GALLIA COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- History, heritage and heirlooms. Those are what quilts often represent as families share and hand them down.

The concept is the same with the Quilt Barn Trail -- the latest tour to hit Gallia County. It's allowing families to share their family designs and personal stories with the world.

It's a slice of Americana -- rolling hills along a countryside with a quaint gathering featuring singing and celebrating family history. It's the dedication of the fourth quilt square along Gallia County's new Quilt Barn Trail.

This square, titled Century of Progress, is posted on a barn that belongs to Vic and Mary Niday. It is an appropriate choice, since this working farm is more than a century old and has remained in the same family.

The Niday home is nearly a century old, too, holding all of the rich history to prove it. Mary designed the quilt, including the now painted square, more than 30 years ago. Carrie Nipora is the artist who took Mary’s design and painstakingly painted it on their barn.

Mary Niday designed the quilt more than 30 year ago. This is the fourth quilt square to be dedicated.

The Gallia County Quilt Barn Trail will eventually include 15 different locations.

I saw this barn on a recent trip to Ohio. This is a great tribute to the beauty of the old barns that are becoming all too rare in our countryside. The Quilt block is the pefect compliment to the barn. The barn and the quilt block exemplify the skills of our American artisans, and the American spirit. This is a nice article, and the artist did a nice job on the quilt block. The Nidays have an extensive collection of Ohio barn information including photgraphs of many barns that are no longer standing. I too love old barns.

What a beautiful historical quilt piece. Thank you Carrie Nipora for painting it on your barn and to Carrie Cline for the article.
