coming from death row since the rest of them all say "I did it, but it's not my fault because . . ."

Posted by: jim on May 10, 2008 at 10:21 AM
Go ahead and execute him and make room for more prisoners. Get this over and move on.

Posted by: Gary on May 10, 2008 at 04:16 AM
he may just b saying that 2 try 2 get off on some kinda mental issue or he may really wanna die 1 things 4 sure God judges us all

Posted by: anon on May 9, 2008 at 10:16 PM
one man isn't going to make a difference in our taxes. he is suffering according to him. let him suffer, i think mike said it all. let him live with this and suffer.

Posted by: Mike on May 9, 2008 at 06:04 PM
Anyone who thinks this man should be allowed to choose to be put to death is ignorant. To say "kill him" is just a knee-jerk reaction made by those who have no business making a decision like that. Of course he needs to be severely punished, but giving him what he wants isn't punishment, it's reward for him. Put him on suicide watch and hard labor until he dies.

Posted by: MIKE on May 9, 2008 at 05:42 PM
Put it to him. Good ridence to Bad Rubbish.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 9, 2008 at 05:20 PM
he should not get what he wants and have to sit and think for the rest of his life about what he did!! letting him die would be such a gift for him let him live and suffer till the day god takes him!!!

Posted by: Jessica Ralston on May 9, 2008 at 04:46 PM
For Isaac: I read your comment about the mother, and I want to clarify something that wasn't written in my story. This woman didn't "let" Marco Chapman hang around her kids. They weren't "involved" at all. He was mad about something she said about him to a friend....and so he went to their house, busted in and attacked her family. This woman and her children were victims. Marco Chapman admits that there was nothing anyone did to provoke this and there was nothing they could to to prevent it. So, it's really not fair to blame the mother.

Posted by: pennie on May 9, 2008 at 03:53 PM
i think that he should not be put to death early let him live and relive the horrible things that he has done. he should have to live with that everyday of his miserable life. the mother has to go on living and remembering what happened why shouldn't he

Posted by: TAX PAYER on May 9, 2008 at 02:02 PM
Isaac, evedentually you dont work because if you did you would say kill him because we as tax payers are paying to keep him alive

Posted by: Debbie on May 9, 2008 at 11:05 AM
If I ever did such a horrible thing I wouldn't want to live with myself either. I think some perps actually do have a conscience, and if he's really one of them, he should have to suffer his guilt and abide his time instead of just wanting the easy way out. Kevin is right, what he wants no longer matters.

Posted by: Kentucky Girl on May 9, 2008 at 10:40 AM
TO KEVIN: Do really want to waste more of your tax dollars on keeping this man on death row? Do you have any idea how much it cost a year to keep an inmate in prison? The prisons are over crowded anyway and too much money is already being spent on these thieves, murders, rapest, and child molesters...and the funny thing is that they are probably living better than the people they committed the crime against. Prisons aren't like the ones you see on tv all stone walls and steel bars. They have comfy little bunk beds, with nice hardwood doors, playstations, basketball courts, baseball fields, soccer fields, indoor ball courts, weight rooms, band rooms, schools, chapels. Its like a little fenced in community! Serving time isn't like jail time used to be, it's a vacation! No bills, you dont have too work, free medical care, free food, heat in the winter and air conditioner in the summer! He may be suffering now, but I believe death will be worse in his case. I say do what he asks!

Posted by: TO ISAAC on May 9, 2008 at 08:46 AM
You are a cold-hearted person. How dare you say the mother has any fault in this matter! She was brutally raped and stabbed herself. Society always blames the mother though. Double-standard! Men can accidentally shoot and kill their own children while hunting, but there's nothing but sympathy for him. You'd probably blame the mother for letting the child go hunting. This murderer bears sole responsibility; none for the mom. That's just cold.

Posted by: TC on May 9, 2008 at 08:08 AM
Think about it...When you die you know life no more! When you are alive you live your life by the choices made!!! By dying he's free by living he's tortured....The people who care for him like doctors, and mental health specialist and other people know if he is in deed mentally tortured or not.He deserves death...but that's to easy! Let him be tortured that's justice!

Posted by: Kevin on May 9, 2008 at 05:44 AM
Let Him Rot in Jail until his date. He has no rights! Who Care what he wants!

Posted by: Isaac on May 9, 2008 at 05:15 AM
No , NO He needs to be kept alive longer, he is wanting to die because he is suffering, that is exactly what he needs to do!! Let's not give him the easy way out, he never had mercy on those children! The mother should be punished to, for being stupid enough to let a drunken maniac around any of them!!! I say make him do what he doesn't want to do live with his guilt, maybe he will hang him self and save the state some money!! Or the other prisoners might get a hold of him!!!!

Posted by: a mom on May 9, 2008 at 12:05 AM
child killer---- kill him, he is right he shouldnt be here. that poor mother and what she has to live with every day, pull the pluge... or stab him like he did them poor kids, show him what it fills like to be stabbed to death.

Posted by: bubba army on May 8, 2008 at 11:57 PM
they can't fry this guy fast enough lets just stop wasteing money, court time and jail space.they should carry out the punisment and not keep people like this on death row. WV should have a express lane to the death chamber

Posted by: Bev on May 8, 2008 at 11:43 PM
Kill him slowly. That'll make him NOT want to die. I think the state should call his bluff and kill him now.

Posted by: derrick on May 8, 2008 at 11:22 PM
he's playing it well, smart! by saying that he "wants to die" they'll probably make him live forever in jail thinking thats what he doesnt want, when instead he's saving his own life..... smart

Posted by: Randy on May 8, 2008 at 10:27 PM
LEt him get his wish we dont need to pay for him anymore.he didnt give them a chance now deal with him

Posted by: sickened on May 8, 2008 at 10:13 PM
Why does he think that he deserves anything he asks for? Until his scheduled d-day, lets line his cell wall with pics of the autopsy, crime scene, family photos, etc. Then line all 4 walls in copies of the photos, then cover all them with plexi glass. A tv or radio to play the victim's family home movies. NOW, lets see how fast he asks for the date to be moved up. Ha.....

Posted by: Anon123 on May 8, 2008 at 09:25 PM
It should be up to the mother of the children he killed. What does she want to happen?

Posted by: gary on May 8, 2008 at 09:25 PM
keep him alive,,,let him suffer,,,,he will get out the easy way if they kill him,,they should starve him and beat him everyday just enough to make him suffer but not kill him
