COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Ohio gasoline is more than 40 cents a gallon cheaper, on average, than it was last Monday.

The price trackers at AAA and the Oil Price Information Service say the average cost for regular in the state has dropped to about $2.94 a gallon, down from about $3.35 a week ago.

Analysts say fuel prices have been sliding because demand has declined as an economic crisis spreads around the globe.

In Ohio, gasoline costs have fallen nearly 28 percent from the state's all-time high average of $4.05 for regular reached on July 3.

Prices for diesel also have been coming down. According to AAA, it now costs an average $3.85 a gallon in Ohio, compared to a record of $4.75 in late May.

Why is it that WV always has the highest price. It can't be the Gas Tax because PA has a higher gas tax and I always pay at least 30 cheaper when I go there. A friend of mine recently drove her daughter to Maine for College, and she said the highest she ever paid for gas was in West Virginia. I don't get it.

I wonder why gas is so much there than here? I really dont want to hear "Competition" because I was in Columbus this weekend, gas in the city was 3.01 to 3.11 but get past Scioto Downs and gas prices dropped from there to just a few miles outside of Lucasville it went up to 3.48 more or less. Now from Scioto Downs to Lucasville it was 2.84 to 2.96 a gal. why the difference? I swear it is those that control the gas prices in this area, it is a monopoly John Clark and Marathon raping us again on gas. The price of a barrel of light crude oil has dropped 46 dollars in the last month and gas prices have fallen 45 cents /- just doesn't seem right. Before anyone says it there are also alot of byproducts from refining gasoline that is used for other stuff that is like free money so dont give me the loss of refining speech on why gas prices arent falling. they use and sell just about every bit of a gallon of crude in the refining process maybe not for gas but for other things profitable

Finally! It's about time we start seeing the gas prices coming down.
