Another mining accident has occurred in the state, on the same day as families of the 12 Sago miners who died on the job earlier this year are calling for safer mine practices.
Consol Energy spokesman Tom Hoffman says workers were removing a belt structure in a mined out section of the Blacksville Number Two mine when their cutting torches sparked a methane flash.
Hoffman says three men were injured at the Monongalia County mine, which splits the West Virginia-Pennsylvania border. Alan Johnson of Morgantown and Jason Sennett of Enterprise were taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. Both men were treated and released.
Brent Blake of New Martinsville was taken to a Pennsylvania hospital and admitted. Hoffman says he suffered some burns but was talking.
