It started as a bank robbery, then turned into a man-hunt that crossed state lines. Tonight both men are in custody.
When the two suspects were spotted by Greenup Police, they didn't try to run, just held up their hands and surrendered. Police say they believe the men were exhausted from running all day. Police have not released the charges yet.
After an all day search police say they found their men. 44 year old Willis Cochran and 33 year old Mark Gibson surrendered after Greenup police spotted them walking along US 23 near Greenup County.
The capture is a sigh of relief for Joe Ann Potter who lives in Russell.
Joe Ann Potter said, “it's no something that happens in this area. Today I didn't feel that safe.”
Police say they believe Cochran and Gibson are the suspects in two bank robberies. One of the robberies was on Monday in Russell, Kentucky then one Tuesday morning in Wheelersburg, Ohio.
Police say the men had 17 thousand dollars on them, stuffed in their pockets and under their hats. They found more money in clothing thrown away in a dumpster.
Potter says she's not surprised by the quick capture. “I’m real proud of the Russell Police Department. Good men they are.”
