PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (WSAZ)-- New information on the cause and manner of death for the Portsmouth Ohio man who killed himself after storming his ex-wife’s classroom and attacking her.

The Scioto County Corner, Terry Johnson says William Michael Layne died of a close contact shotgun blast to the head

Dr. Johnson also says Mr. Layne had a number of drugs in his system when he died

The incident happened back in February. Police say that Mr. Layne first went to a house where he stabbed Stephanie Loop multiple times. She survived that attack.

They say he then went to Notre Dame Elementary and stabbed his estranged wife, Christy Layne in front of her 5th grade class. She also survived the attack.

Officers say Mr .Layne then fled to his house where there was a stand-off with police. Several hours later, he was found dead inside the house.
