CLARK TOWNSHIP, Ohio (AP) - Two West Virginia men have been hospitalized after the small twin engine airplane they were in crash landed in a field.

The Holmes County Sheriff's Department says the crash happened at around 9:20 a.m. Thursday after the 1957 Piper Apache had engine trouble.

The pilot, 60-year-old Floyd S. Pierson of Milton, West Virginia, was in serious condition early Friday at Akron General Hospital,

His passenger, 51-year-old Charles W. Stevens of Charleston, West Virginia, was in serious condition in intensive care at the hospital.

Pierson told deputies he'd been hired to fly the plane to Charleston, West Virginia, to its new owner.

He says after losing one engine, he had to crash land.

An investigation is continuing.
