After years of controversy the Lincoln County High School is finally built.
Now with the new school, a new football team is under construction. The school is a consolidation of Harts, Duvall, Guyan Valley and Hamlin High Schools.
This is the very first football practice where four rivals are joining forces. First time in history, and it's the biggest thing to happen to Lincoln County.
It's a pep talk for a group of former rivals, before their first football practice, before the school year starts at their new school.
They're the new Lincoln County Panthers taking the field for the first time. They were bitter rivals, we're talking civil war.
Team member Chubby Nelson says, “At first I didn't like it. Now it's alright, I just want to win.”
Brianna Enochs is one of the team managers, who says, “the gelling of these athletes from different communities can only set a good example for the rest of the county.”
Coach Shimp says “He has faith the panthers will claw their way through a successful season.”
One thing Lincoln County kids have, they're tougher than pine knots and don't quit.
The Panthers’ first scrimmage is Monday August 14 against Buffalo Wayne.
