A two year old girl was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and police believe the girl's mother and her boyfriend are to blame.
The girl's injuries were discovered back in May. But it wasn't until Monday the boyfriend arrived in magistrate court to face the charges. Richard Lindroth of South Charleston turned himself in. The little girl's mother was arrested last week.
Richard Lindroth remained silent as he walked into magistrate court but his attorney Tom Stone was waiting to do the talking for him.
Lindroth, who's 26, faces child neglect and abuse along with malicious wounding charges. Police say they were appalled at what they found.
The house where police say the abuse happened was just feet away from Thomas Memorial Hospital where the injuries were discovered.
The mother took the child to the hospital and once the professional workers at Thomas, the doctors, nurses and triage nurses saw the type of injuries so course they did what they had to do. They called the cops who called us.
Before the day was over Lindroth was out of jail and back home. Family friend Eugene Aliff put up his property to meet the 150-thousand dollars bond.
Angela Shaw is also out of jail now but she faces child neglect charges. Police won't get into specifics about what exactly the little girl went through but they say their case is strong.
Detective P.C. Rader of South Charleston Police says, “No doubt in my mind we saved this child's life...no doubt at all.”
The baby is now recovering. Her whole body was covered with injuries. Police say it was unimaginable.
The two defendants are not supposed to have any contact with each other or with the child -- although we saw both Lindroth and Shaw separately outside the home they shared. Lindroth went into his next-door neighbor's house after he posted bond, and we saw Shaw walking from that house into her own.
A Prelimary hearing is set for the end of next week.
Lindroth is the son of a prominent local attorney, his father, who has the same name, is the attorney for the city of nitro.
