RICHWOOD, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Richwood Area Community Hospital is set to close next month, but city leaders are still trying to make sure the community has some health care options.

Several city leaders are planning to meet Tuesday night to discuss the future of health care in Richwood.

The meeting starts at 6:30pm at Richwood City Hall.

A doctor at the hospital says there is also a town hall meeting set for next week. He says that's when the community can give its input.
That meeting is set for Tuesday night at 6:00pm at Richwood High School.

The hospital is set to close June 27th. More than a hundred people are expected to lose their jobs.

The hospital board member says the hospital has been in a financial crisis for years.

Best of luck to you, Mike. I think application depends on whether or not the feds have a service area competition open or not. Some net searching should help you figure it out. If not PHS, then perhaps a state or private source?

I dont know if these funds have been applied for. An area needs an MUA rating of 62 or lower to be eligible for these grants. Nicholas county has a rating of 55.6 so it should be eligible. I will pass along your suggestion to the group. Also for everyone that is interested the town hall meeting is in city hall on the second floor, not at the high school as was reported.

I mentioned this in a comment when the story first broke - why not pursue PHS 330 funding to establish a FQHC? Not sure if it would save the hospital, but it would significantly reduce operating costs for whomever takes on a new facility. Best of luck.
