SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A 16-year-old girl died in a car accident over the weekend.

State Highway Patrol officers say Ravin Salyers died Saturday night just before midnight.

She crashed her car on State Route 139 near Minford.

Officers say her car slipped off the side of the road and overturned several times.

Salyers died on the scene.

Salyers was a student at Minford High School.
Friends tell WSAZ.Com that she would have been a junior this fall.

I agree.I stayed out until midnight when I was young, I had a wonderful, involved mom and still snuck to do things that I shouldn't do.I was lucky though.I don't know how she grew up, or if her parents were there for her or not. It's just sad that she's gone. But, things happen for a reason, and I know that God can use this tragedy to help others. Maybe that's what her purpose was. It sounds like she was a great girl. Hurtful, judgemental comments can't change what has happened, it's too late. I would suggest that instead of judging why this happened, pray that the family can find peace.

People are out all the time, 24hrs a day in this world. Its summer, no school, and a saturday night as well. Did you all forget what it was like being 16? I was out all the time, If I could get by with it, and maybe we all were lucky this story wasnt about one of us! A teenager coming home at midnight, on a weekend? Sounds resonable to me!

Posted by: alice on Aug 15, 2008 at 07:31 PM
why was the teenager out around midnight to begin with, what is this world coming to when parents stop taking responsibility

Posted by: concerned driver on Aug 13, 2008 at 11:52 AM
ok two teenagers both die in car accident. it is said that the young man was speeding, and the young lady was using her phone, and the time of night for the young lady to be out at night that time at 16 what kind of parent is gonna let that happen. as a driver I'm very concerned over the lack of responsibility that these kids have.

Posted by: ron on Aug 13, 2008 at 09:26 AM
umm why in the world would a parent let a child out at almost midnight, where was the parents, parents these days don't seem to want to be responsibile for there children anymore, makes me sick!

I didn't know Ravin, but she was my cousin Kristen's friend. Kristen feels this loss is her fault somehow and she is not taking it as well as I hoped she would. My prayers go out to the Salyers family and Minford High School and my cousin Kristen, who is like my sister.

The Unanswered 'WHY' They come to us, Blessings from above. We call them family, Give them our love. Throughout our lives, we share good and bad times, Until one day you hear those eternal 'chimes.' It's time to leave, your time here is through. I thank God for letting me borrow you. I can't begin to understand why or how, Why you, why us, why now? I won't begin to say I understand, Only that it's part of God's "Master Plan" God help me to remain feeling somewhat whole, For I feel as though I've lost a big part of my soul. You've gone now to lands truly unknown, I pray you've found your new and glorious home. Claudette Ferguson 5/18/07 My prayers are with this family.

As a mother who has lost a teenager, my compassion and prayers go out to you and your family. May GOD be with you to comfort you at this time and in the future. Reading the comments, I agree with , just worried, maybe the legal age to get a drivers license, should be 17, with permits of at least 6-mo. to 1 yr. It is too easy for them to get their license. This would see to it that they had a little more experience. Again, God Bless and watch over the family.

My prayers go out to the family and friends. This is the second tragic accident in Scioto County this weekend and the third one this month involving teenagers. Please everyone just remind you're kids to be careful when driving, we're losing too many young people too soon.

I can't begin to tell you how saddened we are by this horrible accident. Ravin and Tara were friends all through school. We used to pick Ravin up and take her to games with us when I drove the bus. They were so excited about getting their drivers licenses and driving to school their junior year. Our prayers go out to Ravin's grandparents and parents and all of the class of 2010 at Minford.

This is the second fatal car crash involving a teenage driver that has happened in Scioto County this month. It makes me wonder if maybe there isn't something more we can do to better prepare these kids for the responsibility of driving a car. My thoughts and prayers are with the Salyers and Dunham families. Your kids are resting in the arms of angels now.
