CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Hillary Clinton announced she will continue her race "in the home stretch" for the Democratic nomination for president. She made a pitch for monetary contributions to help her keep her campaign going against Barack Obama.

Mrs. Clinton opened her speech with a nod to West Virginia's unofficial theme song, "Country Roads" with the line, "as the song says, it's almost heaven."

Mrs. Clinton stated a fact she has mentioned a lot in this last week -- that no Democrat has won the White House since 1916 without winning West Virginia. She says she is winning the swing states like West Virginia.

Mrs. Clinton said she spoke with Senator Robert Byrd this morning.

"I don't know if any man has ever loved his state as much as Senator Byrd loves West Virginia," Clinton said.

Mrs. Clinton also thanked Governor Joe Manchin and First Lady Gayle Manchin. Governor Manchin and Senator Byrd are both undeclared superdelegates.

Mrs. Clinton called for the seating of the delegates from Michigan and Florida. The Democrat Party chose not to allow their votes to count because they moved their primary dates up earlier than the party wanted.

"I can win this nomination if you decide I should," Hillary Clinton told an enthusiastic crowd of supporters.

Update: 8:55pm
The Associated Press is reporting that John McCain has won the Republican Presidential Primary in West Virginia.

Update: 8:25pm
Clinton Emails Letter to West Virginia Voters

"After tonight's tremendous victory here in West Virginia, it's clear that the pundits declaring this race over have it all wrong. The voters in West Virginia spoke loud and clear -- they want this contest to go on.

I'm listening to the voters -- and to you.

With your help, I'm going to carry the energy of tonight's victory into the next contests in Kentucky and Oregon. And just as always, I'll be depending on you to share every step of this journey with me.

You have worked your heart out, put yourself on the line for what you believe in, and given generously. And I'm not about to turn my back on you.

We've proved conventional wisdom wrong time and again in this race. We did it again tonight in West Virginia. Let's keep going.

Thank you,
Hillary Rodham Clinton"

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Hillary Rodham Clinton won a large but
largely symbolic victory in West Virginia's primary.

But Barack Obama is still the leader and is closing in on the
Democratic presidential nomination.

The Associated Press made its call based on surveys of voters as
they left the polls.

Obama conceded defeat in advance in the Mountain State as he
looked ahead to the Oregon primary later in the month and the
campaign against Republican John McCain.

Interviews with West Virginia voters leaving their polling
places suggested Clinton's victory could be as overwhelming as any
she has gained to date. It was delivered by an overwhelmingly white
electorate comprised of the kinds of voters who favored her in past
primaries.

Nearly a quarter were 60 or older, and a similar number had no
education beyond high school. More than half were in families with
incomes of $50,000 or less.

"Posted by:indep by choice on May 15, 2008 at 11:35 PM." You said, and I quote "the Bible states a woman is not to be over man. God created woman (eve) from man (adam) and he made woman to not be over man but to obey." Here's the real story. When God created man, he stepped back to see what he had made. He said, "Nah, I can do better than that." So he created woman. Now tell me how can you go wrong on what God himself improved on? But of course you said your information came from the charleston daily mail vent line. Sounds like it came from another ticked off person. Have a good day. :-)

You are right not all people from West Virginia are racist, well at least 91,747 don't fit profile.

Ryan you're right. All we can do is vote for who's got the best VP.

Posted by: Sam on May 16, 2008 at 10:19 AM
Yep, we sent a message...and our message was returned...President Barack Obama!!!! Thank God WV is not the heart of America..only the armpit.

I won't vote for Mrs. Bill Clinton because she is a woman. If she can't please her husband, how is she supposed to please a country. I won't vote for Barry Obama because he is a racist muslim lunatic. Pretty easy choice. Vote McCain. Oh wait, he is so old he won't make it through his term. I am voting for the vice president I agree with most. It is sad this is all we have to choose from.

i DID NOT vote for hillary..i have toooo many BAD things to say about her; not to mention...ONE hot flash and she'll NUKE us all!!! and i wouldnt vote for "obama" either there is just something too ironic about capturing a "hussein" only to have him hanged and then to elect a "hussein" for president of our country. and yes obama's middle name is hussein..."google" it! im not even sure where i stand with my opinion on mccain; this country is going to hell in a hand basket.

Posted by: indep by choice on May 15, 2008 at 11:35 PM
first of all to BR, hillary wont get us out of debt, she herself is in debt, over $20mil on her campaign. secondly, in the charleston daily mail (i believe but not for sure) vent line, a person made it known that the Bible states a woman is not to be over man. God created woman (eve) from man (adam) and he made woman to not be over man but to obey.

Sad that HE has to count on the "true" racists (neighbor shooting black americans)in this country who are only voting for him BECAUSE he's black ! America doesn't need your vote. I'm not defending the other candidates, I'm defending the people in this country who are truly tired of hearing this whining about race. This is AMERICA and if you don't like the way it's run, go back to the country of your ancestors and see how much better it is.

Keep typing republicans! Your doing a fine job of proving how arrogant you are and how you feel that anyone that doesn't have your views are nothing but dirt under your feet. I have been voting over 30 years and I have never voted a straight ticket but thinks to Lord Bush and people like you making your comments I will never vote for another republican again. I will now live up to your comments and be a stupid poor white boy.

Sick of It, when the democrats finish with their taxation bill, all who make over $100k will take a huge cut. I said most democrats, not all, make less than $100k . I was also referring to this satate where something like 5% of less have an income less than $50k. Those who make more tend to get a little ticked when some liberal wants to take the money that they work for and give it to those who do not work. The more you make, the more you realize that the goverment has no clue what it is doing with your money. The goverment has no money that is not taken from the citizens. I have no problem paying for national defense and highways that we all use. I am sick and tired of paying for public housing that is nothing more than a breeding ground for the next generation of leeches and drug dealers. Medicaid people who go to the ER with every little sniffle, and make no effort to pay any portion of their bill, even though they had money for smokes, beer, and chips. These are who the Dems love

Hillary Clinton on Wednesday reiterated her vow to stay in the Democratic presidential race, but she said it would be a "terrible mistake" for her supporters to vote for John McCain over Barack Obama. "Anybody who has ever voted for me or voted for Barack has much more in common in terms of what we want to see happen in our country and in the world with the other than they do with John McCain," Clinton said on CNN's "The Situation Room." "I'm going to work my heart out for whoever our nominee is. Obviously, I'm still hoping to be that nominee, but I'm going to do everything I can to make sure that anyone who supported me ... understands what a grave error it would be not to vote for Sen. Obama." Exit polls out of West Virginia indicate that only 36 percent of Clinton's supporters would vote for Obama if he were the nominee. A bare majority of Obama's voters said they would vote for Clinton over McCain. Clinton has continued to do better than Obama with the white working-class voters, and Obama continues to get more than 90 percent of the black vote. The racial gap has become a key issue in the media, but Clinton said she regrets "people exploding an issue like that." http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/05/14/clinton/index.html

West Virginians can set back and not feel guilty this Nomember, after all, we overwhelmingly voted Hillary Clinton. Since it looks as if Obama will be the Democratic canidate, we must seriously consider who we elect to Congress. I think most of us know that Obama has no chance of beating McCain in November. Therefore, its extremely important to have Democrats control both houses of Congress to keep McCain in check. For West Virginia this means to elect Barth to the House of Representives. Capito has supported Bush and look where we are? We don't need her in Congress for another 2 years.

Note: Former President Clinton Sign the NAFTA free trade agreement into law back in 1993. Thier nothing but full of hot air. Talk about Globle warming

I don't think short term/short sighted voting is good for anything or anyone in America. What's REALLY important to the citizens of the US? Whoever wins the presidency will hold office for at least four years. Is a lapel pin worn today or a song sung after a primary as important as the events that are going to transpire after our November elections? No, they won’t. And voting based on a candidates experience is basically like gambling since no one knows how to be president from “day one”. I ask voters, what experience did Abraham Lincoln have before he was elected - or any other president for that matter? I doubt you would have elected their wives or considered those women competent enough to be president based on their “experience” in the White House. Also, more power to the African American population for voting for the candidate that provides them representation after hundreds of years of white men. I'm 23, a white woman from Ohio and I'm for Obama.

I am so sick of people downing WV!!! We are not all poor, racists, uneducated people. I'm not and I live here! As for John I'm a Democrat and earn more then 100k a year, so what?? I'm neither poor nor stupid. Even the less fortunate people have a right to express their opinions. It seems only people like you feel otherwise. Its also people like you that give our beautiful state a bad name!! Some people really cant help their situations, then again some can, I see it everyday. I do not rely solely on the government to "fix" problems for me, we can only help ourselves in the end.

Posted by: ML on May 14, 2008 at 10:47 PM
This is to JT...obviously, you are dyslexic if you found a lot of grammar errors in Proud Voters posting. What is even more obvious, is that you are the uneducated one. Not all West Virginians are uneducated. You should really find something else to occupy your time, besides picking apart a person's opinion!! This is a public forum for public comments and we all have our right to freedom of speech..that is until Obama is elected and next thing you know all the women will have to wear head coverings to be seen in public!! So bite your tongue JT. Make sure your brain is loaded before you start shooting off your mouth!

Posted by: FOR JT on May 14, 2008 at 10:46 PM
Excuse me....what was the problem? Could you not read plain English??? MY post was written a whole lot better than most Ive seen in my past readings on here. BTW I'm neither old nor uneducated. So find something else to do with your time rather than pick peoples post apart OK. There were plenty of post on here that you had to read and reread just to understand what they were trying to say. That is all I have to say and its ppl like you that make me sick, I will not be replying to your remarks again. I gave my opinion, I do not pick ppl out on here and put them down. They all have a right to say what they want and feel, as do I. WE may not all agree but we are all human and we are allowed to make typos.

I voted for Hillary Clinton...I really do believe she will do a wonderful job for the united states. Not that Obama wouldn't make a good leader to. But I still like Hillary as comander and chief. You go Hillary your doing a great job. We are glad we could help...WV.

Posted by: anon on May 14, 2008 at 10:02 PM
These Hillary stories are hilarious! Now did you really think that in this state....a black man could win?? There are so many racist people here....I imagine it was tough though....the only way most of people in WV would vote for a woman...is if the alternative was black person. It was no surprise that Hillary won here...all we can do is pray that she does not make it for president...if she does...we are all going down!!!!!! Obama too....Mccain is our only hope...

Posted by: John on May 14, 2008 at 09:52 PM
EVer notice how most democrats earn less than $100,000/yr. Ever notice how most democrats actuall believe that the goverment can "fix" a problem. Poor and stupid. This explains why most West Virginians are democrats.

Almost Heaven. Yea Right. It will be almost Hell if Clinton gets Elected.

Posted by: your neighbor on May 14, 2008 at 07:53 PM
James, you are the one who needs to do some research. Socialism is defined as any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods; a system of society or group living in which there is no private property; a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state; a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done. I will agree with you that the educational system in the US, especailly WV, is an "experiment." You assume to much when you assume I am a product of that 'social experiment' you hold is such high regard. My family pays taxes so that your children can take part in that experiment. I homeschool.

It's annoying to be branded racists and uneducated by simply exercising our right to vote. Perhaps it was a good political move for Obama to avoid WV like the Ebola virus, but he simply ran from a fight. Hillary is facing a seemingly insurmountable challenge and she is digging and clawing her way through. If Obama is presenting himself as a leader and one who will guide the country through incredibly complex and daunting challenges, he has not demonstrated that he has the courage or tenacity to do it. West Virginians are the most giving and kind people I have ever encountered in my travels throughout the country. If Obama had the fortitude and had put forth the effort of getting to know us, the election may have had a different outcome. However, given the amount of work he did in our state, he received what he deserved -- a thumping by Hillary! Spin it however you want, that's the reality.

Well Race isn't an issue for me. I thought Bill Clinton was a GREAT president and with him backing Hilary she will be just as awesome. She probably even had much say over what went on when Bill was is in office. With the war and our troops being killed overseas and having to leave their famalies for months at a time..we need a motherly person in office right now. I think it's best for the US. Not that Obama wouldn't make a great president..i just don't think he has much to offer compared to Hilary. I hope and Pray that Hilary wins this Election in November. The United States Need It!

IF YOU WANT TO CONTINUE PAYING 4-5 DOLLARS A GALLON OF GAS VOTE FOR MCCAIN OR OBAMA WHO WILL CONTINUE TO DISTRIBUTE OUR MONEY OVERSEAS. MAKE THE SMART MOVE VOT HILLARY!!!!!

Thanks, anonymous, for correcting me. It was early in the AM when I saw the statistic. I, unlike Senator Shrill-ary, take responsibility for my mistake. But still, it is a sad state of affairs when RACE plays any factor at all in today's United States.

Posted by: Eric on May 14, 2008 at 02:40 PM
Of course race is important, God obviously made races for a reason. Did it have anything to do with my vote? Yes and no, Yes that voted against Obama because I think that He, His wife, and friend/pastor for more than 20 years, are all racist against whites. No, in the fact that it was not because of the color of His skin, rather the condition of His heart. I think He is racist against white america. Like Chris well noted, Obama is half white because of His white mother. I too wonder why He is always mentioned as being black? Is He not proud of His white heritage also?

Posted by: a proud American on May 14, 2008 at 02:16 PM
Those of you who "are embarrassed" to be from WV or say "Canada looks better all the time", need to relocate.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 14, 2008 at 01:32 PM
David as a Obama supporter I hate to correct you , but as a West Virginian I have to. You need to learn how to read statistics. First off I see the number as 82% not 72%, but also that is 82% of people voted for Hillary of the 22% that said race was important. So the other 78% of people polled said that race was not important at all. So in reality if I remember my statistics class right the percentage of voters for Hillary that found race important is 0.82 x 0.22 = .18 or 18% of the people who voted for Hillary found race was important.

Posted by: Mary on May 14, 2008 at 01:17 PM
I for one, voted for Hillary yesterday and I am proud that I did!!! I am not voting for a racist, unappreciative, anti-christ that goes by the name of OBAMA!! And in the fall I plan to vote for McCain if Hillary isn't the nominee, I am going to cling to my guns and my religion to NOT let the anti-christ run my country!! SORRY!!! He has also said in his book that he would rise with the muslims so when he rises with the muslims against our country.. Thanks to ALL the people that voted him in!!! Hopefully people wake up and vote McCain in November. :)

Posted by: Chris on May 14, 2008 at 01:12 PM
I wonder if they asked black voters if race was important...would that be construed as racism? And it's funny how the media keep saying Obama is black, people seem to forget that He is half white.

On a general note about the election, can anyone clearly explain to me about the issue with "independents"? I guess I wasn't the only one confused about it. If we register independent, are we not allowed to write in or cast our vote for ANYONE other than the two major party nominees? The way the paper described it & some of the tv stations, it sounds as if the only thing you could vote for if independent were local races. Is that true? If so, what's the point of being "independent" AND how democratic is that if it's true? Hope someone can explain because I couldn't figure it out. But I still haven't figured out yet what all was happening back in late Winter where only WV's Repubs or delegates or whatever could vote. Why can't there be ONE primary nationwide like one general election? Well, I know the Constitution set the rules BUT since this bunch in DC (both sides) have broken other parts of it, why not this part & revise it to make ONE primary? Seems a mess to me

Elaine, Hillary fighting for the underdogs? She was a corporate attorney for Wal-Mart. When the election began she dumped her stocks which included Wal-Mart, Exxon, and large defense contractors. She's made millions while Wal-Mart pays substandard wages, is anti-union, gets subsidies to infest our towns and encourages workers to take advantage of the welfare system since their healthcare plans aren't good. Hillary has made millions post-9/11 and with the Iraq war with the rising gas prices and the big bucks being thrown at defense contractors in building America's war chest. Keep dreaming if you think Hillary works for underdogs. A vote for Hillary was not only a wasted vote, but a vote for a candidate that bases her behavior not on her own personality but on opinion polls. A flag lapel will help me get the poor white vote? I'm on it! WV made their choice, but when the nat'l news reports "race" as a factor in the election it makes me embarrassed to live in WV. Just the facts.

your neighbor, if you think socialism rewards laziness you are sadly mistaken. Socialism was/is all about communities working together to make a change and not political elites making all the decisions. One of the better social experiments in American history is public education. It allowed you to read and write, though it appears you haven't read much on socialism.

Goldie you are so full of it. You don't know anything about the hiring of a police officer! You can't lie about past drug abuse. You have to take a lie detector test. And I know you didn't read Obama's book and much as you dislike the man. You wouldn't waste your time so stop quoting what other's have said on this page unless you have actually read it from somewhere with some credibility!

Posted by: David on May 14, 2008 at 09:24 AM
Well, Goldie--President Bush used cocaine. I guess WV should be proud--MSNBC exit polling data shows that 72% of the people who voted for Hillary Clinton said that race was important! I hear banjo music!!!

Posted by: Anonymous on May 14, 2008 at 09:20 AM
How do you people call Obama prejudice against whites? You do realize that he comes from a white mother don't you. That means he is prejudice against his white mother and white grandparents that raised him? I guess you base your decisions on Rev. Wrights comments that did not even come out of Obama's mouth. You probly base your decisions on Wright from the little tidbits the media showed to portray him in the worst light. Watch the entire speech and tell me he says a whole lot that is not true. Watch the part where he says that Bill Clinton was one of the best presidents this country ever had. Why didn't the media play that? Because it wouldn't start a controversy. Not counting the Super Delegates Hillary now trails by 168 with 189 left up for grabs. That means she needs to win 89% of the delegates after a dominating win in WV she only got 56% of the delegates. The super delegates will not change the vote of the people it is over.

Kudos to WV! I have always been proud to be a West Virginian, this just makes me all the more! I am, however, disappointed and somewhat angered that Rockefeller and Rahall decided to support Obama even before those who elected them had spoken. I feel as though their premature decision was like a slap in the face to the voters of WV. I am, and always will be a devoted Democrat, but with the previous actions of Rockefeller and Rahall, I don't plan to vote for either candidate again.

I for one am glad its over...for Hillary and WV primary, and the embarassment of it all. Hillary had nothing but her complexion to connect with this state. I did not take the exit poll survey..surprised Rev Wright didnt come up...how sad, so very sad. Did anyone notice that John Edwards received votes also? Do the folks of this state not KNOW that both Clinton and Edwards have lost?

Wake Up!!! We know that Hillary isn't going to get the nomination. So all of those voters who voted for her will switch to McCain in November and WV will once again go RED! Obama should read between the lines here. She won by such a large margin that it is clear. If she won the nomination, she would win in November here in WV but that isn't going to happen. So, be prepared to go RED. I personally didn't vote for president. I voted but refused to vote for either of them. I have no confidence in either.

Posted by: WV Republican on May 14, 2008 at 08:31 AM
The only reason Hillary won was because she is the lesser of two evils. There is no one candidate deserving the presidency this time around. The democrats are too liberal...I'm a woman myself, but I dont want a female commander in chief telling my Marine husband to go overseas and fight again...I dont want a terrorist-funding Obama who wont wear a flag pin either...John McCain is no better...If you are a Christian with a conscience than you have no choices this November....just pray!

The L.A. says "The state's voters -- mostly white and working-class -- fit her strengths. Race also proves to be a factor." Is this not a racial comment against white people? Just because she is white, and won by such a huge margin, we are racial toward Obama? Seems you can say anything about whites, but don't dare speak a word against any other race.

Goldie, you are an idiot and should not be allowed to vote. First off you say Obama is an abuser and dealer by his own admittance. Yes he did say as a confused teenager he did some drugs, mainly pot but a few others when there was money. As for being a dealer that well I think he would have always had money for the others if he had been a dealer. What does a police officers job have to do with anything (I gauruntee there are some with the same "abuser" background)? Anyways with your theories someone that has used drugs at a certain time in their life should never grow up and change for the better. They should never be allowed a job, and should be in the cellar of America their whole life. What is wrong with someone graduating and going away to college and getting away from the drugs to earn a degree and become very successful in doing so. I personally like Obama's openess and think it shows he is a real person that will be straight-forward with the American people.

Posted by: Christian Voter on May 14, 2008 at 08:00 AM
Hillary & Obama are shoving their 'Christianity' down everyone's throats because they think we're too stupid to go and look up their voting records to see that they support disgusting legislation like partial-birth abortion. They hide behind their religion and vote as Satan himself would! I don't understand how they can say they love the Lord and then turn around and threaten to obliterate His children, be it by abortion or nukes or any other means. Hillary will land us in nuclear world disaster quicker than we can BLINK... she does not understand that threatening a Muslim nation whose belief is that it is their sole purpose to bring worldwide bloodshed to herald the return of their messiah is like giving them a ticket to heaven in their book - those people WANT the WORLD to die. McCain's not perfect, but he's the closest thing to a God-fearing man we'll get this run around, so he'll be getting my vote. I don't want to stand before my Maker and tell Him I voted for Hillary or Obama!

Posted by: Mike on May 14, 2008 at 07:47 AM
When Obama gets the nomination, The thirld world countries will dance in the streets and fire their Ak-47's. Mark my word. Americans have become too naive to the fact that most of the world is jealous of our great country and want it destroyed. Pure jealousy and nothing else.....

the people who voted for john edwards were trying to send a message of discontent with the other choices.

It was all ABOUT race & everyone knows it. As I posted on the Herald Dispatch just now (you can read my entire post there since I exceeded WSAZ's 1000 character rule), if anyone thinks these good ole' white boys in WV will vote for a WOMAN in November either, they're crazy. They WON'T. They don't want a woman OR a black man "atellin' THEM what to do". THAT is the thinking, mind-set AND stupidity of this sexist, bigoted State. She conned all of you & good ole boy (yeah right) Bill even went out & rubbed elbows with "real folks" out in Wayne. Well YEE-HAW! AND Hill/Chelsea even went to CHURCH here -photo op included. As I also posted on the HD board, for the record I'm a white, middle aged, fairly literate lady who thinks Obama is a much better candidate. BUT this State proved yet again how bigoted, backwards and stupid it is. Proved to the nation that they are right about "Almost Heaven". Good luck Hill, they'll vote for McBush in Nov, not a woman

Posted by: Goldie on May 14, 2008 at 05:48 AM
EVERY VOTE CAST FOR HILLIARY WAS A VOTE AGAINST OBAMA. THE PEOPLE OF WVA HAS SPOKEN. NOW LET KY. DO THE SAME. WE DO NOT WANT A FORMER DRUG ABUSER,AND DEALER BY HIS OWN ADMITTANCE, IT'S IN HIS BOOK, AS OUR NEXT PRESIDENT. I CAN'T SEE HOW HE CAN EVEN BE ALLOWED TO RUN WITH HIS BACK GROUND. THERE IS NO POLICE OFFICER IN WVA, OR KY. I GUARANTEE YOU THAT WAS A FORMER DRUG ABUSER, OR AT LEAST THEY DIDN'T ADMIT IT, BECAUSE THEY WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN HIRED., AND THEY ARE LETTING THIS FORMER DRUG ABUSER, BY HIS OWN ADMITTANCE, RUN FOR PRESIDENT OF OUR UNITED STATES. THIS IS NOT RIGHT. I GUESS MONEY TALKS.

Iam proun of Hillary, way to go, your best person for the job. Its time we look forward to a change and I belive you will make a change and make a stand no matter if it is a man or woman. Just to let you know my son voted 1st time in his life today and he voted for you. My other son thanks your great and he is in grade school and has been to both speech's in this area. He says Hillary Rocks...By the way to all of you who think differnce, for every good man out there it take a hell of a great woman to stand behide you because she is the one that help create you and help you in every ideal and everything you do. So to Hillary your a great woman and for all you men that can't see what a wife and morther can do. thank twice when you say women don't belong leaders because what leads our familys and leads you A WOMAN. Way to go Hillary I will be supporting you to the White House. so look beyond gender and what do you see I will tell you a great President. so get over it and VOTE HILLA.

I agree with you Maxine. I thought it was rude for Obama to ignore West Virginia because he knew he would lose to Clinton, but he still could of tried alittle more. It just shows America how hard he will fight for anything. If he thinks he won't win, then why try? I am suprised that he is still trying to be president because he don't have a snowballs chance of being that. Clinton can win and will win! She is the only one that can also beat McCain. So for the Dems who don't want another Republican President, you better open your eyes wide and wake up.

Posted by: your neighbor on May 14, 2008 at 01:43 AM
Those of you who are supporting Obama are not alone, the terror organinzation Hamas is also rooting for Obama. They know he will do a better job than Bill Clinton did in the 90's of destroying our military. Then, we won't be hearing about homicide bombers in the Mid-East, we will be seeing them right here in America. David is right. The job of the federal government is not to babysit us. The alternative to Capitalism, which rewards hard work, is socialism, which punishes hard work and rewards laziness. As for gas prices, you have voted in too many tree huggers who have tied the hands of American companies, forcing us to buy foreign oil.

Posted by: Proud Voter on May 14, 2008 at 01:31 AM
Yes only in WV will we vote for a candidate that is NOT prejudice!! Obama IS prejudice against white ppl and so is his wife. Not only that but the man does not have the political background to run our country.....2yrs as a Senator does not qualify you to run a country lol. Hillary is the best WOMAN for the job plain and simple. If she is not in the final running, you better bet I will vote Republican for the first time in my life. What I don't understand is why WE as Americans want to put a prejudice man in the position to run our country and with his past involvements...That's asking for it ppl, he will make things a heck of a lot worse than Bush (I cant believe I said that) but that's true. No its not the color of a persons skin in my eyes, but when that person himself is prejudice then yes that makes all the difference. We might as well give Bin Laden the key to our country to go ahead and run it because that's what will happen! I'm proud I voted for Clinton and you should be too!!

Posted by: Anonymous on May 14, 2008 at 01:10 AM
hay Wes how far is this -rascist- stuff going to go. everyone rascist if they dont vote for a black man. time to get real and go back to school. thats not the way to run for office calling everyone a rascist. Obama's so rascist and who dont see this. just like slapping a kid for kicking you in the leg. dont he have the right to what run for the house. dont that sound like he has rights. what more do you people want. dont vote the wrong man in just cause hes part black. vote the best in cause they will do a better job for us all. please remember the civil war

Posted by: David on May 13, 2008 at 11:58 PM
All you liberals are the same. Bush has been a good president and McCain will follow right behind him for another eight years. Cry, cry, cry, gas cost too much - tough its a free market. I want health care - get a job or move to China; its NOT the governments job. The war in Iraq - yea even I am not really a fan; but we will be there 5 to 10 more years if not 100. The cost of $4,000,000,000 a year is a lot. Put the troops guarding the Mexican border.

Posted by: Maxine on May 13, 2008 at 11:57 PM
Someone explain something to me. Why is it that I'm consider racist because I don't and never will vote for Obama. If that's the case, shouldn't the people who vote for Obama or McCain be sexist because they aren't voting for a woman. The door swings both ways. I'm a proud Clinton supporter and support her totally. For the record, I believe because he was to cheap to spend any time here in WV, Obama just lost his chance in this state. Even though he knew he was going to lose, he should have spent much more time here and made the rounds.

Only in WV will they cast votes for a nominee who withdrew himself from the presidential race 6 mos ago...(John Edwards)hello?????

Posted by: Jamie on May 13, 2008 at 11:28 PM
I hope that Hillary makes it to the hill. I think she has real solutions for issues facing our nation. Those solutions are not just for voters with deep pockets either. I applaud her sincerity and her willingness to reach all of America. I love my country and think that Hillary can really be a restoritive force for this country. She is fair, intelligent, and not afraid of the issues. I think a vote for Hillary is a vote for our future...

Congratulations ! !.. Hillary, you can do it.. You don't need the support of trash like Rockefeller, he is really a republican anyways..

Posted by: Elaine on May 13, 2008 at 10:53 PM
"Only in West Virginia" You better beleive it. West Virginia residents beleive it calling it as it is. We know when our paychecks are no longer covering our basic living expenses. We have been through the tough times and have had to tighten our belts to make ends meet. Every time this happens you can bet there has been a Republican in the White House. We also know the difference between political spin and cold hard facts. Obama promises "Change". Prior to running this year he did not acknowledge West Virginia even existed. He is pretending to be an "average American" I DON"T THINK SO. He is so far out of touch with us that he doesn't know what our problems are much less how to fix them. What has he really accomplished while in Congress - NOTHING MAJOR. Up until the last 18months he was just a member of congress but no one knew a whole lot about him. Hillary was well known even before Bill. She has always been fighting for the underdogs. Who do you think will protect our interest?

Posted by: Captain America on May 13, 2008 at 10:49 PM
West Virginia got it wrong twice. The Republicans chose Huckabee. The Dems chose Clinton. Both will not be the nominee come November. Our state voted for George W. Bush twice. That was a wrong choice.Alas, what is to become of us?

Posted by: Wes on May 13, 2008 at 10:47 PM
Truly a (not unexpected) step backward for the state. Sad that she has to count on the rascist, I mean "hard working white Americans" vote. And then make up new math on the fly to justify her staying in the race. Oh well, I'll sleep soundly knowing I cast my vote for the future president of the US. Barack Obama. And to be fair, if Hillary were going to be the nominee, I'd absolutely vote for her. I wonder how many Clinton supporters are willing to say the same about Obama. :)

I am proud that I voted for Bill, and I am also proud that I voted for Hillery. God help us if Osama gets nominated. If so, this will be the first time in my life that I ever voted for a republican in McCain. But at least McCain can not possibly be as bad as Bush has been.

The comment by Bio Man makes no sense to me. "Why would voters cast votes for a candidate with no mathematical chance of winning? I'll tell you why. Because this is America. West Virginians's votes count just as much as any other state. Only in West Virginia. What a great state.

Posted by: a reader on May 13, 2008 at 10:03 PM
FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY ADULT LIFE, I AM PROUD THAT WEST VIRGINIA HAS GOTTEN NATIONAL ATTENTION IN THIS ELECTION. What I really meant to say is : GO HILLARY !!!

Posted by: Bio Man and Logan Co on May 13, 2008 at 09:48 PM
Get real and keep listening to the media there are still 400 delegates left and by the math she still has a fighting chance so maybe you both need history and math lessons

Posted by: Anonymous on May 13, 2008 at 09:46 PM
Do the people honestly voting for Hilary because they actually want her to be president not realize the damage they are doing to the Democratic party. I mean she has no mathematical chance to win and is worsening the chances for the Democrats to win back the office in November by continuing the madness!!!!!

Posted by: t on May 13, 2008 at 09:42 PM
Oh....I think Im going to be sick...Why cant people see through the Clinton machine?

Why won't WSAZ post the other comments that have been made?

Posted by: WV Teacher on May 13, 2008 at 09:18 PM
Thank God for West Virginians courage, that they would vote for a candidate who is best for our country even when the mathematical chances aren't the best. If our nation was afraid to go against the odds our nation would still be under Brittish Rule, All History Teacher could have told you. I am a teacher in West Virginia and proud to say I vote for Hillary Clinton. Oh by the way yes I would vote for Bill Clinton if he ran again. Clinton presided over the longest period of peace-time economic expansion in American history, which included a balanced budget and a reported federal surplus. Based on Congressional accounting rules, at the end of his presidency Clinton reported a surplus of $559 billion. Clinton left office with an approval rating at 65%, the highest end of office rating of any President since World War II. With a record like that your right I would vote for him. If there is an insinuation to be made what was the people who voted for Bush last election thinking?

Posted by: Anonymous on May 13, 2008 at 09:07 PM
Only in West Virginia would they beat a dead horse. She should give up and hope she is asked to be VP

Posted by: dS on May 13, 2008 at 08:55 PM
the color of a person's skin does not determine their ability to run this country. oh yeah, and HRC has no chance of getting the nomination. do the math. have a good day. Obama! Obama! make that President-Elect Barack Obama!

Posted by: alyssa on May 13, 2008 at 08:44 PM
we don't vote only to back who might eventually win. We should all vote for the candidate we believe in. Otherwise we are only participating in a popularity contest rather than speaking our mind. Evenif hilary doesn't win, wv has sent a message.

Posted by: THINKING on May 13, 2008 at 08:41 PM
Now what? Certainly Obama does not want her as his VP- I don't!

Posted by: Lucinda on May 13, 2008 at 08:40 PM
Hello America.. When did we stop casting our vote for the candidate that we believe in? I am one of the 16% of highly educated in the State and I voted for Hillary. It is our job to vote our indiviual beliefs not the party's beliefs. I can only vote to let the party know whom I want as my candidate. As far as the numbers? You people need a history lesson. How about 13 small colonies battling a enormous British Army? I am sure the "numbers" were against us.

Why should the people in WV vote for someone they know isn't the right person to be President just because too many idiots from other states have voted for Obama? Good luck to this country if he's elected because GOD know's we'll need it.

Posted by: Zach Brewer on May 13, 2008 at 07:53 PM
i think no matter how how hillery much she tries Obama is going to win because he is more determind and deticated than any other canidate up there because hillery is stuck up and Mc. Cain is to old. But anyway i think she is just in the election for the fame and mc. cain is to aged for this whole thing and I think the west virginia election obama should have one they riged that election becasue they just dont want a black president. But Barrack Obama is the better president than the other to.
