CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Southern Skyways will resume its flights from Yeager Airport to Myrtle Beach next month.

However, the flights to Orlando will never get off the ground.

The company sent Yeager Airport a letter Tuesday stating it was canceling the Orlando Flights due to the extremely high cost of jet fuel.

We're told Southern Skyways will refund all of its customers.

However, the first Myrtle Beach flight is now set for June 7th.

That's a few weeks later than the company first announced. The first flight was set for Thursday, May 22, but the company had to push it back.

A spokesperson at Yeager Airport says the company made the decision a few weeks ago so it could finish inspecting all of its planes.

Brian Belcher says the Myrtle Beach flights are selling very well.

Southern Skyways offers the trips to Myrtle Beach only during the summer months. This is the second year for the flights.

Hope Kent Carper has to walk to Orlando. WV got set back another 30 years by not pursuing a regional airport. With the gas prices and airfares, Yeager is going to lose even more flights.

Kanawha Valley Folks, Come on down to Tri-State Airport. Allegiant Air offers plenty of summer flights between Huntington and Orlando-Sanford and, unlike Southern Skyways, Allegiant is a stable operation offering great service at a low price. Tri-State is flourishing while Yeager struggles--Find out why?

Is there ever any of these bargain flights out of Charleston that actually make it to reality, the airport always makes a big deal when announcing them but it seems like they never actually happen. The flights are always cancelled.

Yeah, The flights to Myrtle Beach are great IF the airline follows through with them. They've cancelled all these flights to Orlando even though many customers had already booked them. The article says they are offering refunds but people are still stuck with either cancelling their travel plans or booking another, possibly more expensive, flight.

I had already had a flight booked with Southern Skyways from Yeager to Orlando. I'm sue many other people did as well. They are cancelling all of these flights even though people have already booked them. I had to book last night with another airline. The new flight is going to cost me $200 more. WHAT A SHAME!!! I am aggravated but already have tickets, reservations, etc. in Florida so I needed another flight.

Let's see, less gas purchased, less vehicles on the road, less damage to the roads, less $ needed to repair...doesn't take much brains to figure this out. Maybe the politicians are looking at their next 20-30% pay raise instead of looking out for their citizens! Besides, aren't we supposed to cut down on gas usage to lower the overall demand? Give the public a break!

Was anyone able to get the flight for the advertised $79? When I booked mine two months ago, I was told those seats had already sold out. I paid $105 plus alot of fees. It still beats the long drive!
