HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) - Health care is still an issue in contract talks between Huntington and three unions representing city employees as a June 30 deadline approaches.

On Friday, the unions rejected the city's latest health insurance offer. Under the proposal, the monthly premium for a single worker would jump from $12 to $73.60. Family coverage would increase from $25 to $153.14.

International Association of Firefighters Local 289 vice president John Angle says the proposal would be catastrophic for workers.

Mayor David Felinton says the increases are needed to pay for health insurance costs.

Contracts with unions representing firefighters, police and other city workers expire July 1.

OH BOO HOO!!! It's about time the city workers get in the real life! I make a whole lot less than they do and work 100% harder than they do and I have to pay a heck of lot more for health insurance than this. Let them see what it feels like to have money taken out of their pocket like this city is doing to us. If the city would ever figure out how to quit being so stupid and get someone to collect the back taxes that would take a load off everyone. Get a mall downtown or a Wal-Mart, even a drug store would be nice downtown, even a dollar store - oh wait that was tried and because of high taxes that shut their doors!

if our police and firefighters have to pay more for health ins then the city will have to give them a raise in pay..they have forgone raises in the past for ins and the city gov knows this...the public needs to be aware that what the firefighters and police have given up to put their lives on the line for us
