BOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- They will not release cause of death or a possible motive, but police need your help to solve a fiery and fatal crime. And now, a desperate family has added $5,000 to the reward for an arrest and conviction.

This is the first time Hattie McConnell has been to the crime scene, a remote Boyd County spot off Highland Park Road. The house wasn't here until recently and it's the first time she's seen the picture of her son Robert Sammons’ burned out Camaro where his incinerated body discovered inside.

Trooper Elliott Gollihue with the Kentucky State Police said, “We've made great strides in the case, but no arrest, and I want to make an arrest.”

On October 28, 2005, 35 year old Robert Sammons’ body was found in his torched car and an arson and murder case began. The lead investigator, who won't release cause of death and won't pinpoint a possible motive said Sammons, a South Shore day laborer, had no real enemies and no ongoing feuds.

Gollihue said, “Everybody said he was a good guy.”

His mother said the guy they all called “Robo” once put his life on the line while during a gas station hold up.

Hattie said, “He chased the robber, and was on his cell phone with police.”

Trooper Gollihue said this is just one of several files on a murder case that has made significant progress.

Police have conducted over 100 interviews and they have people of interest. Now, they just need a few bits of vital information to take this murder case to court.

Gollihue said, “We know someone knows some vital info, we need to hear from them.”

Hattie said to find out who and why someone killed her son is why she lives and survives. She said she wants justice and closure.

Detectives said they need to talk to some people who wrote anonymous letters about the case. They say you can call from a pay phone if need be.

Anyone who might help find Robert Sammons killer, please call the Kentucky State Police. They need your information, not your name.

A reward should not matter you should have enough morals if you know anything about the case to let the proper authority know, think if this was your family.I hope and pray they find who did this,God bless.

Reward $$ is kept at a level that will encourage people with real information to come forward. If a reward is too high, all the creeps come out of the closet trying for the $$ and waste the time of investigators.

To Patrick: Do you know something? Is that why you think the reward should be higher? It is people like you that makes today's world the way it is.

Qur hearts go out to this family for the loss of their loved one! I hope some one comes forward and tells who did this to this families loved one! The ones who knows and does not tell are as guilty as the ones who did it! This family needs closure! This families life has been changed forever because of this Cruel and Violent Crime! A Mother,Father, all grandparents, sister, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, are waiting for a violent crime to be solved for a 15 yr.old child, that happened 3 yrs, ago. Reward money may help! Hope the people who commits these crimes think about what they did to a life every time they look at a child or has one of there own, and that it is a reminder everyday to them of what they did to some one elses child, a HUMAN LIFE! When and if they face death, hope its on their mind! The Higher Power will not let it be forgotten! The EVIL people who commit these crimes, cannot win because after the First Death from earth, they will face a Second Death after JUDGEMENT!

Whats more important....the reward amount or justice? Seriously, that is the dumbest remark I have ever heard (patrick). Do you really think the family should have to up the amount of a reward in order to get answers? Make it to much money and yeah, you're right, people will start talking..about anything in hopes to get a reward, then the police can spend all their time trying to distinguish who is telling the truth or just money hungry! What a selfish comment.

Whoever knows who did this should not turn them in for the money, they need to turn them in because it is the right thing to do. That is what is wrong with society today, some people feel they need to be rewarded for doing the right thing. What ever happened to caring for others? This is a sad time and whoever knows should turn them in!! I am praying for the family!

5,000? Seriosuly they need to up it. Someone died, of they want info they should up it and I bet people would start to come forward. Hopefully they will get it solved though.

How very devastating to hear news such as this about Rob. We never did get the pleasure of meeting such a great lady that he spoke so kindly of, his Mother. It has been near 13 years since we last saw him. He was just as bright & cheerful as you see him in the pic. He never had anything bad to say about anybody. How could anyone commit such a horrible crime? Execution could not be bad enough punishment for them. Hattie, hold on to your happy memories of Rob, and let them guide you through this difficult time and know that an angel is walking with you today and always. May Rob forever rest in peace.

Nice looking young man, how sad to have something like this happen to your child. I do hope someone grows a spine and a conscience and comes forward.

How sad for this family! He looked like he was a very happy young man and loved his Mother very much! My heart breaks for her and I hope some of the "anonymous" letter writers will become outspoken and give the details so that she can put this to rest! May God bless her and her family!

Mrs. McConnell needs the help of the public to find the murderer of her child. Unless you have lost a child you just can't comprehend the pain and anguish. Please help the police catch this man's murderer so his Mother can close that chapter. God bless.
