CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A woman in a wheelchair was hit by a car in the Charleston area of Kanawha City.

Police say the woman was crossing the eastbound lanes of 35th Street around 10:00am Wednesday when the driver of a Ford Taurus hit her.

The woman was not seriously hurt, in fact she refused to go to the hospital to be checked out.

No charges have been filed in the case.

Then why report something like this? All this does is waste time of the reporter and the world. I will agree some people need these "scooters" but not all that I see ride them.

I agree with Clyde wheelchairs of this type need the big orange flags or something else to make them more visible to drivers. My son very nearly hit a man in Barboursville who uses a motorized wheelchair to travel to Kroger from the Veteran's home. My son wasn't speeding, and he was paying attention. The wheelchair was just very hard to see in the low light situation. Surely there is a way to make it safer for both wheelchair users and for the drivers. No one wants to hit and hurt anyone. There are more people using these chairs so there will be more incidents unless safety regulations are enacted.

The story doesn't say whether or not she had sent the text on her phone, or if the accident interrupted it. Come on women, let's put away our phones and drive!

You can't just decide to go whenever you want. Their are laws for pedestrians to follow also. And lets talk about those selfish Bicyclers, They are the worst, If you want to ride in the road put tags and pay taxes on those bikes.

Who is to say the person driving the car was at fault. She might have be jay-walking or rolling for that matter. Get the facts before you make a judgement.

By looking at the video above the lady in the chair did not use the crosswalk. All she had to do is go a few more feet down the street and use the crosswalk after all she wasn't walking she was using a motorized chair.

These wheelchairs need one of those big orange flags up in the air if they're going to be riding around town. They are hard to see and a lot of people are not looking for them. I remember a few months back when a man in a wheelchair got stuck on the front of a semi-truck and was pushed several miles before the truck was stopped! This lady is lucky she didn't get seriously hurt.

People need to start watching their driving habits more. Everyday it seems like there is someone hit by a vehicle. She is lucky in this case because she was not injured, but it doesnt mean hitting her was okay. There needs justice!!!
