POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- After more than a decade of disagreeing how to fix the county's crumbling school buildings, students, school leaders and the overall community helped dedicate a $25 million school construction project on Monday.

The junior/senior high school, which will accommodate seventh-graders through seniors, is equipped with four science labs, four computer labs, and a "smart board" in every classroom.

"It’s truly an honor, said Marla Nowlin, a Point Pleasant junior. "It’s better than I could dream of ... We’ve always had great teacher. Now, we have a great facility to go with them."

The school is an addition and renovation of the old Point Pleasant High School. Construction started two years ago. Students have been attending the new school since the beginning of the school year.

for all of you who hate the bailout the federal government is doing..we the tax payer of mason county are doing the same thing. we are providing funds for our so called educators(and some are good )to have a nice place to hang out all day and we pay them to do so and we pay their boss to do the same only his office is not as nice, but the home he lives in and the other one in a diiferent county he owns is . when it is my turn to be able to afford to say i need a vacation and for someone to pay for it.........when will the govenment bail me out. to the children of mason county enjoy your new school and take care of it and i hope you get a good education to be smarter then some of your peirs!

i grew up and live in point and i know it don't take a nice school to get a good education. some of the oldest scholls in the would have a better ecucational programe then we will every see.....they have educated teachers with values and rules and they respect one another.

i do not begrudge our children of a good education. i received one from the schools the were consolidated. i am however tired of footing the bill. my taxes without a levy is about $100 with it they are closer to $900. i have aproblem with the way the levy is paid. if you work for a living and have a place to live (that welfare don't provide) you pay for all those who don't. yet it is those people who have 3-4 or 5 children who i work everyday to feed and pay for them a place to live and a nice school to go to while their parent watch opra and Dr. Phil or simply put lay on ther tush and stay 1/2 out of it. this is what makes me mad. it is not the childs fault but they too will grow up thinking this is a part of life and the chain of welfare is seldom broke.so i feel they need to come up with a differant way to pay these levy's. send a direct tax bill to every resident, it amazes me how they find money to support their habits and clothes to look good while they are doing it.

To: Mason Co Parent. Move your child to Point! If you are SOOO upset over the fact that Point gets more stuff then the rest, Move your child so he or she can have all the benefits! I experienced two schools in Mason Co and I got to decide where I wanted to attend! The school looks good, Id like to have a tour!

once again the children are in the middle. the new school is beautiful and i hape the education will take a turn for the better, howecver i received a good education snd had caring teachers may years ago who taught nnot only educational values but moral values, noe i see teachers who could use some education themsef ina few of these departments. yes some teaching comes from home but when you live in a world as we do today this teaching needs to be instealed every where and every chance we have with children. so instead of alll the bad things hug a child tell them they are loved and put fourth the effort to make their life better.you may be the only hug they get for the day. God Bless

I have lived here my entire life and as long as I can remember Wahama, Hannan and Point Pleasant have always had the same problem with one and other they all feel that the other is treated better. This is the mentality of a young child. Grow up already! I'll tell you like I tell my children learning to share and get along is the best thing for everyone.

Maybe point pleasant did win, but didnt you see this coming. Wahama and Hannan did not want to consolidate because they would lose their traditions and would have long busrides. I blame the parents for not supporting the consolidation and blame them for their kids not getting the best education. Sometimes you have to put others before yourselves. And I do agree with the previous post. "If you dont like it move to point pleasant."

I agree with former mason county student, howeverthere is nothing good in the schools in mason county.... poor education and poor leadership the reason why I moved my child to Cabell County for an education...I must also say that Ashton Elementary is a good school....maybe some other elementary schools in Mason County are good too but the secondary schools are sad

Hannan and Wahama should have both been bulldozed years ago. The best use for that land would be pasture. Let some cattle graze on the sites. The people in Mason County should vote against every school levy. The taxpayers in the county decided to send back the SBA money years ago, and now the expectation is there for the property owners to pay for two unnecessary schools in the county.

hey, mason county resident, that is such a nice attitude. an education isn't about winning or losing. grow up and LOSE the jealousy. if you don't like the situation, my recommendation is to move to point pleasant.

The other two schools in the county were rebuild with no more room or labs... once again pt wins and hannan and wahama lose...
