IRONTON, Ohio (WSAZ)--Two high school teachers, from different schools, in the same county now face very similar charges of having inappropriate sexual contact with students.

Prosecutors say 37-year old Scott Jones, the band director at Rock Hill High School, had consensual but inappropriate sexual contact at different times with two female students: ages 15 and 17.

The complaints against Scott Jones say the sexual contact with the two teenage girls happened numerous times at various locations here on Rock Hill school property

Jones arraignment was packed with band parents and former students who say the sex charge is not in the music teacher’s nature or character.

Sara Tackett is a former student: “He was never alone with a student, no touching or hugging that I saw.”

Jones attorney says his client is now on administrative leave with pay. Derrick Fisher also says his client is shocked by the felony sexual battery charges and is completely innocent.

But prosecutors say a detailed investigation found good reasons to file sex charges against Scott Jones.

Mack Anderson is a Lawrence County Prosecutor: “Interviews we had with witnesses, with the accusers, other information - and an interview with the defendant.”

Prosecutors say Chesapeake High math teacher Donald Clark Jr had consensual but illegal sex with a 16 year old student.

Fisher also represents Mr. Clark. He says he just got that case so it's too soon to comment.

Both men were arrested last Friday. Both were ordered to have no contact with the alleged victims or their families.

Both men are out of jail on 50,000 bond.

We’re told Clark resigned from his job last week.

Well, one of the girls has dropped her charges...let's see if the other little liar does the same or continues to ruin Mr. Jones' career and her reputation.

As a former student of Scott, I've always considered him to be one of the best, most professional educators in this area. Get a statement by an expert before you point your ignorant fingers and call somebody a "Typical Pedophile" That's vague and the last thing this forum needs. Have the professional make that statement. How many young educators would fit that mold that you have fabricated? Drop it. I hope this goes to unbiased jury that doesn't read thiI also know him well enough to admit he was CHARISMATIC...not devious or predatory. He was admired on more than a "Respectable" level from many of his students. He couldn't help that. It was only a matter of time for this to happen. One or the other occured. He is innocent or guilty. We are not Child Predator experts, nor did we witness anything. When I was young, I lied often to get what I wanted. Fact: An established christian man with endless credibility and character references might be locked up by 2 Possible liars.

Did this Mr.Clark have a wife or kids? Someone already answered about Mr.Jones.

Sorry Concerned. It's a bit confusing the way people are posting there responses to others comments. I wish that people could have a name and then address the comment inside the comment section. Ya know? Sorry once again because we both seem to be in agreement on this issue.

Anyone notice that he has already changed lawyers? I also found it interesting that he refused the right to a preliminary hearing which could have preempted the grand jury. Does anyone know the date for that hearing?

Former Teenage girl, You are replying to the wrong person!! You are replying to someone's comment back to me. I in no way believe this man is innocent. I believe that something definitely occurred for two different girls to accuse this man. Anyway, No matter how much we try to teach our children, this happens in schools. I would like to be naive like some of you and believe that our children are safe. I, however, can not feel that way with things like this going on in our schools. Pretending it did not happen doesn't make it go away and there is a reason we find IGNORe in ignorance. I don't care how you think these girls acted around him or what you think they are capable of doing... He is a GROWN MAN that our school entrusted to protect our children and he, instead, molested them. I'll agree with Portsmouth that children sometimes lie, but I also say that adults have been known to tell a few. I guess we'll see what happens soon enough. Once again, my prayers are with all concerned

I am a sixth grade band student and a firm believer that Mr.Scott Jones is innocent in any and all ways! He has never ever even touched a student during or after class. He is a very loving man and he would never do such a thing. I would like to hear more about the "so called" evidence.

Posted by: bonnie on May 30, 2008 at 03:14 PM
This is very disturbing. What is happening in our schools? Who is there to protect our kids? The law says we send them to school and then they are molested by the teachers. I know the article says it was consensual, but the last time I checked it was called statutory rape. The girls are not of age to consent. Something needs to be done.

How sad you feel your child would fall "victim" to this. I am extremely confident that I have enabled all 3 of my children with the ability to say NO to an authority figure when it came to SEX WITH THEM!! If the girls had been younger (7,8, etc.) then maybe not. However by the age of 14-15 and especially 16 girls KNOW BETTER !!! Teen girls can sometimes be WICKED... trust me, I used to be one!!...Mom always told me to watch saying things like this....

To Concerned, you might have been wicked, and able to stand up for yourself, but that doesn't mean that this is what happened in this situation. Look up the definition of sexual battery in the OHIO state code. Any teacher or coach in a position of authority having sex with ANY child under 18 is legally wrong. To me it's also morally wrong. Scott Jones was married w/4 newly adopted kids at home. At least 1 was older than the girls he is accused of messing with. Jones fits the profile of a classic pedophile to a T. I don't know if he did it, but if he so much as kissed one of these girls he should be fired. Any CHILD that attends the school should be off limits. Whether they are 13-19 years old. Not everyone is as on top of their parenting roles as they should be. Even if they were, sometimes kids don't know how to say no. So to you Concerned, it very well COULD have happened. Let's just see what the evidence shows first.

It is no surprise that John Wayne Gacy, Jr. was admired and liked by most who had known him. He was a sharp businessman who had spent his time, when not building up his contracting company, hosting elaborate street parties for friends and neighbors, dressing as a clown and entertaining children at local hospitals and immersing himself in organizations such as the Jaycees, working to make his community a better place to live. People who knew Gacy thought of him as a generous, friendly and hard-working man, devoted to his family and community. However, there was another side to Gacy that few had ever witnessed..EXCHANGE GACY TO JONES AND UNDERSTAND HOW BLIND WE CAN BE! MANY WERE AND ARE "OBSESSED" BY JONES AND HE VIOLATED THAT TRUST AND OBSESSION BY NOT ONLY "RAPING" THE CHILD BUT "RAPING" THE PARENTS, TOO! THANK GOD, YOU AND YOURS WEREN'T HIS CHOSEN OBJECTS OF ABUSE!!

I had a friend in high school who had a die hard crush on one of our teachers. She conjured up some story about how they had had sex in the staff room. Well we all know how teenagers can be so it did not take long for this rumor, which was actually just some fantasy she wanted to say out loud,to get all over the whole school. They had to bring in a counselor and ask everyone questions it was crazy. I still remember talking to the counselor and being so nervous I just told the truth and that is all I could do. No charges were evr brought against this teacher but I am sure he was tainted forever afterwards. He quit teaching not to long after the incident, and it was a shame he was a good teacher. I am still close to her in our adult lives and every once in a while she will say how stupid the whole incident was and that she is sorry. Teenage girls are capable of anything, but so are horny men so who knows! As my mama always says it will all come out in the wash!

This might give some insight to the numerous encounters as well: Grooming is a process of desensitization that predators use on children to prepare and trick them into accepting sexual abuse. Once the predator has gained the child's trust and confidence, they use everyday behaviours, like telling an inappropriate joke, a touch on the upper arm that lingers a little too long or a kiss on the lips to test whether your child is likely to tell on them. If the perpetrator is satisfied that your child won't tell, the predator moves onto other forms of bad touching. If the child still doesn't tell, then the abuse continues along the continuum of abuse from non contact, to contact and often ending with penetration and sometimes even homicide.

I know Scott Jones and I know the "victims." No one can judge him until you see how those girls were around him. They were completely obsessed with him. I know Scott Jones is innocent. Now the only thing that we can wait for is the courts to figure it out that he is.

Posted by: BandTripConcern on May 23, 2008 at 12:25 AM
In a book “Protecting Your Children From Sexual Predators” Linda Barker writes, “Because predators during their early encounters with a victim can often be extremely charming, likable and attentive, they may initially appear to be empathetic. Child molesters are experts in feigning empathy in order to get close to potential victims and their families. The will know just what children need and how to interact with them in order to gain trust and friendship. They are also likely to spend a great deal of time getting close to the parents of their victims so that they eventually can have full access to their children.

Why does Ohio have sexual predator registration laws? Answer, because they ARE out there and they do exist. This is real people. As of May 2007 there were 15,716 registered in Ohio alone. Scott Jones is innocent until proven guilty, however for you IDIOTS to say anything negative about these two girls is really ridiculous. Jones knows the answer, He knows what he did. I hope he hangs himself. Then he and the good lord can work it out.

Posted by: Concerned Citizen replies on May 22, 2008 at 10:44 PM
I call them innocent because they are children. Do you have children? I would guess not. A man 3 times their age had sexual conduct with them, regardless of whether consensual or whatever. They are CHILDREN. I don't know many children who would not be able to tell someone in a position of authority no or to stand up for themselves while society turns their backs on them (as these girls are doing). I pray daily for these girls. To those who continue to praise Mr, Jones, the girls also come from good families and have good backgrounds. Evidence doesn't lie, so let's hope the courts convict.

Posted by: Bpeter on May 22, 2008 at 04:03 PM
How about you all back off the teacher & the girls & leave the matter to the courts to decide. I don't know the man or the girls but this is america a person is suppose to be innocent until proven guilty & given the right to cross examine witnesses accusers & evidence before making a decision. Obviously if or what really happened is only known by the teacher Mr. Jones & the suppose girls. Who's to say the girls didn't make it up to get out of trouble or who's to say the teacher was the one who instigated the alleged events. Obviously it is troubleing to think teachers would abuse their position on purpose or by "accident" but again this is the land where we are all suppose to be given the benefit of the doubt & allow to state our side of a story. Not just when its you at the defense table is it suppose work where you're innocent until proven guilty even in horrible crimes like rape or murder. Leave it to the judge & jury to decide. Both sides have a right to tell their stories.

He should be punished (if he is found guilty) in the same manner they punish female teachers when they do this to little boys.

Posted by: To Concerned Citizen: on May 22, 2008 at 12:45 PM
These girls were sleeping with their teachers (or so it has been charged). Therefore, I don't think they should be called "innocent".

Posted by: Nadine on May 22, 2008 at 12:40 PM
I want to know what is wrong with these young girls that they would even consider a sexual relationship with a teacher anyways?? I'm not defending the accused here, but from what I've read, it's not being called rape. Talk to your children people!! Get involved!! There are always going to be "teachers" like this so help your children by TEACHING THEM VALUES!!!

Posted by: BandTripConcern on May 22, 2008 at 11:53 AM
If any of these events happened out of the state on a band, PERVERT Jones will face FEDERAL charges! I heard that there's MORE EVIDENCE AGAINST him and there will be no hearing but will proceed directly to trial? Have any of you heard that yet? I'll leave his punishment to the BIG BAD BOYS and we'll see how well he'll manipulate people his own physical, mental and emotional size!

Posted by: Eli on May 22, 2008 at 11:49 AM
Mr. Jones is gonna be on the flip side of the game when he goes to prison. I bet being a band leader comes in handy when he's playin the old meat horn.

Yes, children lie, but how do we decide which children are dishonest? Our country has a system in place and we need to let that system do its job. Yes, sometimes children lie and sometimes people we trust betray us.

OKAY! I have read this stuff enough! You people CRACK ME UP! I do not know this Mr. Jones, but I work in one of the Rock Hill Schools - I do pray for his wife and children, along with the girls that filed these charges! You all think just because he is a GREAT man, goes to church and adopts children, he would never do such a thing! Let me tell you something. I have known a couple really GREAT men that were big in the church and sang and were choir directors and deacons of a church, and BAM got caught with their own grandchildren - WOW talk about surprised, but never did anyone call these little girls that said it happened liars! If he would take his shirt off his back for you who's to say he wouldn't take his pants down for you either??

to those of you that believe he is guilty... do you really trust an investigation by Lawrence county?? They see things how they want, from what I understand this indepth investigation only lasted two days! We have THE MOST corrupt law enforecement and judicial system in the state, and that is a statement that I can support with facts. In fact its so bad that I am soon moving from the county, I just don't see them running any investigation professionally. Saddly the Sheriffs office and their incometence will serve as the jury in these two cases. If the deputies think they are guilty they will make the evidence.

Posted by: student on May 21, 2008 at 06:54 PM
as a former student of chesapeake high school this issue really is disturbing to me and i do not agree that jr should ever teach again because this hasnt only happened with one student. but i do not agree that he should be punished. THIS GIRLS PARENTS KNEW THEY WERE TOGETHER AND IT WAS VERY MUCH CONSENSUAL. the only thing that should be done in this matter is he should lose his certification as a teacher and not be able to teach around younger female students again. just for the fact as a teacher students look up to you and that doesnt set a good example at all.

Posted by: Concerned Citizen on May 21, 2008 at 06:51 PM
Many of these comments make me sick. There was enough evidence in two, separate, distinct allegations to arrest Scott Jones!! Something has to be wrong here. Many of your comments condemn the girls, but how about the teacher taking advantage of his position to further his sexual impulses with minors. Some of you "couldn't see" him doing something like this, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen and that it won't happen again if we continue to push these incidents out of our minds. We are telling pedophiles it is alright to hurt our children and our CHILDREN (INNOCENT CHILDREN) it isn't alright to stand up for yourselves. Minors can NOT consent under law and this man is sick. I wouldn't be shocked if more come forward. Many molesters can't stop, even if the they know it could ruins their lives. Should we ignore that and the lives he has ruined? I think not. To those who praise him and his innocence, some of the most charming individuals in society commit the worst crimes. STOP SCOTT!!

Posted by: student on May 21, 2008 at 06:29 PM
If you don't know Scott Jones and are saying that he is guilty you should really stay out of it! He is a good man and one of the best teachers I have ever had in my life, its not often that kids are so lucky to have a teacher that truely cares about them. He never conducted himself in any way other then professional and christianly. Maybe we should look at the character of the "victims", they on the other hand are prone to foul language, conversations containing inappropriate sexual subjects and are known to be sexually infatuated with Jones. Has anyone stopped to think that perhaps Jones is the victim of these two young women who are fustrated that he is a married man? Jones has too much to loose, his wife, his children, his home and the foundation of his entire life, I KNOW that he would not throw that away. God Have mercy on those girls when they have to go before The Almighty.

It seems the schools are no longer safe anymore even the officials. Mr. Clark was a new teacher and he had a carrer ahead of him but now its ended.

I am a parent of a Rock Hill Band student, and the effect on these kids by all the comments is unbelievable. We are proud of our school, our teachers and other staff, and I believe people need to remember that opinions are like noses and everyone has one some just put them in where they do not belong. I have asked my child to refrain from making comments at school, because once words are spoken they cannot be taken back and usually they are never forgotten. These kids are hurting and they also need our prayers and support not to hear how bad there band director was and how awful our school district is. I support Mr. Jones, I believe he is a good person, but I will not make rude and degrading remarks about the girls either. Everything will come out one way or another in court and all sides need to be remembered in prayer not trashed by most people who really don't know any of the parties involved. So to the fellow band students and parents, remember we are THE PRIDE OF LAWRENCE COUNTY.

I strongly believe Mr. Jones could never do this to any young girl. I hate when people accuse Mr. Jones of sexual battery when they do not even know the man! I have been around him since i was in grade school and he has never showed any sexual interaction with girls, not even flirting! Mr. jones would give you the shirt off his back if he could and he has done many great things for students in the band/show choir. I know these girls who are accusing him b/c i have classes with them and they have done things in the past that lead me to believe they are not telling the truth. Oh, if we let the courts decide no justice will be brought b/c the court system is CROOKED in Lawrence County.

Again it happens...another one of our music teachers' arrested. My thoughts go out to the victims in this matter. Yet again, we see those coming in support of this man. Just because YOU never saw him do anything doesn't mean he didn't. Yes, innocent until proven guilty, but this is the same ol' story...

Posted by: Lee on May 21, 2008 at 11:57 AM
There are plenty of men or women who have inappropriate sexual relationships with others that are married, have children and were thought of as pillars of the community. They know what is at stake. The thoughts of losing their families has to occur to them. The position these men have as teachers gives them the opportunity to prey on victims who are vulnerable to such inapproiate advances. Yes men with families do cheat and I don't think they really care if they lose their wife and children in the process. I think it makes them feel young again. That is pitiful.

Can some of you NOT read? These two cases are completely different! Clark had a RELATIONSHIP! Jones was married, with children, and accused of this. There's a slight difference. I hope if Jones is innocent, it is proven.

To Rock hill student, Even if the girls were willing, he is a TEACHER, just because he could doesn't mean he should. He is is an adult and supposed to have some self control. This is why some kids don't report things that happen because they are afraid people won't believe them. he may be innocent, but don't put all the blame on the girls.

Posted by: Finally decided on May 21, 2008 at 11:07 AM
I couldn't decide at first who to defend. Jones is an upstanding man, but I know both of the girls. They are good girls. The more I hear about the evidence behind this, the more I see that the girls are being wrongfully called liars. 1) If they are doing it for attention, then all they are getting is defamed. Both girls attend church and one is top of her class. This would be a terrible embarassment for them. 2) If there was NO evidence against him, Jones wouldn't have had to spend a couple days in a jail cell and an orange getup. 3) Those girls were absolutely DEVOTED to him, along with everyone in the band. 4) Everyone has seen him hugging students. Period. People who are saying they never even saw him hug one is sorely mistaken. 5) He matches the definition of a typical pedophile. Before you cast stones at the girls just remember that everyone is human. Jones could be innocent, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if he is not. We'll find out soon enough. Keep strong girls!

Each side deserves to be heard. It would be difficult for two teenager girls to create enough evidence for an arrest, let alone a conviction. If he is innocent the facts are on his side, if he is guilty the evidence will convict. Thank you Just a Thought, your comments shed light on the subject.

Dear Roxann Hall, I'll tell you where the parents of these two girls have been. They have been going going to work and taking care of their much loved daughters(as I'm sure you did when your daughter was in high school)secure in the knowledge that when they dropped their daughters off at school each morning they were safe in the hands of a man that they considered to be a close and trusted friend of the family. Would you suspect that someone you thought to be a close and valued friend was using his friendship with you to get inappropriately close to your extremely young daughter? I don't think so. But that's exactly what he did. Scott Jones fooled them and a lot of other people, including myself. We only saw the Scott he wanted us to see. Don't be so quick to blame the parents either. The truth will come out, and those of you that have been so quick to leap to Scott's defense will see what fools he's made of all of us.

ANYTIME a teacher is charged with something like this thay should automaticly be dismissed from their job.and if found guilty then thay should have to pay the price of time in prison just as anyone elis would have to.this is something that we cant afford favertisom to anyone like i have heard posted here.apparently there was something there that the officails seen or there would not be charges brought againest them.so it sounds like the fun is over and it is time to pay the fiddler.i wish them the best but if guilty then thay should get what thay deserve.

What if these little girls lied? We are ruinning lives here. I was abused and I still understand that sometimes girls and boys lie for diffrent reasons. If they are guilty they deserve everything they get and more. If they never did anyhting I feel that the girls desreve some kind of punishment for the lies. These men guilty or not will always have to deal with this!

To all of those Jones supporters who claim to have been around him with their children and he never showed any signs of inappropriate behavior. Do you really think that HE WOULD while you were there to witness it? I'm not saying he did do what he's allegedly charged with. It just blows my mind that people seem incredulous to the fact that things and people are not always as they seem. Maybe he simply wasn't attracted to YOUR children. Maybe your children were too wise to be manipulated and therefore he didn't show any signs to them. So many possible reasons why he COULD have done these alleged crimes. The more intelligent a person, the better they are at hiding the truth. Would anyone really want to believe that the scandals of the Catholic Priests sexually abusing altar boys really happened? Things to think about...

there are just some people in this world that need to get help at time like this.....but know they wait until the last minute after it is too late .and get in deeper trouble than they really want, thats when they should think before they do.

half of you guys talking about him do not even know him,so don't judge him, mr. jones doesn't even act like he would do anything of that sort, not even to the girls it supposedly happened with,he has been nothing but a good friend and band director to all of the students in band, he is like a second father to all of us, so tell me how you can judge people like that when you don't even know them,he wouldn't do something like that,he is a recent father of four and he is MARRIED! why would he put everything in his life in jepeordy like this,he wouldn't!andeveryone has their one opinions,i do not hate the people that think this did happen,it very easily could have, but me and alot of other people do not believe this, and if we get proved wrong then i guess we do, but for now we believe what we want and that is that it's NOT true, and even if this did happen,DO NOT feel sorry for these girls because they were willing to do it,it's not like he forced them to,they are to blame just as much as him!

I find it highly unbelievable that Scott Jones done anything of the sort. Mr Jones was the Band Director at East High School and my daughter was a member of the band during the whole time!! At NO TIME did Scott Jones show any inapproriate behavior!! When we went on trips to Fla/ Indiana for State Band Comp. there were ALWAYS lots of parental supervision including me and my deceased husband!! Just because the Childrens Services and the alleged defendants are saying these things happened the Sheriffs Dept Has to do something BUT UNTIL, HE IS INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY. DON"T CRUCIFY MR SCOTT JONES UNTIL THE FINALIZATION OF COURT HEARING!!! UNLESS YOU KNOW MR JONES..PLEASE DON'T JUMP TO ANY CONCLUSIONS!!!! AND ALSO WHERE HAVE THE PARENTS OF THESE ROCK HILL STUDENTS BEEN???

Posted by: Krystal Hall Bailey on May 20, 2008 at 03:15 PM
As a former student of Mr. Jones I can Honestly say the years he was our director there was never times that any inappropriate situations happened. There was always Parents around. Where were the parents at Rock Hill???? REMEMBER HE IS INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY... DON'T CRUCIFY HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!

It makes me absolutely and completely saddened to see Scott Jones in a state issued jumpsuit. How ridiculous is this? This is so scary that accusations can be made and opinions turn into facts. Let's think about history...Salem Witchcraft Trials and McMartin Pre-School Trials!!! Interesting! However, this man's life is already forever changed!!!

Posted by: DISGUSTED on May 20, 2008 at 12:26 PM
Watch the video carefully. It says the sheriff and children services investigation, statements from dif people and AN INTERVIEW WITH THE DEFENDENT led to his arrest. Has he incriminated himself? Sure does sound like it to me. He may excel at playing and conducting music, but he CAN'T manipulate interrogators. As a mother of two Rock Hill students, I am completely disgusted with this case. IF this man is guilty, I hope he receives the maximum punishment for his actions. Afterall, he has fooled and deceived A LOT of people.

High School is full of drama. Students will do anything to get back at one another, even if it does involve something illegal, like this case. Mr.Clark is not guilty, and it can should not be held against him for rumors that go about the school.

This is happening all over the country. Go to www.schoolteachernews.com and click on the Scandal page. They have documented over 210 of these types of incidents since just the beginning of 2008.
