SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A big wreck caused I-64 West in Kanawha County to be shut down for about an hour Monday evening.

9-1-1 dispatchers say the wreck involved at least four cars and happened around 5:15 near the MacCorkle Avenue exit in South Charleston. Only one person was taken to the hospital. The westbound lanes of I-64 had to be shut down until after 6:00.

But not long after the interstate re-opened, dispatchers say another accident in the same area slowed things down again. There were no injuries, but it did cause another traffic slowdown Monday evening.

One of those people in the wreck was my mom and I know she doesn't speed. She is in the hospital with alot of broken bones.

If people wouldn't be flying on I-64 doing 90mph in a 70mph zone while talking on their cell phones a lot of accidents would not happen. I've almost been hit too many times because of excessive speed and people gabbing away on the phone.

This accident involved 7 cars. 1 possibly 2 people went to the hospital. 1 person was hurt VERY bad w/ head injuries after her car was crumpled in the middle of all the cars. I was one of only 2 passer-bys that stopped to help. And my heart went out to these people. I'm very glad that there were only a few people injured but the one injury was very severe. People need to be more respectful and slow down and pay attention to the road. My prayers are with these families
