Luther: You are being a jerk!! I think you make comments like that just to see how many feathers you can ruffle. Don't you have anything better to do with your morning? Maybe you should go out and check to see how may of the accidents this morning were due to women. NOT. It is people like you, who feel superior, that make the mistakes and cause others to get hurt. You feel like you do not wrong. How many children do you have? Don't know... but 2 or 3 of them are girls.

Posted by: Jennifer on Nov 19, 2008 at 11:56 PM
Oh and one more thing Luther, I hope you don't live anywhere near me because I'd hate to be out on the road with you, how much of a safe driver could you be, your not even sure how many kids you have according to your post on November 18th @ 7:47pm.

Posted by: Jennifer on Nov 19, 2008 at 08:46 PM
Hey Luther I don't know where you get your information but it is a known fact that men statistically have worse driving records than women hence the reason why men pay a higher insurance rate.

Posted by: Hank on Nov 19, 2008 at 02:35 PM
Heck yea Luther. That suffrage thing was a mistake also.

Posted by: jeremy on Nov 19, 2008 at 04:11 AM
a little tip, when snowing use caution and slow down. i know its difficult for you inexperianced drivers of wv but do it.

Posted by: SL on Nov 18, 2008 at 11:58 PM
One more thing, there are people swerving into the other lane because they are eating, chatting on the cell or heck even reading the paper. Why don't people realize these are heavy machines we are driving and with one screw up it could be the end for us or whoever we hit. Slow down, use signals, quit tailgating, pay attention, don't slow down too much cuz very slow drivers are just as bad as very fast drivers. Oh by the way, I was going extra slow because the snow last night..it was all over the road and it was slick, and this idiot came flying up behind me and passed me in a no passing zone. SLOW DOWN, it's snow and it's SLICK. I had my baby in the car so if that idiot would have hit me and we'd survived, I would have beat the heck out of him. 4wheel drive only does so good and I am sure a small car such as he was driving did not even have 4wd.

Posted by: SL on Nov 18, 2008 at 11:49 PM
Luther you are wrong and sexist. I have only had one accident and it was not my fault, it was a male doctor on the cell phone switching lanes and not paying attention. You are right on the point of people need to pay attention though. I think that everytime someone goes to get their license renewed they need to do their drivers test over again. I drive an hour to work and have to keep alert or else. There are people pulling off without putting on their signal, or the good ol last minute signal, or even better switch lanes and get in the turning lane THEN when everyone already knows they are turning they put on their signal. Then there's those who tailgate the hell out of people. I mean seriously, do u think that keeping closer is going to get you there faster? There's idiots that pass people on curves. What's everyone's hurry anyway. I hate being late to work also, but wouldn't u rather be late then dead? 90% of the people doing these things are on their cell.

To Luther: That study was based on policyholder information for auto insurers from 2007 how is that an opinion? Here are a couple more articles in case you still need a laugh: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16698153/ http://www.insurance.com/article.aspx/Are_Men_Better_Drivers_Than_Women/artid/259

Posted by: Luther on Nov 18, 2008 at 07:55 PM
To Melissa @ 12:18 PM today: I opened the link and read the report that you posted, and I should thank you...as it was a good read. I appreciate this country and the freedoms of press and speech that we are given. But, I have to point out a few things in this article that just SCREAM out to me as bogus. 1st, this report is coming from San Francisco, Commi-Fornia. That immediately invalidates anything that it shows. But, going on...2nd, in the 5th paragraph Dr. Raj Bhat bases his study on opinion. Science is based on fact, not opinion. This would be similiar to saying that "Because women are incapable of working as hard as men, they do not burn as many calories, which results in women becoming heavier and more out of shape than men." True or not, this is a statement based on opinion, and cannot be a scientifically proven study. Melissa, I do appreciate the read, I owe you for the good laugh.

Sue, Miranda, Melissa, Amy...I see comments from each of you about how you believe women to be better drivers than men and so forth. I am hopeful that the 4 of you are good, safe drivers...however it is highly unlikely. And Sue, you mention that 'every accident i've been in...', I honestly don't think you are making the point that are trying to make. I know it ruffles a few feathers around the 'hen house' when I mention about the male's superior ability...read my first post, I flat out said it, but the truth is the truth. Again, I hope that you all speak the truth and that things are changing, because I have several children and I fear for their safety. 2 or 3 of 'em are girls, one day they'll learn to drive, and I DEFINITELY don't want their mother's teaching them.

Posted by: EVERY YEAR on Nov 18, 2008 at 05:58 PM
It happens every year first snow,SLOW DOWN IDIOTS.

Posted by: Taylor on Nov 18, 2008 at 03:56 PM
No one was hurt in the school bus crash, because I was on it. A car came across the median and it was the one that got messed up pretty badly. We just had fun because we got to go to school half an hour late.

Posted by: Amy on Nov 18, 2008 at 02:44 PM
Oh and Luther, I'm an insurance agent, I'll bet you dollars to donuts that I have more men calling in claims than women. How very sexist of you to claim women have more accidents because we're putting on makeup and fixing our hair. I'll bet your mother's very proud of you!

Posted by: Amy on Nov 18, 2008 at 02:40 PM
I swear, some people forget how to drive between winters. Those of us that have lived in WV all our lives know to slow down and take it easy. I used to drive 45 miles one way in snow and it just amazed me how many people fly down the interstate, you come around a turn and they're in the median. Use some common sense people!

Posted by: Krissy on Nov 18, 2008 at 01:33 PM
The roads will be alot slicker this winter. Our great governor, decided WV didn't need any salt to keep our roads clear. He didn't want to spend the money on the salt. But then turns around and sells thousands of dollars in DOH equipment and loaned the money to his buddies. The roads are being treated with wood chips.Joe manchin, you are a real loser.Don't you care about the safety of the WV citizens on these snowy days? No,sure you don't.All you care about is yourself. You are such an embarressment to this state.

Posted by: Luther on Nov 18, 2008 at 01:13 PM
To OHIO DRIVER...it's not us, check the license plates and I will guarantee that more-times-than-not it's a Kentucky Driver.

Posted by: Miranda on Nov 18, 2008 at 01:12 PM
Hey Luther..that's just disgusting. Go crawl back in your cave. WSAZ that comment needs removed. It's offensive in the extreme.

Posted by: Snow on Nov 18, 2008 at 12:53 PM
Well, it is true that people won't slow down when the roads are slick. They drive like they are as dry as a bone. However, we also live in the hills. There are a lot of rural areas with winding roads that are very dangerous. Some of those roads don't even have guardrails and there are school buses traveling those roads. Up north, there are no hills and mountains to have to contend with.

Posted by: Melissa on Nov 18, 2008 at 12:18 PM
To Luther, you are actually dead wrong about women drivers being bad drivers and here is a study to prove it: http://www.upi.com/Top_News/2008/11/16/Study_shows_men_riskier_drivers_than_women/UPI-65421226881301/

to debbie stop with the name calling unless you want the same done to you. RALIEGH COUNTY WAS AWFUL WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS I REPORTED A WRECK THE COPS ASKED WHO ITHE CALLER WAS AND THE DARN DISPATCHER SAID I DUNNO, I TOLD HIM MY NAME AND MY NUMBER, NOT ONE SALT TRUCK WAS SEEN, THE INTERSTATE WAS AWFUL AND THE MAIN ROADS WERE A WRECK. DO THESE PEOPLE KNOW WHEN THE WHITE STUFF FALLS YOU ARE SUPPOSE TO BE OUT, THEY WAIT TIL THERE IS A WRECK OR THE COPS DISPATCH THEM TO DO SOMETHING, THIS IS NUTS. THEIR NEEDS TO BE A STORY ON WHERE THEY ARE AT NIGHT EVEN YOUR PRIVATE COMPANIES ARE OUT CLEANING THE LOTS THEY GET PAID FOR AND HERE THEIR PAID FOR BY THE STATE AND DON'T CLEAN THE ROADS UNTIL THE SUN IS OUT AND IT HAS EITHER MELTED OR YOU SHOVELED IT. "WHEN ITS TOO LATE".

Posted by: SUE on Nov 18, 2008 at 11:32 AM
Hey Luther, ha, I know some women that cna outdrive a man any day of the week, in the rain, snow, or plain dry blacktop! YOu must be one of those "women haters" Every accident I have been in, a guy has hit me....so explain that one there smart guy!

Posted by: Ann on Nov 18, 2008 at 11:28 AM
The DOH website is pathetic. It hasn't been updated since 8am. My husband has been sitting in traffic on I-79 after the Big Otter Exit and before the Rt. 19S Exit since 9:30am. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

Posted by: Debbie on Nov 18, 2008 at 11:21 AM
And to the person who signed to Amanda at 10:44, in case you've never been thru Charleston, it's all bridge moron.

Posted by: Anonymous on Nov 18, 2008 at 11:20 AM
Not weather related but on Rt 60 in Ona this morning saw a deer crash into the side of a car going thru passenger side window and striking the passenger. Kind a freaky.

Posted by: Debbie on Nov 18, 2008 at 11:18 AM
Ohio driver, that was certainly not the problem this morning. It's idiots like you who drive too fast for conditions and don't heed the bridges freeze first warning.

Posted by: ohio driver on Nov 18, 2008 at 11:04 AM
Part of our trouble is you guys hanging in the left lane doing 50.........

Posted by: Luther on Nov 18, 2008 at 10:51 AM
NoBrainer nailed it on the head...if people would just concentrate on driving, there'd be much less accidents. Anyone ever notice the direct relation between women drivers and senseless wrecks? Someone once mentioned that the WV Drivers exam should be changed, one test for male drivers and another for female. It always upsets people, but it's true and would actually help our state and high insurance prices.

Posted by: TO AMANDA on Nov 18, 2008 at 10:44 AM
I AGREE. I LIVE IN OHIO AND GET WV CHANNELS ON TV. HOWEVER I DONT THINK IT IS THE SNOW. THERE IS ALWAYS CRASHES IN CHARLESTON. WHATS UP WITH THAT.TO WEST VIRGINIANS. IM NOT MAKING FUN OF YOU PERSONALLY I JUST THINK THEY NEED TO REDUCE THE SPEED ON 64. ITS VERY CONGESTED AND APPARENTLY THERE ARE ALOT OF IDIOTS WHO DONT UNDERSTAND THAT IT IS NOT A SUPER SPEEDWAY.

Posted by: Hmmmm on Nov 18, 2008 at 10:34 AM
Don't put them on the bus....keep them home if you really feel your children are in danger...Take them when you feel it is safe. One day will not make or break them.

Posted by: Heather on Nov 18, 2008 at 10:31 AM
To Amanda....I don't know where you are at, but most counties North of Kanawha did not have school. I have family in Preston and Mon Counties and they did not have school today. People around here don't know how to drive in it, because they never had too. People up north, it's just a way of life.

Posted by: NoBrainer on Nov 18, 2008 at 10:30 AM
Leave early, slow down, hang up the cell phone, leave that cup of coffee at home, fix your hair before you leave and put the mascara back in your purse. Simple enough?

Posted by: parent on Nov 18, 2008 at 10:01 AM
I think Kanawha county schools should have been on a 2 hour delay.... Kanawha county school is not just in Charleston. Where I live I had about 3 inches of snow and the roads for awful... I'd rather have a 2 hour delay then kids getting hurt going to school......

Posted by: Amanda on Nov 18, 2008 at 08:54 AM
It's pretty sad that we get 1/4 inch of snow and no one can drive but 100-150 miles North of here they don't cancel school or have trouble driving in a foot of snow...why is that?

Posted by: No Win on Nov 18, 2008 at 08:28 AM
The school system is in a no win situation. If they don't have school the parents are upset because now THEY have to make arrangements or take care of THEIR children, however, if they do have it then the school system is putting THEIR children in harms way. But I will agree, where are the salt trucks....

Posted by: Dave on Nov 18, 2008 at 08:27 AM
Its not that bad out there if people would just slow down! they think they can still drive 80 when it has just snowed.

Posted by: Jenn on Nov 18, 2008 at 08:24 AM
Salt trucks will not be out unless the weather in extremely bad. All of the states are really low on salt and are trying to conserve.

Posted by: Anonymous on Nov 18, 2008 at 08:09 AM
so why does kanawha county have schools?? i mean look at all these accidents. there was on infront of overbrook this morning too, traffic was backed up for a very long time.

Posted by: Just Me on Nov 18, 2008 at 07:48 AM
Why are there children going to school with ice on the roads and where are the salt trucks?

Posted by: Chris on Nov 18, 2008 at 07:15 AM
Guess what? It snowed and its cold!! That means slow down IDIOTS!
