CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Recommended time limits for new school bus routes must now be included in state Board of Education policy.
Under the policy that took effect Tuesday, recommended one-way travel times would be less than 30 minutes for elementary students, 45 minutes for middle-school students and less than an hour for high school students.
The law only applies to future routes prompted by new or consolidated schools or closings. Counties would need the state's approval for such routes that would last at least 15 minutes longer. But it would bar such waivers for routes exceeding the standard by 30 or more minutes.
