SALYERSVILLE, KY (WSAZ)-- An 8-month undercover investigation into illegal drug trafficking in Magoffin County has resulted in arrest warrants for 21 individuals on 45 charges.

Accoring to a press release, Operation UNITE detectives, with the assistance from the Magoffin County Sheriff¹s Office, began serving the indictment warrants on Monday

As of Thursday afternoon, 14 of the suspects had been located.

Late Wednesday morning officers happened upon a large indoor moonshine still at a house on Roanne Road in a remote section of southern Magoffin County.

According to the release, UNITE detectives and sheriff¹s deputies went to the home of 42-year-old Edison Porter to serve a warrant for trafficking in marijuana.

They say Porter apparently spotted the officers approach and fled out the back door of an outbuilding, which housed the still.

Inside the shed police discovered eight one-gallon jugs and 50 quart jars filled with moonshine, large tank being heated with a propane burner, four barrels of sour mash, and bags of corn, rye, yeast and other supplies.

Porter was arrested Thursday after turning himself in to authorities.

In addition, on Tuesday, police arrested two Lawrence County men while attempting to serve a warrant at a residence on Flynt Branch. Police recovered approximately 200 Oxycodone pills and 100 Xanax bars from one of these subjects.

Arrested as part of the investigation were:

€ David Arnett, age 41, of State Route 40, Salyersville, three counts of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (second offense), and second-degree persistent felony offender.

€ Creed Edward Arnett, age 33, of River Road, Salyersville, four counts of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

Hmmm, it's amazing how they go after a moonshiner for making spirits, yet you can go to the state sponsered liquor stores and buy the same thing. Oh yeah, I forgot. The state makes no money from moonshine sales.

Has anyone thought about leaving these people alone? I read the news and none of'm were kids, adults should do whatsoever they want as long as they harm no one but themselves, not a popular view I know. Most of us r 2 young 2 remember d mob, but d FACT is that prohibition made them, as long as they arent selling/using 2 kids let'm be. where i live their have been a many a reveneur left behind a stump,UNITE is probably corrupt they obviously havent ran n2 a REAL criminal, the police get paid and r trained 2 deal with REAL bad guys, b4 it is over they will b investigating UNITE, the police r just doing their jobs but UNITE has its own agendas d police have some respect from criminals but UNITE has none and someday someone is gonna get killed or get their families killed,no one respects a snitch. I 4 1 think all drugs should b legal if 1 is dumb enough 2 kill themself then let'm doit, drugs/alchohol r bad no doubt, but it is an individual choice to use or not,I say no my choice

Wonder if that moonshine still will end up at a local flea market for sale? Might be a good investment for someone from Carter County...they could make it for years without getting caught....LMAO

I am from Magoffin Co. I had enough intelligence about myself to realize I could spread my wings and fly. I knew life would only be beautiful if I made it that way for myself. I went to school with Mr. Porter. I don't think he graduated. With lack of education how can we expect much more? I would almost bet he met his aspirations, Goverment Aid. S.S.I. or whatever...
