SOUTH POINT, Oh (WSAZ) -- Thousands of barbeque grills will be cooking across the area this Fourth of July holiday weekend, but one grill is actually to blame for a multi-car pile up Thursday afternoon.

It happened on US 52 just east of South Point around 3:30 pm.

The accident closed the westbound lanes of the highway for about an hour while crews cleaned up the mess.

Firefighters say an unsecured grill fell out of the back of a pickup truck. It broke up into several pieces causing the traffic behind the truck to weave and try and miss the grill. That set off a string of accidents along the highway.

One person was taken to the hospital, but their injuries did not appear to be life threatening.

I AM STILL WAITING ON MY HAMBUGER?

Posted by: Pay Attention !! on Jul 8, 2008 at 07:33 PM
So if cars are stopped on the roadway and you barrel into the back of the last stopped one, it's the first person in line who is at fault? I don't think so. A)the grill didn't break, just came loose and the guys were trying to get it secured again B) the other 2 cars managed to get stopped and not plow into anyone because they were paying attention C) NOT THE GRILL'S FAULT!! If people would get off their cell phones, have valid driver's licenses and pay attention, these things would happen less frequently. What if this would have been a crash? or a broken down car that couldn't get off the road? Are you going to blame them? Point is, watch what you're doing. Hey Pablo - so if you're ever stopped in the road and get slammed in the rear - I hope you get a ticket for impeding traffic.

HEY PABLO, READ THE ARTICLE. THE ACCIDENT TOOK PLACE IN OHIO WHERE EVERYONE GETS TICKETS! "HI", YOUR CORRECT, YOU SHOULD KEEP ENOUGH SPACE AHEAD OF YOU TO AVOID ANYTHING THAT MAY HAPPEN TO APPEAR IN YOUR LANE; TREE, ANIMAL, PERSON, STOPPING CAR AND EVEN A GRILL.

Just to let you know the guy with the grill was told to go on, he will not be cited. But the next time it happens I hope he pulls over to the side of the road and not stop in the middle of the highway. The driver of the red truck was my brother in law.

This is called injury & or destruction of property due to negligence.

IT WAS NOT ME?

The funny thing is, I came by there when they were putting the grill back up into the truck after it had fell out, and it was in one piece. The wrecks happened after that.I say blame the wreckless people driving.

I too hope the driver of the vehicle with the unsecure load is not only cited, but his insurance should pay for all the damage. But, after reading about the lady who went left of center last week in Kanawha County, and hit a motorcycle head on, and didn't receive a citation, I doubt if this person will be cited either. But this holiday weekend several will be given citations because of not wearing thier seat belts. Don't wear a seat belt, even though no one is hurt and you'll be given a citation. Cause an crash or crashes, put people in the hospital, and nothing happens. Only in West Virginia.

I hope the person driving the pickup truck was cited. How stupid.

Ever hear of tying down the load?

Posted by: Rob on Jul 4, 2008 at 01:12 PM
Oh yeah, blame the grill but we all know it was that bad ground beef from Kroger that tossed it from the back of the vehicle! That burger is evil I say!

Bet the grill was bought at WAL MART
