Men Found In Abandoned Mine

911 Dispatchers say that the two men who went missing inside an abandoned mine have been found. Dispatchers say Franklin Johnson and Glen Edelman, both of the Cedar Grove area, walked out of the mine late Monday night. The men were found by search crews around 9pm Monday night. Police say the pair had started a fire inside the mine, using the timber that once was the support beams for the mine. That fire is what helped rescuers find the missing men.

Family members haven't heard from the men since Saturday. Family members tell WSAZ that the pair went inside to look for scrap metal. State police say Johnson and Edelman were taken to the hospital, but both were able to walk out of the mines with the rescue teams. State Police also added that they plan on arresting the men and filing charges once they are released from the hospital.

Caryn Gresham, a spokeswoman for the state office of Miners' Health Safety and Training says the mine, which is owned by Massey Energy, is no longer in operation. It was formerly known as the Donaldson Number 15 Mine.

Attorneys for Massey Energy estimate that the men caused $20,000 in damage to the mine.
