HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Ongoing training is crucial for law enforcement officers.

Local officers gathered to train in the latest high-tech simulator training, which included a traveling trailer where officers “shot it out” with a virtual armed school shooter on a killing spree.

Participants encountered other “real life” armed scenarios including domestic violence calls, traffic stops and hostage situations. The training specialist with the Rural Law Enforcement Tech Center said this simulator is about adapting to today's crime scenes and keeping the good guys at least one step ahead of bad guys.

Nearly all of Huntington’s police officers went through the simulator training. The training also was open to Cabell County sheriff's deputies and Marshall University Police.
