PIKE COUNTY, Ky (WSAZ) -- Her attorney claims she doesn't understand the charges, but the murder case against a woman from Pike County will continue.

Police say Mary Peterson got into a fight with her husband last November, and shot him in the chest with a handgun.

He died on the scene.

Peterson’s attorney says his client was treated at psychiatric center for two months and couldn't really grasp what was going on.

But the judge in the case now says Mrs. Peterson is competent to stand trial on murder charges.

She’ll stay in the pike county detention center until her trial on September 15th.
