Flood Clean-Up in Spring Valley

One of the worst hit areas from last week's flooding was Spring Valley.

The past four days has been a nightmare for homeowners who had to throw out their furniture, TV’s and other appliances.

These flood victims say the water has never risen as high as it did Thursday afternoon and they are pointing their fingers at the government for the flooding problems. They think this flash flood could have been prevented.

Elda Keefer and her neighbors are slowly getting back on their feet. Elda Keefer says, “It’s like being in a barn. We cleaned and cleaned.”

The Corps of Engineers recently completed their flood prevention project in Westmoreland. People in Spring Valley wonder when they will get help. Flood victims say the Corps piled dirt near their homes after building the new culvert on the Westmoreland side. Flood victims believe this contributed to the flash flood.

Dave Meadow says, “We didn't construct any drainage features on the Spring Valley side for any potential flooding.”

Red Cross has already helped out some of the families in Spring Valley with money and cleaning supplies. However, there is still quite a mess left for these families to clean-up.

The worst things about the flood clean-up is the health hazards and of course, the smell.
