Local People Speak Out About Roller Coaster Accident

A popular vacation destination is under the microscope after more than two dozen people were injured on a roller coaster. The accident happened Sunday on the roller coaster "Son of Beast," at the Kings Island Amusement Park.

State officials say a cracked timber may have caused a wooden roller coaster to malfunction. 27 people were taken to the hospital. Two of the riders remain in the hospital in fair condition.

Officials from the Ohio Department of Agriculture, including State Agriculture Director Fred Dailey, inspected the ride today. Department spokeswoman Melanie Wilt says officials found a cracked
timber as they began their investigation of the accident Sunday on
the Son of Beast at Paramount's Kings Island near Cincinnati.

Wilt cautioned that the findings are preliminary and officials
are not ruling out any other possibilities at this point. The park closed the ride after the accident, but Wilt said Agriculture officials put an official stop order on the ride Monday. She says the ride will not reopen until inspectors have done a thorough investigation and inspection and determine it is safe to ride.
