SISSONVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A teenager is in the hospital after she was hit by a SUV.

The accident happened around 1:00 Wednesday morning along Edens Fork Road in Sissonville.

Kanawha County Sheriff's Deputies say the driver of the SUV didn't see Skylar Young and hit her when he was backing out of the driveway.

Skylar is 14 years old. She was taken to CAMC General. A hospital spokesperson tells WSAZ.com she's still in the ICU.

Deputies say no one was at fault in the accident and the driver will not be charged.

why would the teenager not hear the car start or see the back up lights?..i agree the 14 year old shouldnt be out at 1 am.

Posted by: lucy on Jul 25, 2008 at 03:14 PM
I think the driver may be a city cops son. If so, he will not get charged with anything. All the law enforcement stick together.

Posted by: Bev on Jul 25, 2008 at 03:03 PM
Ok, I read the article twice and it's states 4 times that SHE is a SHE. Am I missing something? A lot of comments are saying "HE". Anyway whatever the sex of this child accidents happen. I'm sure this person didn't intend to harm anyone. Hope she/he will be ok.

Posted by: Ari on Jul 25, 2008 at 02:09 PM
becasue in this town most people who are out at 1,2 3 in the morning are the ones up to no good

Posted by: Ron on Jul 25, 2008 at 12:59 PM
Who ever heard of a boy named Skyler? I think all SUV owners should be arrested on the charge of arrogance.

Posted by: MS on Jul 25, 2008 at 09:52 AM
I see where someone said Skylar was on a cell phone. With these phones and I-Pods constantly in these kids ears, how can they hear whats going on around them. Just goes to show that cell phones can be dangerous.

First of all, you hypocritical parents passing judgement need to get the facts straight. Also it is parents like you that end up raising children that become extremely wild, disruptive and end up sneaking out and having behavioral problems. So before passing judgement without knowing these people you self righteous individuals need to worry about raising your own children up right. Try doing a little more praying for this family.

my thoughts and prayers are with all involved. people wise up accidents happen.

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 24, 2008 at 10:59 PM
No Kelly, no one reads the articles. They just scim over the story and then start asking questions later. Oh by the way I love this comment crap. It gets people communicating or in some cases fired up.

Posted by: Kelly on Jul 24, 2008 at 04:38 PM
Did anyone read the story? The comments don't match the facts. It is not anyone's business why the child or the adult was out at 1am. You are second guessing if the driver looked back. Where does it say the parents are being charged? Please understand the article before you post a comment so you don't sound so ridiculous.

Posted by: Soccer on Jul 24, 2008 at 03:55 PM
I agree with "ashamed". Do you people not have anything better to do than to judge people and make comments before you even know the truth. Everyone needs to pray for the child and his family.

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 24, 2008 at 03:42 PM
Good grief, people. Have you never sat outside your house at 1 am? It is the summer after all. Quit casting blame and realize that it was an accident. He was sitting in the driveway and the driver didn't see him. That is all there is to it. Quit blaming anyone including the victim, the driver and the parents. For all you know, the parents may have been sitting out in their yard also. Give it a rest and think about the victim and hope he recovers.

first off, a child is in icu and i pray for skyler and his family that he recovers completly. He was not out wondering the streets at 1 am according to the article, he was in his own driveway. he is a teenager and it is summer break, why should his parents be charged, for allowing their child outside, charging his parents is insane. Sounds to my like this was just a terrible accidient and that prayers need to go out to him and his family instead of all the degrading that is going on

Everyone seems so fast to pass judgement. She was in the driveway of a home...why blame the parents?

Posted by: Tim on Jul 24, 2008 at 12:56 PM
Ari is it a crime for someone to be leaving somewhere at 1AM? The public loves to assume so much, has to have somewhere to put blame....ect...

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 24, 2008 at 12:21 PM
It was boy, i know who he is. Everyone pray that he will be ok. =(

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 24, 2008 at 12:17 PM
WSAZ has it wrong. Skylar Young is a BOY not a girl and he was sitting in his driveway on his cell phone behind the SUV when his brother's friend backed out not knowig that Skylar was sitting behind the car.

Posted by: cc on Jul 24, 2008 at 10:15 AM
i agree with more info..why was she out @ 1am? and why didnt she stop when she seen the car was backing out? was she drunk? on drugs? what? i bet they did toxicology on her.but will they make it public if she was drunk or something?dont be so quick to blame the driver when he probably didnt see her.

Posted by: Ari on Jul 24, 2008 at 08:51 AM
ok i read it wrong, but still why was she/he out that late? Adn what was the driver doing leaving the house that late

Posted by: Pablo on Jul 24, 2008 at 08:07 AM
The parents of the girl should be arrested. Why is a 14 year old girl on the streets at 1 in the morning? The parents of the girl should also pay for all damages to the vehicle that hit her daughter. When parents start acting like parents we will see our children becoming more responsible adults.

Posted by: Beth Ann on Jul 24, 2008 at 12:11 AM
Ashamed, I don't see how this is gossip. Yes it was someones child, but she was 14 out at 1:00 in the morning. People are going to ask what she was doing out at that time? Also as for rampage, how do you know he didnt look back? My prayers go out to all who is involved and hope this young later is going to be alright.

Posted by: Tim on Jul 23, 2008 at 10:35 PM
How do you all know the driver didnt look back? The child could have been in the drivers blind spot.

Posted by: rampage on Jul 23, 2008 at 10:00 PM
i agree with everyone here, but why the hell didn't the driver look back, the girl needs grounded and the driver should pay the medical bills for not looking back

Posted by: More Info .. on Jul 23, 2008 at 08:50 PM
Will charges be filed on the parents of this young girl ?

Posted by: More Info !!!! on Jul 23, 2008 at 08:48 PM
I would like to know more info on this . Why was she on the streets at 1am and why did she not move when the car was backing out ?

Posted by: ashamed on Jul 23, 2008 at 07:09 PM

Posted by: Ed on Jul 23, 2008 at 05:59 PM
Ari, Who said this person was on an ATV?

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 23, 2008 at 05:55 PM
I think it was a boy not a girl. His name is Skyler Young not Skylar Young.

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 23, 2008 at 12:38 PM
Again, what was a 14 yr old doing out at 1AM?

Posted by: Curious on Jul 23, 2008 at 11:34 AM
So here is a question....what was a 14 year old girl doing walking the streets at 1:00 in the morning anyway? Where were the parents????

Posted by: Ari on Jul 23, 2008 at 10:28 AM
