We like to think police can protect us in our homes and in our towns. But some people in one part of Kanawha County say they've virtually given up on that idea.

They say drug users and dealers are running rampant in Amandaville, near St. Albans and violence has followed. Just about a month ago five people were shot and three of them died. State police say the town now has their attention.

Because Amandaville doesn't have its own police department, state troopers are starting something new to try to get rid of the drug problem.

People there have to count on the sheriff's department and the state police to protect them.
Many say a lack of police presence is what's gotten them into this situation and now for the first time state police are assigning special patrols to focus on Amandaville.

Bill Holstein, an Amandaville resident says, “We had our troubles back in the old days with bootleggers but nothing compared to the drugs.”

Those drugs have led to unimaginable multiple murders. This town is ready for any action from law enforcement.

Sergeant C.A. Parsons, W.Va. State Police, explained, “The officers doing this won't be responsible for other areas of the county. They'll be specifically here. That way that area can get some targeted enforcement. We're trying to take Amandaville away from those drug addicts as a place where they can obtain those products.”

Janet Brightwell says, “It won't last. They'll have to make a good show for the rest of the time, not just a few days here and there.”

The triple murders were the final straw. State police now believe their increased presence will have an immediate impact.
