CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man from Kanawha County will spend up to 15 years in prison for slashing another man's throat.

A judge sentenced Jeffrey Arthur Thursday to 3 to 15 years. He will get credit for the 453 days he's already served.

Arthur pleaded guilty to attempted first degree murder last month.

Police say Arthur was trying to rob Timothy Lester when he cut his throat. The crime happened in November 2006 at an apartment complex at West Minister Way in Charleston.

Timothy was able to walk to a nearby 7-11 for help.

During Arthur's sentencing, he apologized to the victim.

Since all of most working class people have to take drug tests to get a job and to keep a job, why doesn't people that are on welfare have to take drug tests in order to apply and to keep their free living, food, clothing and ect. I bet that over 1/2 of the people that are on welfare are on drugs and or dealing thats why they can't afford to buy their own food, clothing & housing they would rather spend their $ on drugs, pay cash for new cars, gold jewelry and loud stereos why should us working class people have to support their habits. When we can barely afford the cost of our own living expenses. This really gets under my skin. think about it.

The guy could be out in a couple of years? I would think that slitting a persons throat would get you more time than that.

well i would HOPE so! now if they don't let him out like they are all over the country b/c jails are "overcrowded". correct me if I'm wrong, but they're not supposed to be in luxury hotels or country clubs are they? so they're overcrowded, big deal. i'm so sorry for their discomfort. their victims are usually dead or in physical, emotional and/or mental anguish the rest of their lives as well as their families so i'm SO sorry the criminals are in "discomfort" let him do his time. and so he apologized to his victim..wow! that makes up for the fear and pain he caused him. could have taken his life just as well. all they apologize to their victims for is to try and sway the jury and/or judge to give them lesser time and save THEIR own necks which is all that matters to them, give us a break I wish Mr. Lester well & hope he has recovered from his terrible injury. He'll have to carry the memories of this act & this "man" the rest of his life.
