Don Wise leaves most of the yard mowing to his son Corey. Corey is now with his family at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital where his dad is in critical condition.
Don Wise was finishing up the lawn about 3 weeks ago when he felt a sharp pain in his leg. He thought something was thrown up from the Mower. He was bleeding a lot so they called an ambulance and discovered he had been shot.
Surgeons removed a pellet from Don's leg.
Police believe Mr. Wise was likely shot with a pellet hunting rifle. Gun experts say the hunting weapon packs much more firepower than a bb gun. At 1100 feet per second, it shoots pretty fast and pretty hard. It's illegal to fire any gun in a residential area.
Family members continue their vigil outside an intensive care unit.
Police say they have a suspect and it’s not a reckless kid, but an adult male.
They don't believe the shooting was intentional.
If you know anything that can help make an arrest, please call the Portsmouth Police.
