Update on Tuesday
SOUTH WEBSTER, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Scioto County Sheriff Marty Donini announced Tuesday that Timothy Reese had stolen property on him at the time of his shooting death.

Reese was shot Sunday morning after a confrontation with a man who the sheriff said caught him breaking into his car.

Tuesday, Donini said residents down the road from the shooting came forward to stake claim to the property found on Reese Sunday morning. Donini said they appear to be victims of a home invasion, but didn't notice the missing items until later.

The sheriff says they are preparing the case for a review by a grand jury, but are continuing to investigate the shooting as self-defense.

Original Story
SOUTH WEBSTER, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A man attempting to break into a car Sunday morning was shot and killed.

Scioto County Sheriff Marty Donini says his office is investigating the shooting death of Timothy L. Reese. He was a 21 years and from South Webster.

The shooting happened around 4:00 Sunday morning outside a home near the Scioto-Jackson County line.

Sheriff Donini says Reese was shot after a confrontation with a resident who had caught him attempting to break into a car. According to the police report, a confrontation took place and the resident fired a gun at Reese.

Deputies say they believe this was a case of self-defense, but advise the case is still under investigation. All the evidence will be presented to The Scioto County Grand Jury.

This is the second time I have tried to post a comment, so here it comes again! COME ON PEOPLE WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU? A YOUNG MAN HAS LOST HIS LIFE. I don't care what he did or didn't do, He is not here to tell his side of the story. And don't you understand he has a mother, Dad, Brother and sister who is in PAIN for losing a love one. Some people just don't understand till it happens to them and I pray it doesn't. But instead of putting down Timmy or his family why don't you do the right thing. LET THE FAMILY HAVE SOME TIME. God Bless all that was involved and my heart and prayers goes out to Timmy's family.

Even on posted private property...We are still not allowed to take the law into our own hands. If someone is breaking into your property it is your job to contact the POLICE.

im begining to agree with some people on here asking for this to be shut down. its the same ignorance over and over. people who are trying to defend timmy need to realize that no matter how you look at the situation he was in the wrong. he was trespassing and stealing at 4am. no excuses. drugs arent an excuse to go do whatever you want. there is no reason that he couldnt go out and get a job like every other decent person in southern ohio. people around here are sick of these jokes taking whats not theirs. it happens everyday and the decent people are finally fighting back. its a sad day when you have to protect yourself in your own home with a gun but thats what it has come to. let it go and quit showing how ignorant you are.

i can't say that,i know either family.what i can say there is alot of hatred going on here.i really feel sorry for both parties in this dispute.on one hand you've got a boy that had his life ended in the prime of his life, on the other hand you have a man that was very scared and took that life.what some people don't understand is that this thing goes on all over the world and who are we as people to judge either side of this dispute. my heart aches for both parties in this case.the point of the story is that they were both in the wrong here.yes according to the story timmy was stealing and yes the man that shot him took a life, but, the thing here is no matter what happens here is that you can't bring this boy back and an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth isn't going to change a thing.i'm not siding with either side here and god will be the only one who judges this situation no matter what anyone here has to say about all this.god bless you all and justice will prevail above all.

Everyone just needs to shut up and let Timmy rest in peace. Its not anyones business anyway besides timmys family and the guy who killed him. RIP Timmmy

I believe if he was just walking home he should have not been close to the house or cars. If it was my property I would have done the same thing. Just get a job and quit stealing we have to work for stuff so should everyone else.

Despite the rude comments and everything, I think that it is time to let this die down and let the court deal with it. Hopefully they do the right thing, but only time can tell. We just need to be patient and let things rest for a while. You guys just need to let Timmy rest in peace.

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 29, 2008 at 01:23 PM
Everyone says it was pitch black out and that the boy was dressed all in black, so i was wondering how did he know that Timmy was coming at him. I livee in town and when it is pitch black out i know i wouldn't know who was coming at me. If he was dressed in black then there was no way the man could see Timmy coming at him. I wish people would drop it and let the poor boy rest in peace and let the family griee for their loss. The guy deserves what he gets. As i see it it was Murder in cold blood. Let him rest in PEACE!!!!!!!

If the young man hadn't been there trying to steel the car in the first place, none of this would have happened. He put himself in that situation.

I don't know either set of families nor the victim, but please WSAZ let this man R.IP. I can't think what his mom is going through. Rather he is guilty or not, it is time to let this go.

well this young boy didnt deserve to loose his life over a car from the video i seen on here i dont think the family was rich or has much money or anything they shouldnt have took this boys life from him now whats his kid gonna say when the mommy hast to tell the kid her daddy got shot in cold blood i beleve the mother should do something about this NO ONE should get away with MURDER no matter what someone takes....

Posted by: Donny on Oct 29, 2008 at 10:54 AM
The story says nothing about a cinder block. That is just conjecture. Sounds like an after the act made up "fact" to help bolster a self-defense claim of a scared, scared man who fired a shot and ended a life.

you let someone step foot on my property and i catch him or her stealing and then them come at me yea I would shoot them. You people who are judging the families. Well let me tell you , the boy had to have wanted help, the court cant forece someone to go, they hve to hit rock bottom. and yes I know what it's like to have someone addicte to drugs, my aunt was addicted for 11 1/2 years and afte my grandmother died (this was her rock bottom) she has been clean since april of 08..just think if it was you who had the addiction and people were saying what you all are saying

Posted by: Alexis Bise on Oct 29, 2008 at 09:32 AM
I admit that I didn't have the complete story last time I commented. I'm still not ashamed of what I said. And another thing...when someone shoots another person and then hides them in a ditch and the coroner/police have to SEARCH for them then it's flat out murder. They moved his body. It's that simple. And the guy that shot him is from Mariann, Ohio and he's a nutjob at that. He shoots his gun constantly at the stupid creek and it ricochets off a lot of the time. He almost hit one of my friends Grandpa one time. There's no way it was an accident. They chased him down and shot him. Plus 3 grown men...older....against 1 skinny guy is not right. Timmy could fight but the guys that shot him had the weight advantage. Plus, NO ONE PERSON is any match for a gun. Keep this in your minds....Timmy ran....but they chased him. They unrightfully murdered him. And it's just not right.

Surprise Surprise he had stolen items on him when they found him but hes not a thief all the Timmy backers say.

Posted by: People Lie on Oct 29, 2008 at 09:12 AM
How can you people sit here and believe EVERYTHING that these "victims" say? Are you not aware that people lie?! It's human instinct to lie! How ignorant can you people be? I'm sorry but if you look at the evidence and add the story that the "victims" keep changing repeatedly, then you would actually understand that none of these things fit together or add up! I'm serious! THINK ABOUT IT!!! It doesn't take a genius to see all of the obvious mistakes in this story and how if it doesn't add up that it has to be a lie. If you shot someone and didn't want to go to prison, wouldn't you make up a story to cover yourself up so that you could avoid going to jail? If you're being confronted about a murder that you're being accused for then your instincts will tell you to lie. But I am serious about this, you people need to THINK about this!!! It's the least you could do!!

To anon at 9:54 p.m., I don't know if I am the anon you are referring to or not, but I also get up very early. I still don't go visit people at 4 a.m., especially a 3 year old who would be asleep. That claim is absurd. He was stealing and had stolen goods on him. Play with fire get burned, and if he hadn't gone after the guy he probably wouldn't have died. Oh and it's you're clueless not your clueless. again did you go furthur than the sixth grade? I worked in the Er for years and I can tell you a bullet to the aorta likely will stop you in your tracks, but an artery in the leg may take a good bit longer allowing him time to get to the road, it's more likely than not. That's a fact. Stop making excuses for criminals. I don't know the guy, he may have had some decent qualities, but he brought this on himself.

Posted by: larry on Oct 29, 2008 at 08:20 AM
Are you people serious !! I do not know anyone who lives out in the country and is going to let someone come on their property in the middle of the night and break windows and steal things. No jury on the face of the earth is going to convict this guy of anything...mark my word.....

To Anonymous below, you speak badly of those posting WWJD, and then have the nerve to say Jesus would have shot him too. Jesus did not raise a hand even to the Romans who crucified him. What Bible do you read from? I bet it has a lot of pictures so you can more easily "understand" it.

Posted by: Happy Camper on Oct 29, 2008 at 01:53 AM
I have seen this person many nights walking up and down 140 around this time. He always has something in his hands and the next day you hear of people getting robbed. I fiqured that he was out stealing things. I put two and two together when I heard the news and saw the person. Sounds like the family is in denial. I have read all of these post on here just being curious. The one about the family didn't seek him help hit the nail right on the head. How much truth can that be? Being a parent, you KNOW what your kids are doing. You may deny it but you know. No matter what the age, that is still your child. Get them the help they need. Start with the ones that are on here. Learn from this. God works in mysterious ways. Don't fight anger with anger. Do the right thing. GET HELP!!! It is available to you. There are churches all around. I hope when you attend his funeral the preacher gives a real good sermon. Take it with you before something else happens. GOD be with all.

I know both familys involved and i which this didn't happen but the way i see it if one kills another for stealing then everyone else will think they can kill a theif. I have a daughter at home and i would keep her as safe as i can but i would not kill anyone that way. I try to teach my daughter the write way and that is to call the cops and let them handle it no kill someone in cold blood. I give my regaurds to the victims family. Let Timmy rest in peace now and drop it and let it go. If this haunts the guy who shot Timmy then let it haunt him for the rest of his life. Timmy rest in Peace!!!!!!!

I just think everyone should just let it go the boy is dead and his family is grieving enough. Just stop with all of the stupid comments.

Posted by: jeremy on Oct 28, 2008 at 10:55 PM
anyone who attacks you with a sinder block is not a good person anyone who steals from you is not a good person so i do not feel sorry for him. a person has a right to defend themselves period. should he have been shot for stealing probably not but should he be shot for trying to attack someone in the middle of the night with a sinder block absolutely. ron made the right choice the only choice anyone who loves his family would or could have made he wasnt looking for trouble he was sleeping and this punk came looking for trouble and found more than he wanted. i say way to go ron you did what any father or even concerned citizen should have done. p.s. the family has no right to sue bc their son was killed committing a crime use some sense people

Posted by: nephew on Oct 28, 2008 at 10:39 PM
my uncle Ron Malone had no other choice but too fire cause if timmy would have got past him with his cinder block he could have hurt his family. I mean his wife was in the camper and other family members in the house. and people are stickin up for timmy which dont make no since cause he has a record of theft this was all self defence he had no other options he could have gottin killed or rally hurt by the half of cinder block timmy was chargin him with..SELF DEFENCE..

VERY HAPPY: He shot because someone was coming at him, in the dark, dressed in black, with a sinder block. It's not because someone was stealing from him. Some of the previous comments really are ignorant.

Posted by: Truth on Oct 28, 2008 at 10:06 PM
Look at the whole picture. The man didn't shoot because someone was breaking into his car; he fired shots because someone was coming at him with a sinder block. That is self defense. Clearly, according the story Malone has given and the statements from the news story above, Reese was the aggressor in this particular case. Mr. Malone had all the right to defend himself. Also, note that Reese was likely to be "high on drugs". Now whether or not Reese would've tried to commit harm to the family is justified by this statement. When you're high, you don't do things you would normally do. IF he was high on something or had drugs in his system, this makes Malone's story all that believable. Regards to both the families involved; this is an unfortunate happening.

Posted by: anon on Oct 28, 2008 at 08:51 PM
It does seem a high price to pay for a crime. However, if the law cant do something about these criminals then we as citizens need to take matters into our own hands. I dont want to know what it feels like to kill someone but if it comes to that or someone endangering my life then Im shooting first. If this guy had not shot him, timmy could have shot him first, you never know. If he let him go and called police and gave them info, they would not have done anything to timmy. Come on people we need to stand together and protect our rights and our belongings.

Posted by: VERY HAPPY on Oct 28, 2008 at 08:48 PM
We msut protect our own belongings. If it is not your then do not bother it or even attempt to steal it. The shooter just prevented him from stealing from someone else.

I have reason to believe that our break in's were due to this man. Neighbors of his bought our items for $15 bucks and told me that they bought them from Timmy. That is only 1 of the hundred things we had stolen. I did trace other items. Now let me ask you something, your daughter is asleep, and this drug addict cut your camera wires beside your daughter's bedroom window...What are you gonna do? We did not turn the second claim in on our insurance. The first one, yes. We work for our money. We do not steal. We pay our insurance for a reason. I have went ten years claim free. You and all of his family knew about his drug problem. Why did you wait until now to take action? It's too late. I have done nothing to the boy. Could have, chose not to. I knew he would get caught. My advice to people, get infared cameras and a real good security system. We DID. Not even my children know where the cameras are. Yard , driveway. Smile your on camera. Vehicles same way. God bless.

Yea i really didn't know all the people involved in this crime but i dont believe that a car is worth a mans life who has a daughter that he was trying to get from a horrible situation. how could someone live with taking someones life over something that is meaningless material objects just isnt worth it.? yeah i had people still from me things that actually meant something and thengs that are never replaceablt and i know who did it and i wuldnt shoot them even if i had a chance. taking someone from their love ones mother, daughter ect. is not worth a car or any other material objects. i hope that justice is served and the only thing that people want is for the man that took their baby they are only interested in the man and payfor what he did. i believe that this will be sorted out on judgement day and the people who make it to heaven are the only people who will know who was in the right. i send my regards to this boys family and im very sorry.

Whether this boy was breaking into a car he still didn't deserve to get shot. I have had people messing around with my home and car but i would never harm them for doing it. If you knew who the boy was you could always give the officers his name because he did not deserve to die for it. I feel sorry for his family because he was to young to die. I give his family my regaurds for their loss.

According to everything that I have heard about this, it sounds to me like someone is doing some major covering up. It only takes some common sense, but people, listen to what you're saying and listen to what these "victims" are saying. Something doesn't add up, because if Timmy were indeed confronted and then shot, in which the bullet hit his main artery, don't you think that that would kill him instantly? He wouldn't have time to run all the way to the end of the driveway where Timmy's body was actually found. Plus the place where the body was found was NOT these people's property to begin with and it never was. It belongs to my family and it is also known as a rightaway for people who are walking home and taking a short cut. So tell me, how is it that Timmy can be about 1/2 mile down to the end of a driveway beside these "victims'" house, get shot, and then run all the way back to the other end closest to the road in such a short period of time? That isn't possible.

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 28, 2008 at 03:37 PM
I don't know why you people didn't post my comment last time, but it is extremely important that you do post it this time. This is not a joke. I live right up the road from where this happened, basically next door if you want to call it that. Everyone is defending this so-called "victim" because they say that he was defending his property. Let me ask you people this, how is it that he is defending his property if the place where Timmy's body was found wasn't really even this guy's property? I'm sorry but that's just not defense. That part of the road is a RIGHTAWAY, so therefore everyone around here has the right to use it. Before these crazy people moved in, me and my mom used to be able to walk to my cousin's house, taking that way as a short cut, and things have been that way for many many years. It's ridiculous that these people think that they own this rightaway, which is owned by someone else. So tell me how it is self defense if Timmy's body wasn't found on their property?

Posted by: Where you there? on Oct 28, 2008 at 03:13 PM
To the person who said that he ran so he wouldn't get caught. WERE YOU THERE? They said he died instantly, so I know he didn't tell you he ran from this man!

happy, the Castle Doctrine would not apply in these circumstances, so yes, the family of the deceased should and probably will sue. How much is a life worth to you. The shooter will be paying out a lot more for his decision than it would have cost to replace a used car.

Rick is making up his "kill bill." I think Quentin Tarantino used the phrase first. You cannot shoot anyone in self defense, in any state for just stealing on your property. You have to have an immediate fear of danger or the person must actually be attempting to enter your home or occupied vehicle. Listening to Armchair Lawyers such as Rick is a good way to get put in jail for a long time.

He chose his own destiny. America needs to wake up and see who the victoms are here. If this man would have been in jail where he belonged this would have never happened. He had a rap sheet a mile long so dont make excuses for him he was a criminal and he got caught. The real victom in this is the home owner and his family we need more people like you around. My thoughts and prayers go out to both familys but there is only person to blame here. Lets not leave out our judicial system that failed us along time ago as well.

I believe the man had every right to shoot him. He was protecting himself and his families property. Maybe the people this boy ran with will learn from his mistakes. I work hard for my money and I will protect my family and our property. A car is just a car? I paid 5 years on my car and it's the only transportation I have to work and school. This boy had no business in someones yard 4am. If someone was in my yard at 4am I would have shot at them too! I'm tried of hearing of KIDS on drugs stealing for their habits. The police knows who are the ones who are stealing but they do nothing about it. A person has to protect themself because no one else will. If the situation was turned around I'm sure the family of the boy would have done the same thing. Your first instinct is to protect yourself. You may say you would have called 911 first but as we all know the police departments are not in no hurry especailly if it's a well known area.

To the pathetic people who shot Timmy if you were real christians you wouldn't have shot the boy, I think ten rounds was way over excessive so yeah it was a shoot to kill scenerio I don't feel sorry for you and I hope thatit eats you alive every day of you pathetic lives we all know were you will be going on judgement day and it isn't up. If you hit a main artery you have 2 seconds to bleed out and I know for a fact he wouldn't have had time to run down your driveway. He was agood guy and didn't deserve this his family is hurting and all of you people who say that it was a good thing need your head exsamined what if it was your baby then you wouldn't be saying the same thing. I hope they give the people who killed Timmy the death penalty. I am good friend's of the family and he will be loved and missed. To all you people who posted on this you weren't there so you have no right to judge it wasn't proven that he was trying to break into anything. I hope you all get yours in the end.

I know myself if I seen someone breaking into my veh I would confront him and if he came at me I would shot him too. I dont understand why some many people are defending this low life for what he did. He knew better and he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I am sorry for his family but who knows what would have happened if the father did not shot him. He was protecting his family like any human being would do.It is sad but you play with fire you get burnt eventually. I am sure the family is going to try to pursue this as a wrongful death and try to collect money off of it. Instead of that they needed to be their for their son and try to get him help. I understand you can only do so much but dont try to take up for someone that refuses help. I get so tired of hearing these parents acting like their kids are saints and do nothing wrong when they know they have. Parents need to start busting their kids butts and making them accountable for what they do instead of covering it.

i know both party's in this story and i my self do not agree with the way it happened. The boy was not going to hurt the people and don't belive that he had a weapon only a coward hides behind a gun. This could have been handled differently. Use the phone and the police that is what they are for. I hope the shooter feels bad because a family is suffering. and all the boy wanted was what? cd's, change in the ash tray, or maybe a pack of smokes in the seat. Was it worth his life. NO!!! If the man gets nothing out of this, does that give the rest of us the right to kill and say it was self defense? This is not the way i want my kids to see the law working. I think this case needs to be looked at very closely. Did he have a weapon? did he attack the man? did he do any harm to the family? I don't beleive so. Will i talk to this family NO!!! Will they have enemies YES!!! Deer slug? Did the boy have a chance NO!!!! none of this is right. Should he do jail time? YES!!!

I am not going to defend either person in this situation because I was not there. It is a sad situation. I will say that being from the area, I know that it could be too late if the sheriff was to be called if the young man was truly trying to steal or hurt someone. Does that give the man the right to kill him? No! I have 2 other concerns. 1. If he was taking a short cut, then why was he near the cars? 2. I am also concerned about taking a short cut across private property, especially at 4 in the morning. Like I said, I do not know the people or the circumstances, I just know that South Webster is quite a distance from the Sheriff department and I listed my other concerns. This is a lose/lose situation. I am not taking either side. Both were in the wrong. Unfortunately it can't be changed and someone lost a life. My sympathies to both families because this is something both will have to deal with the rest of their lives.

I know exactly what happened to all your stuff that has come up missing. YOU HIDE IT THEN COLLECT THE INSURANCE FROM THE ITEMS!! You need to go stick your nose into someone elses bussiness and stay out of this familys!!!

There is no way my uncle chased anyone down any drive way. He is in no shape to run and it sounds like he did the right thing if you cared so much about Timothy maybe you should have gotten him help before it came to this. I mean there are only so many places you can break in until you get confronted and I am very proud of my uncle I believe he did the right thing. He was protecting his family like any person would do. So lets remember who the true victim is in this case Is Ron and his family.

anon, how would you know any of this for a fact ? Obviously he did not live to tell this story, so where do you get your "facts"? I do not advocate killing unless your life or your loved one is threatened, but I know this, play with fire and you will likely be burned. He was commiting a crime and he paid a heavy price for it, I wish others would learn from this, I doubt it though. People are getting tired of thieves taking what they work for as if they are somehow entitled.

How do you get it was self-defense when the young man was found by the road not around the auto that he was saposally was tryin to break into..wouldnt he have been shot in the back instead of the stomach...and if in fact he had a weapon why was it not found around the young mans body.all in all everyone is getting tired of all the stealing and break ins in scioto county.,but does that give us the right to chase someone down and shot them down where they are..THE BIBLE SAYS.,EYE FOR AN EYE AND TOOTH FOR A TOOTH..but it also says in the BIBLE...one of GODS COMMANDMENTS THOU SHALT NOT KILL.... I dont know the young man personally only through my children and other children that went to school with him...but I also knew of the family that where this shooting took place....the old man that lives at this house has made treating comments to children that does walk up and down state route 140 if they walk by his drive to get to the place where these kids fish at .....

My husband and I have been victimized all summer with theses thefts trying to break in on us 3 and 4 o'clock in morning. They even had the nerve to walk into my back yard in day light and case our home while we were home. When asked, "what they were doing'? They always had some dumb excuse of looking for someone. Thank God our boys were home from college and observed theses thefts trying to come into our home. It is a shame when the working man cannot sleep at night trying to protect his business, personal property and his family. Theses thefts go home and sleep all day and steal from the working man at night. We felt violate and not safe in our home, do to theses type of people. Yes, we notified the Sheriff Dept. but they can be everywhere in Scioto County at all hours of the morning. It is bad when you sleep with loaded guns, ball bats and golf clubs at your bedside. As a resident of South Webster, we have had enough and well protect what is rightly ours!!

How can u people set there n write rude comments about Timmy, u all didnt know him. Why dont u all lose a very close friend and then u can tell us how u feel. All three of the men need to be put in prison and they need to get the elec. chair.... And those people up there say that when Timmy was shot it had hit his main artery. They said after he was shot he ran to the end of the drive way, well if it hit a main artery u die with in 2-3 seconds so there for he didnt have time to make it that far, cuz they said they shot him up by the house but Timmy was found at the end of the drive way, like i said theres no way he could have mad it that far!!!!! ITS MURDER HE WAS SHOT IN COLD BLOOD!!!!!! And i do believe all three men need to b put in PRISON for what they have done!!!! R.I.P. Timothy Lee Reese, we love n miss u soooooo~ much.

Posted by: Amy on Oct 28, 2008 at 10:23 AM
Did he deserve to die? Probably not, but those of you defending the guy that was trying to break in the car might want to take into consideration he had a rap sheet. This wasn't his first rodeo, this one just happened to be his last. I've had my car broken into in Charleston and things stolen from me, if I would have gotten there just a few minutes earlier I would have shot them. I work for what I have just like everyone else should. I hate nothing more than a thief. To the family, I'm sorry for your loss, but perhaps you should have been there from the beginning and nipped it in the bud before his life of crime got him killed.

If you were a christian family then you should know the 10 commandents, one of them being "Thall shalt not Kill," then another one is being "Thall shalt not steal" . You being the christian should have been praying to keep your family safe and guiding you ,and not to be going out to protect a car that did not have your family in it.A car can be replaced, can that boy, after all he is someones son. And all you that are saying "if you raise your kids right" well after they grow up you cannot tell them what to do. And who knows it could be your boy or girl someday that you have to try and get buried without having any money.

And as in the video posted above it said Timmy was in dark baggy clothing Well if you look now days people wear dark baggy clothing all the time! and i know timmy did because i had went to school with him for a couple of years . So just beacause he was wearing dark baggy clothing dont mean ANYTHING! The man should not have shot unless he was actually hitting him or trying to kill him. So i think the guy should be out away as long as Timmy will be!!! Car DOnt = a Life ANd i Hope the guy has night mares for ever!!! R.I.P TIMMY REESE!!!

Posted by: anonymous on Oct 28, 2008 at 08:07 AM
The man did not have to defend his life, as soon as he came out, Timothy ran so he wouldnt get caught..the man chased after him and shot him at the end of a VERY long driveway..he was killed instantly because the bullet hit a major artery so he had no time to run..also, Timothy did not pick up a cinderblock to hit the guy with, as i said once before, he ran as soon as the guy came out of his house so he would not get caught..ALSO, he was visiting his family, so he would never know who Timothy was if he was visiting from out of town, so when it was said that as soon as he got a look at Timothy, he knew exactly who he was, is just another lie..Timothy also never made it to the car to break in and he was never planning on breaking into the house to "harm" the two girls living there..you can obviously tell that this messed up family is milking the publicity they are recieving..

Man some people just dont get it i can care less if he would have got in the car and took everything in it! IT IS NOT ABOUT THE CAR OR EVEN THAT HE WAS TRYING TO GET INTO IT. As far as i am concerned!! My father inlaw would not have shot at him or even tried to shoot him if he had not charged at him with the cynder block. My God we didnt ask for this to happen And no we were not drunk and having target practice with this man. He was their up by the house where he had no business being in the middle of the night. He would still be here if He had not tried to ATTACK my Father inlaw! Yes i didnt know him but does that change anything now! I do feel for your family i have 2 young boy and i have learned some things my self. I have told both my boys if you do these things this can happen. This is something that has taught so many lessons and has also wrecked two familys live forever! Nothing will ever be the same because it will always be in the back of our minds. I am sorry for your loss

I need to put in some input here on some questions. Heroine is what they call this addiction. The family will deny it. This guy will walk up in your yard in broad daylight and steal anything he can get his hands on. Fingerprints, blood and anything that you want to find at the crime scene where he has been does not matter until he has been convicted of a crime. He has been in trouble numberous times and of course, family members lie for him, Just as you see on this site her from his family. GOOD BOY!!! Right. Knowing that someone is in your home while you are sleeping is scary. Look up heroine and find out what it makes one do. The family was told to get him help many times and guess what, they finally got him some help. This is what happens when you are blind. I feel sorry for those that did love him but you are just as guilty as the man that shot him. You knew what he was doing. You told him to quit stealing. You did not get him help that would only cost us taxpayers. FYI.

A shortcut at 4 am? I don't think so. I have personally warned a 17 year old boy to stop using my property as his short cut. He would walk on the side close to my home and cars at all hours. I told him he could walk on the end of the property away from EVERYTHING and I did inform him that I keep a 9 MM pistol with me. I'm a mom with 2 kids. My husband works out of town most of the time. So if there's someone that close to my home or car, then there's something wrong. I don't live along a highway. I will shoot. Sorry this kid had to die. But he was somewhere he shouldn't have been.

im glad that there are some people who realize that the victim here was the man being robbed and not the person trying to rob him. this is whats wrong with society today...you people are trying to justify breaking into a car and condeming a man for defending himself and family! again i ask you to walk in the shooters shoes! he did not kill an innocent person! he killed a person attempting to rob him and possibly cause harm to his family! what would you do? sit back and watch? i doubt it.. i know that if i was in a position where i felt threatened, especially at 4am, i wouldnt have a problem shooting someone.. and those of you saying you hope that we all end up in a situation like this boys family: you are the sick ones..no one deserves that kind of thing wished on them...

I gotta ask you all who are talking about he was on his way to his daughter...at 4am?? Was she sick? Was she injured? Or is that just the way you are trying to make people feel sorry for him because he had a child? If he had not been on someone elses property at 4am he would not have been shot. And while I'm asking questions, was he shot in the leg or the stomach? Did he have a brick or not? It shouldn't matter if he had one, because if this man feared for himself and his family at 4AM he did the right thing. He protected his family. Shame on them for sending this to the grand jury. Should be investigated and called what it is. SELF DEFENSE!

I am the home owner of where this happened no ones knows more of what happened than me and my family. My parents and sister and brother in law was visiting to celebrate our babys birthday at 4 in the morning my mom who was sleeping down in their camper was woken up by this guy taking a cynder block and banging it on my sisters car window she woke up my dad who got up and went out in his underwear, no less, with his pistol at his side pointing down and before he could get a word out the guy charged at him with the cinderblock raised. my dad had no choice was he suppose to let the guy beat him to deat he is 50 and disabled and if he let him kill him who next my mom me my family ??? there is much evidence that he tried to pry the window of the car out and then slammed the block into it at least twice he was shot at by the camper and ran almost down the lenght of our driveway before going in the weeds we did not ask for this or for a bomb either please remember us in prayers

All you people getting on here and talking about what a great guy the burglar was are why some parts of Southern Ohio are becoming a real cesspool. If you support a thief, you are no better. You were not at the scene, you do not know what your "good buddy" friend did when he was confronted by the homeowner. But, at a bare minimum, he was trespassing. It was reported that he was breaking into a vehicle and the police have evidence to that effect. It was also reported that he had a cyclinder block in his hands that he raised over his head as he charged the homeowner. Then he was shot, as was completely warranted. The good people of this world are fed up with criminal lowlifes robbing them or worse. It is refreshing to see the people standing up to the criminals.

What a joke, this comment board. I posted two times earlier between 6-7PM and they were not posted. Communist censors don't want to hear the truth about personal protection, and the laws of what is and isn't murder. WSAZ is a bunch of sensationalist frauds, that only want to keep the liberal, bleeding hearts posting on here. What a joke. Oh, I included my email with this one, in case you need it

These people who steal and then sell your stuff deserve to be stopped. I talked to a lady at Marion smith clinic that had bought some of my moms stolen stuff and laughed about it. Talk about mad. So they all need to stop thats why the new law came into effect. People who steal need to be stopped. And people who buy stolen stuff need to be stopped. So even if it was a 10 dollar radio then so be it he didnt think of his own life more than that or he would not have been there.

Man Shot: Just to inform all of you that put input in here that don't know exactly what is going on around. I live in Jackson County. We have been robbed 3 times. They have entered our home. Relatives of the victim live close by. The man that was shot visits them frequently. I traced our stolen items to this person. He is definately a drug attack. He has the trace marks to prove that. You can never tell what people like that are capable of. Do you have daughters? See my point? NOW, Do you shoot or wait to see what just might happen next. I would gladly shake the shooters hand. He was in the right 110%. Protect you own and do what you have to do. Put yourself in our shoes around here.

agian,i have to say that if someone was in one of our vehicles and they didnt belong there.. i doubt we would call the police either, they would be confronted!! who wouldnt... then things turn bad and look who has to defend themselves the home owner again, now his life and whomevers is in the house!! who is to say if the criminal wasnt confronted about the car that their house wouldnt be next!! i agree its not right to lose your life over stealing something from someone else BUT thats the CRIMINALS consequences to doing the "deed" and taking a chance of taking something from someone else that wasnt theirs to being with !! i pray for both sides..

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 27, 2008 at 07:55 PM
He might not have been a HORRIBLE person and he might not have DESERVED to die...but you know that's a possible consequence when you attempt to steal from someone and attack them. If he was peacefully passing through, what is it that woke up the man who shot him? If he's "no criminal" then why does he had a past record of theft?

how can someone break into a car 75 feet away where he was shot . so u tell me i kill someone and say it was self defense i can get by with it . cool do they have any finger prints on the car of timmy ?oh wht that guy say u know he going to say that kep his self out of jail i still that he should spend time be hind bars ... no mother or sister or brother or anuts or dad or any one should lose a love of over stupied stuff like that the who shot timmy could have called the cops and told the who it was . u didnt have to shot 11 time at him . that wht 911 is for

My thoughts and Prayers to both familys. Now if he was on his way home he made the mistake of entering anothers domain at 4AM.Not that it was right for him to be shot but a Man has to protect his family and property. It sounds as though he had an extended family there Wife Kids Grandkids. He was protecting alot more than a piece of property.

I can't say that I wouldn't have done the same thing. Not one person in their right mind would want to shoot and kill someone, but sometimes you don't have a choice. It would be hard to live with. I feel for both families. One was trying to protect his family, and one family has a loss. NO ONE WINS!!!

Reese should be blamed for making him a victim of crime, the only difference is that Reese has again mamaged to escape the failed US court system. at least we the honest taxpayers don't have to pay for him anymore. Not like Reese was ever goining to become a productive member of society.

Where i come from there was an old lady kept calling the police and they said til something was damaged they could not do anything, She was found with her throat slit. So at 4 in the morning shoot them down.

This was not about someone breaking into MY CAR. I was staying with my sister the night this happened. I was there for a 2 year olds birthday party not hopping to get someone killed that night. I am a nurse I live to help people and get them well not so they can die. I tried to help the young man AFTER we found him but it had been to long and he was already gone. My heart hurts for his family and I am sorry for there loss. However he was attemping to come at my dad with a block that by the way he dropped after being shot at at the end of the bridge before running down the drive. Nobody wins here. I hope and pray that everyone will just learn from this. My sister nd here husband are desent people and are just tring to make a life for themselfs like most people. If there was two of them then the other one with him is the one that needs to be held respnsable and come forth the a man and admit his wrong.

it doesnt matter if the car was a total junker..it wasnt the boys to be breaking into..i think all of you who are being so critical should maybe put yourself in the shooters shoes..how would you feel at 4am to walk out and find a stranger breaking into your property and possibly threatening you and your family?? these people will never learn that there are consequences if they arent caught and with the judicial system the way it is there will never be any justice. just remember to raise your kids right and you will never have to worry about being in the same situation as the family of the Reese boy. and i dont believe that it was in "cold blood" as some of you say..it was not premeditated and there was no intent to kill... like i said i think all of you would be reacting differently if you were the victim here..so judge and be judged...

All of our kids have done things or been in places that weren't the best for them. All of our kids have had minor incidents. Some kids pay with their lives I suppose. This is horrible. A car for a life (if this is the truth). Seems like there are doubters to this story.

His family is in loss and you people have these rude comments. If it was one of your family members you all would feel the same. From what I gathered he wasn't nowhere near the car. He was close to the highway when his body was found and he died instantly. The person who killed him wasn't even the one who lived at the resdient he was just visiting. People need to know the whole story before they give rude comments.

I bet the THIEF will never try to commit GRAND THEFT AUTO again. Oh wait. It's already game over for him. My thought go with the home owner & prayers go with the homeowner. As for the THIEF, God judges you not me but the 10 Commandments tell me what your fate is.

Posted by: ONE OF THE VICTIMS on Oct 27, 2008 at 02:51 PM
You know all of you were not there! Timothy Reese was not just crossing at the road at the head of the drive. Like the family members would like you to believe. That is just where he had ran to from the house is over a football field up the drive that is where he started and after the altercation that is just where he ran to! so i can see how the family would think that he was shot down at the head of the drive since it is close to where they crossed the drive to go to and from other houses but you also have to know most of the drive is surrounded by underbrush and thicket about 6 foot tall and trees & sapplings. my sister inlaw is right the only easy way in is down the drive it would be almost impossible to get in any other way! He was just found down there. like i have said before HE WAS ONLY SHOT ONE TIME IN THE LEG that is what we have been told. My father inlaw was'nt trying to kill anyone. But when thing like this happen sometime people die. so try to raise your children right.

This man is lucky to have caught the guy in the act. I would give anything to kill the guy(s) and/or girl(s) who stole my El Camino about 5-6 years ago. I absolutely hate thieves. I think we should at least go back to cutting their hands off if they're convicted.

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 27, 2008 at 01:43 PM
in the same situation i would just stay inside my locked house and call for the police. nothing i own is worth taking a life. you cannot put a price on someone's life. i realize also the victim in this thought he could scare the boy away but people sometimes don't react how you think they will. this is very sad on both sides. my heart goes out to both families.

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 27, 2008 at 01:32 PM
I do feel sorry for the family of the victim. Given the circumstances I do not at all blame the shooter. Its easier and safer to GET A JOB rather than to go around taking someone else's property. He paid the price for his actions.

Posted by: Defend Him on Oct 27, 2008 at 01:29 PM
Honest, hard-working citizens are fed up with idiots stealing what they have earned. This boy got caught stealing and and then paid the price when he got caught. The cops would have slapped the boy on the hand and told him not to do it again. This man did the right thing and therefore one less dope dealing, smokin thug on the street!!

How is it self defense if Timmy was standing 250 ft away from the shooter? How is it that he was running, if the gun shot wound was in his stomach? To me, it sounds like he was facing them whenever they shot him. Someone needs to do some serious investigating, because if half of you people leaving comments knew him like people like I do, then you would most likely understand a little better. It is a law that you can fire one shot into the air to frighten a trespasser, but to just start randomly firing gunshots isn't fair. People need to get their stories straight before they start making assumptions.

Posted by: South Webster Citizen on Oct 27, 2008 at 12:31 PM
Well some people don't even know half of the story all except what you've read on here! If you actually knew him you definetly would not be writing half of this stuff about him! He was on his way home to his daughter lindsey which is 3 years of age.....although she is not his child but his ex girlfriends child with timothy's best friend. When the people that was living in the house stepped outside they seen timmy, and shot at him...they were all drunk and they couldn't have been trying to scare him otherwise they would've pointed the gun upward and then fired the shot! But No they pointed the gun right at him and shot him in the stomach.....he dropped within seconds, he didn't have a weapon or a brick or whatever they said that he threatened them with he didn't. If he had in fact had a weapon trying to threaten them with it before they took action then, the weapon that timmy supposedly had would've been laying next to his body when the police found him there!!!!!

Posted by: Iknowdoyou on Oct 27, 2008 at 12:30 PM
It is a shame the world is in such a shape, that people have to steal and people have to kill over a $10 cd or a radio. Did the boy really have a brick and going to hit the so called victim , did the police find the boys weapon . or was the victim and his buddies out drinking all night and took target practice.

Posted by: becki on Oct 27, 2008 at 12:28 PM
I know the victim, and he would not hurt anybody unless it was a good reason. I would have done the same thing. There were little kids in the house he was protecting, and if I thought for one second you may danger my kids I would have no problem shooting you. Let this be a lesson to all the people who think you can take what ever you want. Hard working people are sick of this, and we will fight back. I am sorry to the family of the boy, but if it was me I would have done the same thing.

I don't think that anyone should be stealing but I also don't think that Tim deserved to be murdered. I think that there is more to the story and everything just doesn't add up. There are so many different stories going around and I think that they need to investigate more to figure out the truth. I think that the shooter or shooters should get something out of it because it shouldn't be okay for someone to be shot for "breaking into a car".

The article stated what the Sheriff reported,( which must be what the RESIDENT THOUGHT and said to him )that he caught the guy "ATTEMPTING" to break into a car! Honestly....I don't think we have the whole story. I live 3 flipping minutes from Timmy and went to school with him. He may not be the model citizen but he didn't deserve to die. And another thing. He wasn't breaking into a freaking car, they said he had a brick and no brick was found at the scene, nor any other objects to break in and he was at least 250 freaking feet away from his shooter....so how the hell could it be self defense. It's not like he could've hit them. Plus they tried to claim he was running when they shot him and honestly he was found lying on his back...think about it. You can't be running and get shot and avoid ending up on your face. Jesus, you people are monsters. And yes I posted my name because I beleive in what I say.

Just to set the record straight i am the one that owned the car he was breaking in to their is damage to the passenger rear door and window of the car where he had done some prying on the trim and marks where he had too a piece of a cynder block and tryed to break the saftey glass windows those noises are what woke my mother inlaw with whom was very afraid because the car was parked close to their camper and she woke my father in law as with any pertective instint to pertect you self first. He did grab his gun i would have done the same! He steped out the camper in his underware bare footed to confront this man in the dark at approx 4:00 in the morning and Timothy L Reese charged him with the cynder block in his hand. What would you do! I would not let some one bash my brains out with a cynder block. I know i woke to the gun fire. And i grabed the shot gun myself i didnt know what was going on. Just so everyone knows Timothy was only shot once and in the leg that is what we were told.

I live in South Webster, and it is a very rural community a lot of house's are off the main roads, mine included, and in the last few months more and more homes are being broken into, and the sheriff is a long way away. We should be able to protect our families, homes, property. We work hard for everything we have, It makes me sick to think that some punk can come and take it. He should not have charged the homeowner but he did, because it was an old man. It sad the kid had to die, but he shouldn't have been stealing, or threating the man's safety. If it's between my family and a theif my family wins everytime. Maybe the criminals in South Webster will stop this crime spree they've been on recently because they realize people are going to start fighting back.

Posted by: Anon. on Oct 27, 2008 at 10:48 AM
It's funny how some of you are crying "murder this, murder that." It wasn't murder by no means. In order for there to be "murder" there has to be premeditation (planning). I'm sure the property owner didn't plan for this thug to try to break into his car and then charge him. The kid could have been charging with a knife or other weapon. We don't know. But the property owner did what was in his and his family's best interests. He shot the kid in self-defense or so the story goes. That, my friends, is definitely not murder! I feel for the family of this boy. But you have to understand. Around these parts, there is so much stealing. We have to protect our processions. If the police won't do it somebody has too. I don't know if I would kill somebody over my materials things, but I know poeple around here are tired of people stealing from them.

GOOD ! bank tellers and convenience store clerks should be armed too.. more incidents like this and maybe these punks would think twice before they violated someone..

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 27, 2008 at 09:53 AM
the police can only do so much, and the court system would let him walk anyway. this might deter more punks from breaking in to places.

I'd be interested in knowing how many of you would call for the death of a teenager over theft of a car if the dead teenager was your family or your child. With this kind of justice, no one should feel safe. I could be walking down the street and be shot due to someone's allegations that I was trying to steal their car. There had better be evidence of attempted theft. If not, I hope the shooter goes to prison. This is ridiculous! Our culture pretends to cherish life at all costs, but yet cheers on vigilantism. These comments remind me of the spectacles with public hangings. Also similar to Roman times with criminals fighting for their lives against hungry lions. I believe tickets could be sold for events such as this for very high prices considering some of the comments below. The fear threshold has reached so high we believe that not only is it okay, but it is to be celebrated when a person is gunned down in cold blood. Most of you probably consider yourselves Christians, right?

Posted by: property owner on Oct 27, 2008 at 09:30 AM
i have to say that if someone was in one of our vehicles and they didnt belong there.. i doubt we would call the police either, they would be confronted!! who wouldnt... then things turn bad and look who has to defend themselves the home owner again, now his life and whomevers is in the house!! who is to say if the criminal wasnt confronted about the car that their house wouldnt be next!! i agree its not right to lose your life over stealing something from someone else BUT thats the CRIMINALS consequences to doing the "deed" and taking a chance of taking something from someone else that wasnt theirs to being with !! i pray for both sides..

Are you a idiot? If someone is fighting you are you going to think about there family? No your going to think about yourself and your family! More than likely the police would have took a half a hour to get there and they can only say...we will try to find your car! And stop throwing that Christian stuff into this. Your no Christian for leaving that dumb comment!!

The one person says he was not a criminal yet in the same breath says he was breaking into a car...cmon!! This man that shot him probably feels horrible over what happened. Yet he was defending himself. Noone knows what they would do if put in that situation until they themselves are put there. So until you judgemental people can walk a mile in someones shoes..just shut up.

oh my god are you even listening to what you're saying? What if you were just walking home and some guy steps outside to "try to scare" you apparently thats what he said he was trying to do to timmy, but obviously not if he was trying to scare him he could've shot in the air not straight at him! I was one of timmy's good friends he should not have lost his life just because he wanted to take a short cut home....and if he in fact was trying to break in their car why was he shot 50 yards away from their vehicles??? Somebody did this deliberately and there was no reason for it, And further more if he was facing the vehicle he would have got shot in the back, but he got shot in the stomach and that could only mean that he was facing the shooter at the time!

I commend this victim for standing up and protecting his family. I hate that someone had to die but honest, hardworking people need to start defending ourselves, our belongings and our families. This man was even disabled (as was stated earlier by a family member). If the boy had been arrested, think of all the money the taxpayers would have wasted on him. My husband carries a concealed weapon everywhere he's allowed. We're ready for criminals and we look like a sweet innocent couple that wouldn't even touch a gun. Everyone needs to arm themselves and then hopefully McCain will win so we can use them.

Posted by: Amanda on Oct 27, 2008 at 08:42 AM
I knew that guy who was shot. I know that he WAS NOT breaking into a car. It was a mistake and he was known to have been with another person during the event. The guy he was with, was the one who was breaking into the car. I assume that the shooting was not intended for Timmy. They say that it was self defense, but how can it be self defense if they are standing 250 ft from one another? I knew Timmy fairly well and enough to know that that is not something he would do. They also say that he had a brick in his hand, but yet whenever they found his body, there wasn't a single brick around. How is this fair? Being shot for a crime that you did not committ is not something that someone should deserve. I believe that something has to be done and I know that there is more to this than people are letting on.

The castle doctrine says force can be used when someone enters an occupied residence or occupied vehicle I don't think this was the case. I guess some people think you should be able to shoot a kid for stealing bubble gum. I am a hunter and gun owner and unless someone is coming in on you or your family you should not be able to use deadly force against them. The police can't.

I am sorry for the family of the man that lost his life. I will also pray for the family and the man that had no other choice but to protect his family and property. I am sure they are having a difficult time dealing with this too. I would not think twice about shooting someone that was trying to break in especially if my family was in danger in anyway. I don't think he did anything wrong firing at the 21 year old. He shouldn't have been on his property.

Melisha! Melisha! Melisha! I agree with others that instincts will kick in. If you think that it is okay for someone to steal from other then you are surely the stupid one. People must to work hard to get what they have and to have others take it or attempt to take it is a bad thing. If you think its not then maybe you can give thieves you address and let them come take what does not belong to them but to you.

I will say it again as I did in my first post...KUDOS to the man that defended his property! And i KNOW that everyone on here is gonna defend the criminal, but BEFORE you do go get a Scioto County Ohio map and you will see that geographically if there was NOT a deputy in the area, then the Sheriff's Department is approximately 45 minutes to an hour away from the Scioto/Jackson County line. And I personally would not want to struggle with a thief for an hour if my life or my family's life depended on it. Often times bleeding hearts are quick to judge, but consider the circumstances once in awhile. I know Marty and his staff will do what is right in the investigation. Matt

Posted by: Ron on Oct 27, 2008 at 06:22 AM
hold everything Ms. BETHANY, I agreed with you this boy didn't have to loose his life, and nobody does, whether you are the thief or victim. read the story, SELF DEFENSE, as far as a Christian taking another life, I think different, I don't resort to violence or am I violent, I've been a Christian since I was 12, which is most of my life, and I for one would blow anyone's head off that would try to hurt my family or me, I don't care the size, color, national origin or religion, I have as many others have a God given right to protect what is mine.

Posted by: Rob on Oct 27, 2008 at 06:18 AM
Funny how all the friends want to make the criminal a saint. The boy was on somebody's property and he was breaking into a car. Fact. We don't know what happened or what was said, but the property owner was felt threatened enough to shoot. Fact. My opinion is based on thses facts, and I say while it is a shame the boy chose this path, he had to face the consequences of his actions. A life of crime can get you killed. He made a choice to break into that car. His family and friends need to look at their their own lives if they think that was a positive choice to make and the victim is at fault.

Posted by: Concerned on Oct 27, 2008 at 01:57 AM
Breaking into a car is not enough of a reason to kill someone in my opinion. If it was self defense, it is acceptable. I would just not like this glorified too much though. Taking a life changes many lives in the process...including your own. Only use potentially deadly force if ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. It shouldn't be acceptable to people for others to just go around shooting people.

Posted by: Laura on Oct 27, 2008 at 12:49 AM
"Melisha," were you there when it happened? I didn't think so. If a person is on another person's property without the consent of the owner the owner has the right to defend himself if he feels he is in danger. Did you read the part about there being a confrontation? That means that the man probably said something like, "hey, get off of my property!" and the other man (the one who was illegally on the property and trying to break into the man's car) either said something threatening, or made a threatening gesture or even attempted to physically harm the owner in some way. The property owner was absolutely within his rights, and the man who was attempting to break into someone else's property was CLEARLY in the wrong and put HIMSELF in harms way by trying to steal from someone else. The moral of the story, if you don't want to get hurt or even killed, STAY OFF OF OTHER PEOPLE'S PROPERTY. If the man who had been shot had been a member of my family, I would still feel the same way.

Let me ask you people something you go out and work hard for everything you own right? I think that if i am in bed and i here something in the middle of the night and i find someone tring to break into my home or my car and take something that is not theirs and i confront that person and he has a weapon of any kind i am going to shoot first and ask questions later especialy in the middle of the night you dont know if that person is alone or if someone else is with them! yes it is a very sorrowful thing to loose a loved one even if it is someone who does not have the right to be doing what he is doing. But you also have to consider the family that has to defend them selves. I do not beleive for a moment that that young man would have left home to do what he was doing if he thought for a moment that it would be his last time. I do feel for both familys envolved and our prayers go out to both. I would defend my family even to the end. That is what this world has come to!

I was broke into a year ago and now move to another state and bought a new house and because a thief broke into my old garage, and i claimed it on insurance, now i cant get insurance because of one claim in 40 years. So hats off to the shooter. If we would have done that then we would have our stuff and insurance on the new place. We carry it for a reason and then still end up with a loss. So the only thing you can do is to protect your stuff. Believe me its the only thing the thief will understand. Like i said hats off to the shooter. I'll vote for you to....Mr. President. Great job. Just another day of true justice. If the courts won't do it then people should.

Having lived in Scioto County for more than 50 years. This shooting was no suprise to me. When people say that the police should be called, the problem is that the police wont respond, until somebody is shot. As for holding the young man till the police comes, that would only have put his family in more danger. I think the main reason the boy got shot was the lack of law enforcement in Scioto County. The townships that dont pay for additional police are put on the bottom of the list in responce time.

First off the Castel Doctrine only applies to dwellings. I wish it went further but it does not at this time. 2nd This person was caught breaking into a vehicle and it states an altercation then took place, meaning the guy had to fight off the offender. Also this person was breaking into a vehicle. I do believe he has either already or would have in the future break into a house. Its not like criminals have a code of ethics to go by in what to break into and not to break into. Things are steal are things to steal if they are in our out of a residence.

Teachers, Preachers, People in Public Offices, who work and runs the STATE and TOWNS etc., Parents, Teens,Kids. Which ones are the NICE PEOPLE? All,One,or Some of them? Everyone that knows one of these thieves who is their good friends or family most likely will say they are WONDERFUL People or make EXCUSES for why they Commited the CRIME! On the other hand people who don't know them most likely will say they are BAD People,Liars, and Crooks etc.! Can you PICK or CHOOSE the one that should be KILLED for ATTEMPTING TO STEAL,or STEALING? THIS ARTICLE did say:( A MAN ATTEMPTING )TO BREAK IN A CAR WAS SHOT and KILLED! Did he Break INTO or STEAL ANYTHING? Did it happen this way? Was their a weapon? A DEAD man can't talk!

I truly feel for the shooting victim's family AND for the man who shot him. Both will probably deal with this for a long time. However, had the justice system been doing their jobs for decades, this may not have happened. A slap on the wrist is NOT a deterent to crime, so if that is the only consequence, stealing looks alot more appealing. BUT the prison system was NOT designed to be for rehabilitation! It was designed for punishment, and punishment alone. If sone correctly, the criminal sentenced to prison would NEVER want to go back, and those tempted to break the law would seriously think about the consequences. Now we are at a point that the consequences are: a slap on the wrist if your caught by the law, or a 1 in a million chance that the person you rob, rape, or try to kill is armed and will shoot you. Not a very good deterent either way. Either the courts get tougher, or we do! Right now, a criminal better think twice before testing the odds at my home, with my family.

Wow how heartbreaking. Its sad because we as people have a right to protect what is ours. It would have been nice if he could have just been shot on the knee. I truly hope this boy wasn't just on his way home and was really breaking into the car. It does open the door to legality if it can't be proven that he was breaking into the car and not just walking by it. My heart does go out the family. Our children make their own choices.

Melisha, this was not about someone dying over attempting to break into a car. If you READ the story, you will see that the burglar decided to fight with the man who came out to stop him. That fight resulted in the proper person getting killed, the burglar. The man defending his property was put in a situation by the burglar where he had to defend his life from the former burglar. You need to stop defending the criminals.

your post shows how stupid people can be... It wasn't his to attempt to take... It was someone elses. Read the earlier post from the owner of the property. The guy tried to attack him... I guess everyone forgot about the poor guy who was run over by theives in Huntington. Theives are criminals. The justice system isn't harsh enough. If all criminals were walking around wondering who might shoot them, many crimes would disappear.

Posted by: hardworker on Oct 26, 2008 at 09:52 PM
Melisha are you that stupid? Evedently you don't work hard just to have someone else to take it simply because they want it. Maybe you are a thief and just taking up for your friend. I have had a family member shot. He was trying to break into a house and was shot, he did live but I have to say that that was the right thing to do at the time. He agrees and has learned his lesson. Maybe this boys friends will take this as a lesson of their own.

It was very sad to hear this boy had to die over trying to break into a car its not like he was trying to break into their house all they had to do was call the police not everything had to resort in violence, if it was the other way around im sure they wouldn’t want a member of their family to die over attempting to break into a car. The hole concept is he attempted to break into this persons car but didn’t get inside so there was nothing stolen why would they shoot him when nothing was taken?? This boy didn't deserve to die he just needed help it just shows how heartless some people can be.

See this is why people shouldn't do bad things cause good people will have to shoot you down...*Sighs*

thats right they should have just held him till the cops got there not killed him. It is murder. Would you like if your child was killed instead of trying to just stop them and calling the cops.

These victims were not worried about possessions. They were worried about their family. When someone comes at you with a weapon, you cant call a "time out" for a phone call. He did the right thing by protecting his family first.

KUDOS to the man that defended his property! Matt

now watch the family of that guy sue that poor guy who was defending his property. That man got what he deserved, plain and simple.

I hate that the 21 year old had to die.... BUT.. that is the price you pay when you are that stupid.... Now if we had more instances of this, The world would be safer. Nobody wants to die for something that little that badly...

This the only way these worthless criminals will learn. Make being a thief a risky job. Make them wonder if this crime is worth loosing my life over.

Posted by: booger on Oct 26, 2008 at 04:17 PM
OH YEAH, i would like to give an open invitation to th victim to PLEASE move to huntington, we need more citizens like you. i guarantee you the thugs and street trash that prowl around all night will think twice about going down this guys street. to mr obvious dont you know its OBVIOUS that crooks are idiots, theres not alot they understand. i believe this guy should run for president, ill vote for him

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 26, 2008 at 04:12 PM
the car or anything in it was not worth taking someone's life. the victim should of just called the police. i do not know either party in this situation.

GET A JOB!!!! People work for a reason.......

Posted by: anon on Oct 26, 2008 at 04:01 PM
i agree i recently had over $20,000 worth of items stolen off of me and i would have prefered for the thief to have been shot but instead we are awaiting a postponed court date that the piece of you know what will prob only get a fine and probation.. What happens to the $20,000 worth of items that he took in for junk that my family woked hard to get.... nothing we lose all the way around .......

Once again, the best justice was given on that day. Taxpayers saved tons of money by keeping the criminal out of the penal system, man possessions were preserved, and his safety was up held by the very person that should up hold it, himself. Good Shooting! But by next week, Obama will make sure you have no guns! Way to take an advantage of time management

Posted by: Pam on Oct 26, 2008 at 03:42 PM
Thieves are usually people that you couldn't beat a days work out of. If they would get out and work like the rest of us then they wouldn't have time to get out and steal. I don't agree that the car or it's contents were worth a life but the person knew the risks before he engaged in criminal behavior. Probably wasn't his first time either.

Posted by: edward means on Oct 26, 2008 at 03:32 PM
what can ya expect i would probably shot the man to for such actions no one mess's with property that does not belong to them.

Posted by: MrObvious on Oct 26, 2008 at 03:19 PM
Breaking into peoples cars and then fighting with them after getting caught is a good way to get shot. Criminals need to understand this. All in all, an good ending to something that could have turned out much worse for the victim. (For all you criminal supporters, the victim was the man who was forced to defend his life.)

YES, this is what we need more of. Armed citizens who are alert and aware! Criminals need to have that fear put back into them. I am honestly happy that this happened, now, let's see some more armed citizens follow suit.
