Checks Delayed

A glitch in a new computer system is blamed for a delay in distribution of some 35-thousand child support checks for Kentucky families.

The state Treasury and the state Finance Cabinet are trying to find an answer to the problem quickly with state employees' paychecks due Friday.

Neither agency is guaranteeing delivery on time.

The delays began when the state began using a new, upgraded computer accounting system July first.

Some of the paper and direct-deposit child-support checks have been delivered and deposited on time but thousands have not.

Finance Cabinet spokeswoman Jill Midkiff says the problems also have affected an unknown number of checks for vendors and worker's compensation.
