Just because school's out for summer doesn't mean it's out for everyone. This is not a story about summer school for kids who didn't quite make the grade.

You'll find educators in school buildings right now who really want to be there.

I was talking to a friend of mine who's a teacher and mentioned that I needed to get in touch with the principal at Huntington High.

He said, "Just give him a call. He's up there everyday."

So I did. And he is. But he's not alone.

We go back to school for a mid-summer report on the folks who take advantage of a student free building.

During the summer months, Principal Greg Webb is just as likely to move a mound of dirt at Huntington High as he is push some papers.

Greg Webb said, "We're enrolling students, we have halls to maintain and to make sure we do maintenance to our gyms."

But the summertime work at Huntington High goes beyond maintenance.

Really, just everything being done in June, July and August all goes back to the teenagers who will roam these halls once again when the academic year begins.

The board of education asks high school counselors, like Jane Hastings, to clock in for 5 days over the summer. But Jane knows it takes more than that to keep up with all the letters and emails that keep coming in.

To tell you the truth, we were surprised to find this office open without students around looking for aspirin or just a chance to get out of gym class.

The principal says even though it's summer, and even though Huntington High is way up on a hill, above the community it's still a community center.

The school can actually host overnight guests, too. Church youth groups from Alabama and Georgia who were fixing up homes in Huntington slept and showered at Huntington High School.
