ST. ALBANS, WV. (AP) - A two-day conference this summer will
honor two of West Virginia's legendary creatures - Mothman and the
Flatwoods Monster.

The event is scheduled for Sept. 12-13 at the Alban Art Conference Center in St. Albans.

Several authors are among the scheduled speakers at the conference, along with Jeff Wamsley, curator of the Mothman Museum in Point Pleasant.

Mothman was the subject of numerous sightings in the Point Pleasant area for about a year beginning in November 1966.

Witnesses described a giant, winged creature with glowing red eyes.
The beast has been chronicled in books and a 2002 film.

A group of adults and youths reported seeing a 12-foot-tall metallic oddity that smelled of sulfur near Flatwoods on September 12, 1952.
