CARTER COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- Call it an F1 tornado on a scale of zero to five. That's the call from the National Weather Service about the storm that hit Carter County, Kentucky Sunday morning.
The NWS figures the tornado sustained about 100 mile per hour winds with a swirl. The diagnosis came after a trip from the National Weather Service to Carter County to take pictures and assess the wind damage.
Carter County's emergency management director said with less than 10 homes and a few outbuildings damaged, some utility wires and a pole down, this area will likely not qualify for any FEMA financial aid.
Carter County Judge Executive Charles Wallace said he's talked with state representatives about possible financial aid, but it's not clear if that will come through for the families.
