WINFIELD, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A popular fishing spot in Putnam County will close for at least the next six months starting this week.

Wednesday, the United States Army Corps of Engineers will close the Route 35 fishing access area at the Winfield Locks and Dam so it can make improvements to the area.

It was originally supposed to close last month, but there were delays.

Construction is expected to last until April, but that may vary depending upon weather and water levels.

Fishing access on the Eleanor side of the Kanawha River below the dam will remain open.
