This heat wave isn't just uncomfortable, it can be deadly.

A man from Boone County is charged with leaving his dog to die in the scorching temperatures.

Boone County sheriff's deputies say Robert Dotson let one of his dogs die in the heat.

He was stuck under a fence trying to escape the yard.

Another dog was left covered in flies with open wounds.

It was also distressed by the heat.

Dotson is facing two counts of animal cruelty.

Boone County Sheriff Rodney Miller says this is a good reminder to keep your pets cool and well hydrated during this summer heat.
